Why change it? It's only a minor error, not effecting the gameplay in any way. You should worry about it after you've fixed glitches that harm the game.
If you aren't going to use a feather for your hack, maybe you could make the alpha Yoshi/gliding Yoshi? When Mario gets onto Yoshi, he gets the feather power and is able to glide. If he is small Mario, it wouldn't effect his size, or if he's fire Mario, the palettes do not change. The cape would be invisible by getting rid of the graphics (The easiest way). I don't know what you'd do if he got off Yoshi, though. It was just an idea I was going to do with my hack. (I'm not working on a hack right now)

If I recollect correctly, people (professional hackers) said the problem was there was a bunch of stuff they had to decode before they could edit anything (Characters, stages, maybe items). They also gave an example that the programmers of SSB64 made a mess of walls that prevent anyone from hacking the game. What I'm basically saying is that nobody understands how to hack SSB64, it's just near impossible right now.

The SNES doesn't have a Z button, and X and Y are for holding objects. Though this doesn't really concern you at all.

Some new tutorials you say? Ersanio and others have already gathered quite a few already. The thread is actually right here. Though I do prefer this tutorial from Acmlm's the most.

A suggestion maybe, if a member that wants to rate a hack must provide a review first.
Bluemoon, this tutorial (From Acmlm's board), has an examples of making custom blocks and teaching you what it all means. I just recommend it, it isn't the best one, but if that one doesn't suit you, go to this thread (By Ersanio).

It would be cool for there to be a mode with a somewhat random battle system (Like with Wario Ware mini games). You would have to unlock all the characters for this mode, then you'd choose your character. Afterward, you'd be in a deck of cards, all characters get one card, and the Joker would be Smash-exclusive characters. It would basically be All-star mode from Melee... just more fancy. It was just a thought.
