R.I.P. UghRochester

The SMWCentral staff is heartbroken to join in mourning the sudden loss of Howard Hall, known in the Kaizo community as UghRochester.

As a long-time Twitch streamer of SMW hacks, UghRochester brought a spark of positivity and levity to his playthroughs, and maintained an inclusive and welcoming space for community members to learn about and enjoy watching both new and classic Kaizo SMW hacks. Many people new to streaming Kaizo hacks would find their first follower or subscriber to be Rochester, as he was always among the most willing to go out of his way to support and help new members of the community learn and grow their channels.

Rochester was a beacon of kindness and friendship to many, both online and offline. He could be counted on to be where Kaizo would be played, and his presence always made those events better. Whether he was there as a runner, commentator or just to support his friends and his community, UghRochester’s smile, hospitality and inclusivity became mainstays of Games Done Quick marathons where Super Mario World had a presence, and will be impossible to truly replace.

Our sincere condolences go out to the Hall family and to all who are mourning Howard.

Class of 2022 ... d

It's time for the results of CLDC!!! Class of 2022 LDC...

Oh, it's not an LDC? It's the one where you all sent me pictures? OK sure. If you would like to see how you ranked from "most beautiful" to "most beautiful" - see here!

we have now closed the kaizo hacks forum. good bye kaizo.

Yep, that's it. The Kaizo Hacks subforum that sat under Works in Progress is now closed. Bye Bye Kaizo.

lol clickbait! The forum has actually been merged with Works in Progress, with separation now happening via some pretty thread tags! Now, all WIP hacks, regardless of genre or difficulty. But, WHY??

The Kaizo Hacks forum has always been a bit of an anomaly on SMW Central... Everywhere else, Kaizo and Non-Kaizo sit happily together in the same room, like in the Hacks section, at C3, and even in the Full Releases forum. So it made sense to make this change. So if you just want to look for Kaizo hacks, you can filter on the thread tag by clicking on one. Same goes for non-Kaizo/aka Standard.

Super Mario 64 and You!

We previously mentioned when we created the Classic Mario Hacking forum that we were going to be "archiving" our SM64 sections and forums in the "near future". Today is the day of "near future".

As such, our SM64 sections on the site are now "read only", as in, they exist still, and they're still on the site menu for the time being, but no further submissions are being accepted. We have no plans to delete anything right now, but in the future we would like to find another website to inherit them.

The same goes for our Super Mario 64 forums, they have now been moved to the hallowing Forum Graveyard where all the forums go to die. Any future SM64 discussion, releasing of materials, etc, should now all go into Misc. ROM Hacking. So it's not like you're banned from ever mentioning SM64 again, there's just not a "dedicated space" for it anymore. But remember, the first rule of SM64 is don't talk about SM64.

I want to thank PablosCorner,  Major Flare, and  BuzzerPop, on behalf of everyone, for all of their work on the SM64 sections over the years, and for continuing to look after them despite their inactivity. Staff Status will be updated in the coming days.

Also - while I'm here, if you ever find yourself looking for the Super Mario Maker 2 forum (I mean, it's a long shot that anyone's looking for it, anyway), it's now a subforum of Gaming, not a forum under the Non-SMW Hacking category. Which is, amazingly, a much better fit for it. Though it really depends how you interpreted "Non-SMW Hacking"; did you think it meant "discussion on Non-SMW Hacking topics" or "discussion of hacking games that are non-SMW"? However, it definitely now means the latter.

That's all I have. bye bye/.

IT IS TIME! For SMW Central's (what seems to be) annual Class Of event! Where you send us pics, and we compile them into a pretty collage.

Here is the info thread!

Classic Mario ROM Hacking!! Plus other Non-SMW Hacking changes

It's forum cleanup time! #lm{recent} As our first step in updating our many subforums, we have made some changes to the Non-SMW Hacking section. You can read all the details in this new thread.

However, as part of those changes, we've added a new subforum! Introducing the Classic Mario Hacking Forum, dedicated to hacking all four NES/FDS Mario games (plus Super Mario All-Stars) that aren't called All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros.! We've got rules, essential tools, and recommended hacks all set up, so go check everything out!

As Rihanna would say: Super F:Oing Mario!!!!
