Questions as to whether or not Osama was actually killed are silly. A DNA test was run and it was determined to be identical to Osama, and various white house correspondents have been shown images of his dead body. There will be some on the fringe (i.e. Andrew Brietbart) who will continue to doubt this, but it's ridiculous.
People may debate whether the U.S. should've spent so much money and devoted so many resources to going out and finding Osama, and that's a credible claim. The good news here though is that it didn't all go to waste. Internationally, our foreign policy looks less like a wild goose chase and more like something that actually produced results. I commend Obama's leadership: he negotiated with the CIA, decided on and authorized the most effective mission, (actually getting the body as opposed to drones) and decided when they had adequate resources. The selfish part of me is happy this is a political boost for Obama.
This is really more of a symbolic gesture: al qaeda looks weak for having their leader killed. Additionally, the U.S. apparently retrieved invaluable resources which will set them back even more. Sure, they might try and retaliate, but airports and such have increased security for the time being.
It's odd, perhaps, to be celebrating the death of someone. Indeed, killing Osama isn't going to bring back the families that were lost in 9/11. I do think in the long term, though, it makes the world a safer place.

This is what happens far too often, unfortunately, but it's only a part of C3. The big deal is when people spend months preparing things specifically for the event. There have been various tools, demos, full hack releases, that would not have made the splash or popularity without C3. Consider E3: seeing video game companies come up with what they had prepared in one big event is a lot more exciting then them just making scattered press statements.

I just got out of college yesterday and won't be back until the beginning of September, so it's a pretty big chunk of time. In August, I'm going down Ashland, Oregon, which is known for putting on top-notch Shakespeare plays. We also have family down there. Also in August, I'm going to Bellingham, Washington, for a weeklong debate workshop. Should be fun.
For the time being, I've been looking for a part time job to help pay for college, but the market isn't the greatest.

All caught up now. At this point, my favorite episodes would have to be A Party of One, (*TWITCH*) Cutie Mark Chronicles, and Suited for Success. Really though, I've enjoyed all the episodes and like all the characters. Can't wait for the season finale tomorrow.

I'll try to avoid spoilers, but yeah, great way to end the season. It wasn't episode 25 tier, but I enjoyed it a lot. It's neat to see nods from previous episodes.
December can't come soon enough. D:

For the past two years, I've made it a tradition to post content from my current Super Mario World hack, A Severed Freedom. It began with this announcement thread, then this one, and then this faux cancellation that only showed more progress.
I am happy to report that over the past six months, I've completed several more levels and have new content to share. As has been the case in the past, I will not be releasing any demos or level sampler: this is a full-fledged project with over 50 levels, and I want to give players the whole experience. The hack is now well over halfway done.
And without any further adieu, content!

A Severed Freedom - Western Sunset
A Severed Freedom - Flicker Factory

Music
Banjo-Tooie - Witchyworld
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Jake Marshall's Theme
Professor Layton - Puzzle Theme
Super Castlevania IV - Theme of Simon
As always, I'd like to thank everyone for their continued support. Even as I go through college, I'm still able to regularly work on the hack. It's getting close, but likely will not be ready for release until next year. Thanks again for visiting!

What's so impressive about your levels, from the ruins to the starspire to this, is the way you're able to include so many gimmicks into the hack without making it feel stuffed or contrived. Just look at this level, which features falling bombs, mine carts you have to dodge, and even the prospector. It's the way so many ideas come together so well that makes this hack incredibly fun to play. For instance, the bit where you guide the mine cart to the wall is very clever. It isn't ASM for the sake of ASM, but rather to benefit the level as a whole.
It's also worth noting that the aesthetics for your level have gotten significantly better. You may not agree, but your artistic abilities are really showing through: the graphics here work very well for the mood of the level. Adding a bit more to the BG would be great for sure, but as it is, the visuals really help the levels. Of course, the real star of the show is this, along with the other music tracks you linked. Gotta love amazingflyinshittytrack K Squared.
Looking forward to this as much as ever.

GOOD NIGHT!
Anyway, these ports are top-notch. Shiver Star was in desperate need of an update, and like your Pop Star Stage 2 theme, the KDL3 samples do it justice. As for My Home, Sweet Home, a certain hack made it quite emotionally charged.
Yeah, great stuff.

This is incredibly frustrating, but let's consider a few things:
-Faust wasn't the writer of any episodes, and only directed the first three. She may have been involved in terms of oversight and creative direction, but the writers and directors are still around.
-She's going to have some involvement in the second season it sounds like. Time will tell how much, but her influence will still be there, a bit at least.
-Faust essentially laid the groundwork for the show already. She established the characters, plot, etc, and it's hard to imagine that taking a 180. I also think her parameters, such as preventing it from becoming just a "girly" show will be adhered to in the future. She was there when the show most needed her, not to say it doesn't now.
-It shows how much she cares about the fans to post this. Really, we could've just been thrown a bucket of cold water as we saw the first episode of the second season, but we've got a summer to mull it over. The frustration should not be directed toward her at all.
Time will tell what'll happen, and honestly, it's frustrating that we have to sit here wondering how much the show will change. The news is aggravating, to be sure, but honestly, I don't think the show's remotely going to be ruined or turned into blatant product placement. I'm not convinced it'll be that different at all, in large part because I don't know to what end Faust was involved. As in, I know she played a large role with the show, but I'm not sure her absence will radically change things.

