News: Future events on the Central
It has come to the staff's attention that as the C3s have continued on, they've become less and less special. We believe this is because twice a year is a little excessive (and our gimmicks during these events might be a little .. you know .. distracting). In order to return some of the appeal to it, we are going to make it an annual event rather than biannual. At this time, I'd also like to list some other annual events which have been made official (though we may include more at random. You know how this site is with random events!)

-C3 will be held every Spring.
-Mosts will be held every Autumn.
-The VLDC (Vanilla Level Design Contest) will remain unchanged, and will be held in February.

I'm also planning on holding a sort of special hacking event in the summer, though I won't reveal any details on it just yet. Needless to say, I'm sure people will enjoy it.

That's all for now.

To address some questions that were asked:

-The choco contest will most likely remain in the autumn as well.
-SMWC Idol .. well, if we do it again, it'll have to span less time than it did before (5-6 months or whatever was too long).
-The WLDC was really a one-time thing for real prizes, so yeah.

There should be an event where you must make something completely unrelated to hacking SMW, just to keep people on their toes.

I don't know what to say.

On the one hand, I'll probably forget that C3 even exists.

On the other hand, did you see how badly my last C3 exhibit was criticized!?! Maybe holding C3 once a year will help cut down on that by giving me time to make better stuff! :P

Mixed blessing is mixed. And a blessing in disguise! |-O

Hey, do any of you remember when we used to have Member/Staff of the Month?

Because I sure don't.

@Riolu180
Its not that it was short, but there was too many distractions that people had less time too focus on the actual C3 itself. Only those that really didn't care about eshroom and all that and actually spent those two days checking out all the new things.

To compare it to E3 since its so similar, imagine there would be an ultimate video game tournament that last until E3 ends and involves competitive games(Brawl,COD, etc) you'll end up with the interested people that will focus only on the tournament and not on the main idea behind E3. Then they complain that they didn't have time for E3 and then complain that it was too short.

Riolu180-...

Then people like me would have much, much, much less time to be here for it if it was only on the weekdays. D:

I'd prefer a contest that isn't about level design. Where's the ASM contests?

I have a question regarding the C3, then. Will it get extended past the usual two days? This year, I heard a few people lament that it was so short, thus why not as special. Perhaps it would be nice to do it for a whole week next year, starting on Monday, ending on Friday. (Or maybe the actual full week...) Just an idea.

You should do a second Winter Level Design contest, not with real prizes but it was great.

I liked the idea of two C3's. Then again having one will make there be more appeal as there is a longer wait to see what people have got to show. Plus side I get longer to work on S"M"W2! :D

Well, that should give me plenty of time to finish "A Vanilla Journey."

Actually, both biannual and semiannual mean twice a year. Confusing

also who what this was very unexpected

No, that would be semiannual.

I've been here for about two weeks, so I don't really have an opinion on this.

Aw...I was hoping there would be another WLDC...I missed it because when I signed up, it was ending...Too bad there won't be a fall C3...I guess that means I'd better make sure my C3 project is twice as good...

We should only have a vanilla contest, and a chocolate contest. No seasonal holiday contests, because everyone just crams to make those things; and they are always overly festive and not too enjoyable anyway.

Well...one C3 a year is a little disappointing; that's going to be a long time to wait for my biannual opportunity-to-show-off-stuff-that-wouldn't-get-much-attention-otherwise weekend.

Incidentally will we still have themes for them (dress your avatar like gimmick portion was a bit distracting, but I hope the themes will stay.

Hm. I don't know how this will go over, but we'll see. I have to agree with the people asking about the chocolate contest and SMWC Idol, though.

No more fall C3. I am sad. I think the problem was more the gimmick than the time (in spring C3 2011 everyone was focused on the eShromm Corp posts and the heroe side vs evil side rather than the hacking stuffs ).

But if that mean more funny random event, I will be happy.

I'm glad to here that the gimmicks will be removed, I thought they detracted from the overall quality of the most recent C3.

Will the Choco LDC remain in Sept/Oct?

Regarding C3- I didn't feel that past gimmicks were all that distracting from the main event except for Spring 11's which was indeed very distracting, what with eShroom and all, but I suppose making C3 yearly isn't a total bust.

Heh, pretty good idea there. Now people don't need to rush their work for C3 that much.

Also, I'm really curious what the hacking event in the summer might be D:
