Wall-jumps are only sparingly. It will probably not be abused a whole bunch in succession because I don't like wall-jumping that much. Also, I kinda have a self imposed deadline, tho I'm not sure how much it will matter.

This us NOT harder than Living on the Edge. I admit, it's strange how close these events happened.

Next year I might as well just put Mario right on the goal at the start of the level just as a parody

Please don't ban regular Kaizo makers from entering in future. I almost feel like you might have to do that.

You'll find out when I upload the video and put up the download (it's a 1 level hack). I will not make a thread until it's done.

@mathelete I'm not gonna do that. I was joking. *SPOILERSNext year's level will probably be an athletic level.
Slightly off topic, but I think I know what I want to do for this year's Kaizo contest (assuming there is one) and no, I will not resubmit my level if that's what you were thinking.

Submitting a Kaizo level to this contest is like submitting a regular non-Kaizo level (or a pit level) to a Kaizo contest. I also realize more than ever the importance of playtesting, even in a contest. I have yet to play Fellipe's entry. I might have to, just out of curiosity.
An entry requiring glitches can't be good for your score (last year's Burning in Hell for Noobs came to mind. I think that might have required at least one glitch).
I hope this thread doesn't derail into a Kaizo contest discussion thread.

I think it would be funny to see someone try to submit a pit level to the vanilla contest (I wouldn't do such a thing). I think that would be disqualified right away.

It's good to see another vanilla hack that uses the original palettes. Will there be any custom palettes at all? Also, in the 14th screen, any reason for the bunch of pipes? I think actual land or something would look better there. Or at least make the pipes more differing lengths.
EDIT: You mentioned more varied palettes, so I guess that implies custom palettes. Did not read the entire OP.

Cannot get a good sense of how it looks (especially pallet wise) with the ZSNES menu screen up.

"Make better hacks." That is too vague to even count as criticism.

I think I feel the same way.

What's next, required brain scan technology to make it a felony to think bad things about the government? Oops, shouldn't have said that! Well, I doubt government officials would care to casually browse the forums of a site dedicated to a children's video game. They have more important Nero-ish things to do.
Congress would rather rape the first amendment than actually do anything to solve problems. They are so goin' to hell. They'd better get ready for a huge wave of lawsuits that would not fit inside the universe.

The fish generator seems to be one of those things that is underused in the original game but overused in hacks in the most annoying ways possible (Spiral Quiral comes to mind). In fact, there was only one level in the original SMW that used the fish generator (Awesome). I don't think enemy generators are used that often in SMW. I think it's difficult to use a fish generator in a way that also makes it fun.

Sounds like my level could have been like that, though you don't have to disclose such info just yet. My level took roughly six minutes for one playthrough because I basically put so much stuff in it and I had so many ideas. I kinda had a 'live for the moment' mentality.
There were some ideas I liked but scrapped because they were not consistently possible without taking a hit. One of the scrapped ideas was having to dodge a Thwomp and a Podoboo in tandem inside a cramped layer 2 rising up and down. The exact setup would have been Kaizo and required savestates. In other words, too hard.

I don't know why people bother with excessive precision jumping. I guess some may be inevitable, but excessive precision jumping should not be used, especially when it's used to artificially increase the difficulty. War of the Woods from RttC had lots of precision jumping in the third act combined with impregnable castle enemies making your life hell. That is why it took me so long to do that level savestateless. That, and requiring the player to spin jump on Ball n' Chains over lethal mud.
Even worse is Treehouse Joust where one part required spin jumping on a whole bunch of Ball n' Chains to cross a huge gap. Not fun. If that section was in a contest level, I think it would lose points for Kaizo difficulty.
Precision jumping by itself is neither challenging nor fun. Just annoying.

Insane aspects include but are not limited to multiple mid-air P-Switch jumping, wall jumping, screen scrolling Koopas off ledges in midair, and using keys as your personal flying apparatus.