Well, here's some better news.
Sounds like they already have 7 episodes done, Luna's (presumably) coming back in one of them, and it sounds like he likes the plot in them. The only slightly concerning line is:
Originally posted by KreossSeason 2 will introduce new characters and bring back some old familiar ones.
I'm guessing this is just referring to the side characters rather than the main cast. Ugh, what a night.

Actually, both that screenshot and the 8th are both part of a single level, and they're both tied to a certain song I linked...
Originally posted by MrDeePay- This is the more minor of the two, but Ama's hairband. On side shots, it's firmly at the top of her head, but shots from behind (spin jumping, climbing), it's as if it's on the back of it. I suppose an explanation for one instance is that she's looking straight up when climbing.
Come to think of it, there was always something about that frame that seemed off to me as well. When she's facing the camera, it's straight up, but from the back... yeah. Thanks for pointing that out - I'll get on it.
Originally posted by MrDeePay- Western Sunset's BG. All-in-all, it looks very well made and the level itself looks fantastic (I've been meaning to try something similar for my own works), but I don't believe that the BG should be H-scrolling in the level because of the sun in the background. If it's put on it's own layer (such as Layer 3) then go for it, but as it is, it just doesn't look right to me.
Yes. The moving sun really doesn't make much sense. Ideally, I'd like to get it static on layer 3, though I've been reluctant to do layer 3 stuff until the basic design of all the levels is done. If push comes to shove, disabling horizontal scrolling would probably work best.
Thanks so much for all the feedback, guys! Since I generally avoid posting ASF-related content outside of C3, it's sometimes hard to know what people will like, so I'm glad so many people are enjoying what I have to show. It's very encouraging as progress continues.

SNN and Foursword4, both of whom I talk to regularly on MSN. Other than that, I still consider Lucas a good friend, though I haven't been able to talk to him much lately. There are a lot of users, such as Jacob, Iceguy and CrispyYoshi, who I consider myself on friendly terms with, but don't know super well.

I've always had a soft spot for oriental-themed levels/worlds, so it's great to be able to design one here. Plus, my level in SMWCP (Asteroid Frigate) was pretty underwhelming, so it gives me a chance to do it right this time.
Basically, I'm treating this level like one in my own hack. Meaning, I'll be drawing both the FG and BG tileset, along with some potential sprite odds and ends, and will post my work here for comments and suggestions. Likely, I'll be composing my own track for the level. Stay tuned.
As for the design itself, I have it tentatively called "Taiko Temple." The level's namesake, and one of the major gimmicks, will be 16x16 (and perhaps 32x32) Taiko drums. Essentially, they'll be custom blocks that'll be ExAnimated. Each time a drum "beats" it compresses, has a couple waves come off it. If Mario is standing on it when it beats, he'll go straight in the air at a height a little lower than a springboard. I'll have it set so that each "beat" occurs every sixteen frames. But it'll be a bit more interesting: one type of drum will beat on the first frame, and the other will beat on the ninth. Two alternating drums will make for some interesting design.
So, they'll be custom blocks. I'm far from amazing at ASM, but it's something I should be able to put together pretty easily.
As for level layout, it will likely start with the exterior of the shrine, a dock, and some layer 3 water. It'll be purely for aesthetic purposes, as the door inside is right there. Once in, the first half of the level will be vertical, with some platforming action with the drums. I'll likely throw in a pipe for an alternate route/bonus area too. Then, the second half will switch to horizontal. It'll be layer 2 and use the scroll left medium sprite. Essentially, there'll be a few drums in place, but various obstacles and enemies will scroll toward you. You'll move between the drums to avoid certain ones and get to safety. Don't worry about the background - I'm OCD about this and always manually assemble the BG on layer 1 or 2 depending on the layout (will be layer 2 here, so it appears to scroll too). After that segment the level would end.
It's a pretty untraditional take on a shrine, but not only did this idea jump out of me, but it can be hard to come up with fun, interesting level design for a shrine. They tend to be pretty boring places with meditation and whatnot.
A lot of this stuff will make more sense once I have some design to show in the coming weeks. For now, suggestions and ideas are always appreciated. I tend to be very independent when it comes to designing levels, but because the hack's a team effort, I'm trying to curb the habit here. Bear with me.

It's hard to know what you mean by "mandatory." There are a lot of people who don't go to college and live perfectly fine lives, getting decent jobs, so by that definition, it's not mandatory. I'd say that for some people, the whole college process doesn't go well with them or their personality. It is, however, important for numerous reasons.
With how the economy is globally, it's extremely difficult to get a good job, especially without a college education. Going to college gives you a better resume and access to more types of jobs. Consider for instance your idea of being a voice actor, which be a fun job. Would an employer be more likely to hire you, or someone who may be a Communication or Theater major in college, one a lot more qualified for the position? If you look at voice acting as a whole, especially for animated films and, most recently, Portal 2, they've been hiring well-known actors and people quite qualified. This qualification often begins with a college education.
Additionally, numerous studies have found that more college graduates have jobs and that their wages are significantly higher. Again, you can have a good, even well-paying job without it, but it can only help.
I also think your opinion of college is a bit skewed. It really isn't where "you learn about the same thing for 4 years." I'm a Political Science major myself, and nowhere in high school did they have a Congressional Politics course. You can go to a lot of colleges and they will almost certainly let you learn new things. I'd say high school lays the groundwork, and college gives you the chance to really grow.
A lot of it stems from wanting to be curious and learn more about the world. College does make you smarter. Realize that by deciding not to go to college, you're studding intellectual growth. For some people, it may not matter. But just realize you're potentially closing the door on your ability to grow as a person.
