News: Featured hacks - update
The decision about the new system is basically done, read the new featured hacks thread here (note: not completely done yet). Now just wait until Kieran is done with coding all of this.

Patience is welcome.

Ihatecards says:
"The funny thing [about the new hack rating system] is, some people actually give hacks HONEST 1/10s because they didn't enjoy their gaming experience, and some people here just scream troll at every occasion possible to hide the fact that their hacks truly suck."

I agree, considering all featured hacks aren't going to be refeatured, mods should probably go through TSRP hacks, Brutal Mario, SMW2+, etc. before the thread is reopened.

Oh, and Insert Coin of course. {B)

I'm thinking my hack probably won't be re-featured under the new Republican government system in its current state. Maybe I should finally get around to making that fix patch.

oh well i still have the badge!!

And it's cool that stuff is being recoded after all this time. Here's hoping the new system works out and that I get four straight 10-ratings again.

I suggest to make a restriction to nonsensical phrases, if that is possible.

Yeah, that section will probably be gone but the featured status for hacks will still remain.

So the "Featured Hacks" section will be deleted, right?

"The graphics are nice, but some Koopas feel a bit too unshaded, and the music is often unfitting." is much smaller than "THIS HACK SUCKS -(insert table stretching amount of 9s)/10" when ran through any useful compression algorithm.
Use this to your advantage.

Oh, and no downvoters know about <!--AAAAAAAAAAA-->.

Reviews are already moderated by staff members and short, bad ones are removed. The same would be the case when we have reviews/ratings linked, so unless it's clear why the hack deserved a 1 or 0 out of 10 (chances are it didn't) it wouldn't stay.

We'll see about including a character limit though.

Just out of curiosity, will there be some sort of minimum character limit when it comes to creating a review (and at the same time a rating)?

"it sucks -1/10 <!-- a lot of characters -->"

Good thing that now the Reviews and Ratings are editable, this way should allow to avoid trolling on hacks.

It's easy enough to spam a key to meet the character limit; the better approach might be just to review reviews and remove those that are plainly inappropriate, insubstantial, or superficial.

Just out of curiosity, will there be some sort of minimum character limit when it comes to creating a review (and at the same time a rating)? I mean someone could easily just write out a couple simple sentences that are similar to: "it sucked, I hated the graphics" etc, just to rate a hack a 1 out of 10. I know not many people would do this, but I have a feeling it would happen if there wasn't some sort of minimum character limit.

But either way, this is great! Glad to see some progress on this new system. :>

Also I bet there will still be idiots who will try to abuse the review system to rate a hack low...

You do realise that the new nomination thread will be swamped with recommendations as soon as it's opened right?

I'd suggest that some deciding staff start playing through some of the fan favourites bound for nomination right now, to help combat the massive backlog that's sure to form at the start of the new system.

In the long run however, I do think it's a good idea for a renewal, especially the ability to change votes. Before now, I've played a hack and thought better of it than it actually was, and then on a second playthrough attempted to lower the vote, or vice versa.

I assume it's gonna be organized so that we don't have to go looking through the hack list for the featured ones?

Looks like a good idea to me. It is nice to see the extra layer of moderation put in. Hopefully this system works well. Not to mention it was a really good idea to link the reviews. No more random people registering just to downrate or just searching for the highest just to downrate it.

And if someone tries that again, they will be caught much easier.

- ratings and reviews will be linked, so you'll have to write a review if you want to rate a hack.
- thus, ratings (just like reviews) will be editable.

No more ratings for no reason at all. /me likes :).

If I have read it correctly, users will still vote, but after some votes staff member plays it if features it if it's feature worthy.

I think it will be better with a featured hack section, like now, but eh.

As far as I know, we're considering a second moderation process, in which nominated hacks are played and reviewed by the staff.

I like that you can edit ratings now. I've been suggesting that feature a long time ago already.
