Regarding Hack Submission and C3

With the Spring 2011 C3 right around the corner, the hack moderation page is bound to get a bit hectic. To relieve some of the stress off of us Hack Moderators, please follow these easy and simple rules before you submit your hack:

1: PLEASE read the Hack Submission Guidelines (HSG) and make sure your hack does not violate any of these rules. I also have the link to it conveniently placed in my signature, along with a few other helpful links.
2. We ARE NOT your beta testers. Completely play through your finished version of your hack/demo before you submit it or even better yet, have a friend do it for you. Due to them not being familiar with your hack, they will be able to point out more stuff than if you did it yourself.
3. The "description" field when submitting your hack is for THE DESCRIPTION OF YOUR HACK, NOT FOR NOTES TO THE MODERATOR. If you feel it is necessary to leave a note for moderators in your description, please place them in {}'s or []'s or something along those lines at the bottom of the description so we know to delete it if the hack get accepted. We do have the right to not accept your hack if you do not have a proper description for it.

Now, on a happier note, C3 is less than a day away. So hurry up and get to hackin'!

Radio

Information on the radio/questions/etc. can go in the incarnation 3.0 stickied thread in the "Announcements" forum. Link.

You're welcome to post MP3s/SPCs/whatever there and we'll try and add it to the playlist!

Hadron-edit: updated link, now better if you avoid "risky" copyrighted songs.

(By the way, the third Kaizo Contest is underway in the Kaizo forum, and this time we're aiming for a collaboration hack of all the entries)

C3 is almost here!

Just a friendly reminder that Spring 2011's C3 is only a week away and will be on May 7th and May 8th.
Tell all your friends, relatives, co-workers, etc!

...or don't...it may just end up being a weird conversation...meh :P

EDIT: Oh, and there is that ropebox thing at the top now which is basically a cheap version of a chat room.
Go nuts. :P

Zeldara edit: For anyone who doesn't know what C3 is, it's basically a 2-day event where people can showcase their creativity. See the past C3 archives for examples.

Snes9X v1.53

A new version of Snes9X has been released, now at version 1.53. Download here, more information, changelog, and other builds (Linux, Mac, x64 Windows) on the Snes9X Forums.

Which begs the question, how many Snes9X users here used Snes9X v1.52?

SMWCP2

As of now it has been almost a month since level signups began. Some people have been hard at work designing their levels. Others have shown no progress at all thus far. Some haven't even posted in the forum again after claiming their level, which is disheartening.

I will be firing off PMs in the next week to everyone getting a "check up" on your levels. Although there is no deadline yet, it's likely going to be some point in June once I actually set it, so I'd advise the people who are slacking off actually pick up the pace.

If you do not have a level, there are still plenty of other ways you can help. Check out the "Resource Requests" sticky in the SMWCP2 forum and see if you can fulfill any of those requests. You can also check the "Level Testing" thread there and offer people feedback on their levels. Every role, no matter how minor it may seem, plays a key part in making this hack successful.

Thanks.

Smallsedit: Remember that C3 is just under two weeks away! It's not too late to get something started/finished/polished in time. All participants will receive pie. (Note: Promise of pie may be a complete fabrication.)

SMWiki

About two weeks ago it became impossible to edit or create SMWiki articles. You would keep ending up in some technical error page.

This has been fixed today, so you may start contributing to SMWiki again!

Kadyastar edit: If you are going to create a Wiki page for yourself or another user, please put a little more content in it then "lol check the bio in my profile". Creating placeholder pages (pages you plan on editing later) is fine, but empty/pointless-on-purpose pages really grates on the nerves of people who care about the Wiki.

C3 and Mosts trophies are finally distributed

I think this deserves a news post anyway. Yes, there's already a discussion thread, but not everyone checks Talk.

Anyway, as the title says, the long-awaited trophies for C3 Spring 2009, C3 Fall 2009, C3 Fall 2010, and the Winter 2010 Mosts have finally been distributed. You can thank Kieran for allowing an alternate method of trophy distribution involving sending him a certain type of file. (Oh, and don't forget Kadyastar and me for compiling the data from the results threads into those actual files, of course.)

On a related note, the confirmed dates for Spring 2011's C3 are May 7th and May 8th.

Zeldara edit: Wait, who added that line about the C3 dates? I was just wondering about them myself...

SMWCP2

In regards to keeping up with you psychopaths, I'll be locking the signups forum for about an hour or so to get myself caught up with everyone. At that point, I'll reopen it and the ones who claimed the levels can .. well, sign up for resources.

I mean, holy crap guys.

EDIT: It's reopened. If you got a level, you can begin claiming resources and start working now.

The following is a completely unofficial advertisement by Zeldara109:

Didn't get a level in SMWCP2? Well, maybe you'd like to distract yourself by trying out Yoshi's Island hacking? If you're at all interested, check out the YI hacking forum at http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewforum&f=25 for details.

Hadron also recommends some relaxing music for your tired nerves.

Level signups are on the horizon. DAWN OF A NEW DAY

As you can see (or at least, I pray you can), there are under four days until level signups begin for SMWCP2. Like I've said previously, if you have an interest in signing up for a level in this project, it is expected that you read through the stickied thread in the "SMWCP2: Signups" forum (the one titled "Mandatory"). It is also highly recommended that you skim through the planning forum and get an idea of what is going on. This is your responsibility, and in some cases, it may lead to level rejection if your level is too far off of what we have planned.

Here are a couple of things you need to know about signing up for a level.

1. The exact time that the forum will open is at 12:00 PM (noon) EST on Saturday, April 2nd. Bear in mind I enable it manually, so this may be off by about a minute or so.
2. All you need to do is make a post in the thread with the level you want. I don't care what you type - once you post in the thread, it's yours.
3. If you are going to be away Saturday, you may request someone to try and grab a level under your name. To the ones who claim for someone else: make sure you edit in the name of who you're grabbing it for at some point after you post.
4. If you sign up for more than one level, you will be blacklisted for the project. One level per person ONLY. Because levels will go fast, try to have a backup level in mind in case you don't get the level you want.
5. Finally, don't just sign up for a level for the sake of signing up for one. If you really have no ideas in mind, and aren't even motivated for the project, you'll just waste everyone's time. Spare yourself and the rest of us the effort.

Further questions or comments? Feel free to respond to this news post and I'll do my best to answer.

FP Edit: Bolded Rule 4 for emphasis.

aj edit: if you are looking for ideas, I'd advise you to take a look to this thread.

Zeldara edit: I'd like to add something that I think is pretty important...
6. Remember that this is a collaboration project, not a level design contest-- you will not be able to simply create a level on your own, submit it, and be done with it. If you claim a level, you are making a commitment to follow through with this project until the end, including responding to others' constructive criticism.
