I just started editing the default mario world level 106. I changed the Sprite, object and bg colors to Castle. I added some floor, lava, a thomp, fireballs and some vines. When I enter the level its completely black, the music plays, and I can't hear mario jumping. I am guessing it froze. I am also guessing I did something wrong to make it completely black to where I can't see anything. Anyone know how to fix this? I've known about Lunar Magic for awile, but never really got into until yesterday. I created a regular level which works fine, but this castle level doesn't
I figured it was something small I overlooked. Thanks for the help.
I am trying to make a level that has water in it, so I can make a land level that has water parts that go under ground and re surface in another spot. When I try to use one of the elbow parts in the water, there is white in the corner, I am trying to have it blend in with the water so it looks correct. Any ideas?
Never used it before. Is there a way to fix this in Lunar Magic, or do I need another tool? These tiles are also used for other parts of my overworld, not just for under water parts.

YY-CHR is very easy to use.

Drag and drop the GFX file on YY-CHR, change the graphics mode to 4BPP SNES, and you're good to go!
I see. I am still new to all this, so which file do I drag on to it? I opened my rom and are confused what to do from there.

Click the Red Mushroom, then open YY-CHR, open the .bin files in a now-created Graphics folder. You can work from there.

Note you will need to rename the "YY-CHR.*EXAMPLE* ENA" to your country language extension in the "YY-CHR LANGUAGE" text file.
Hmm. Which bin file would have the regular super mario world ledge tiles. And after I am done editing them, how do I get the data back into my rom? Or does it read the data from the bin files?
I was wondering how to add backgrounds to my hack from here. I downloaded one, but I don't know what to do from there. Also, how can I use the animated backgrounds in super mario world, like the night time sparkly one, from level 116. It says something about needing to do something to the header. I click ok anyway and the background is a bit messed up.

Simple, yes? I don't know about the second question, though.
More detail please, I still can't do it easily, if you give more detail to those you're helping, they will understand better.
Do you HAVE to put the background together in the tile editor? I mean, it looks very hard to do this peace by peace. Can't they align by pressing some sort of button?

@SanigiMania: Insert??? You are not helping, you keep leaving out minor details. I am new to this, I can't just assume I know what you mean when you don't go into detail. Please help me correctly, or leave it to others who will, you've just had me waste 2 hours trying to do what you said, and allot of confusion. I am NEW to this! Remember that.

No sample level (.mwl file) = You have to place all the tiles yourself. If this is too much then rerip the BG.
What do you mean by re rip. How? An I tried to import a custom level but it says the graphics were not found.
I've tried for months now. I've read guides, watched videos, everything, and I still can not get objects and backgrounds inserted properly. I do everything said and the background is either all garbled, or not even there. I've tried using the test levels after I insert the GFX and such, I've added the map bin files to where they need to be, I've done everything and I still can not get it working. I am pretty creative, I think I could make a great hack, but I can't seem to get the stuff I want to do that with.

I tried this background as a test:

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=showexgfx&id=2634

I did everything correct, and I even imported palettes after I did everything.

I tried these objects:

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=showexgfx&id=89

I followed this walkthrough:

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&t=41753

Yet I still can't get it working. I am close to giving up, which is not what I want to do. I see a ton of other people have custom backgrounds and tiles, and that makes me try again, thus wasting more hours of frustration.

Can anyone walk me through this in a simple way. I will try one last time, if someone is willing to help.
Yes I did. It didn't help the situation any. Everything was still the same.

I don't understand what you mean.. I can't even get the test level to show right. It's blank.

How do I make the test levels that come with the background work? It gives me an error every time saying something about the ExGFX, I got rid of the error by making sure the ExGFX was inserted right. But when I insert them, and set everything up, including the map bin file, the test level is blank. I am trying to use the test level to copy the full background, instead of having to put it together part by part.

That's the thing, I can't get the test levels to even show the background. I saved right after I imported them to map16
I figured it out myself. Thanks for the help though, it is appreciated. I do have one question though. I have a background that came with a palette, I have it set up. I have some objects that also have there own palette, how can I use both the background and the objects perfectly, even though they both use different palettes. An is it possible for me to change my the default smw objects graphics without altering the backgrounds graphics? I'd like to make the platforms ice blue like in normal smw, but it messes up my background which uses a custom palette.
I've seen this in hacks before, Is there an easy way for someone who is not good with Lunar Magic or hacking to have this? A better explanation of what I mean by the pipes, is the pipes you go into and you come out on the other side, in a second, without leaving the level or needing to set a point or anything.
Im confused about one part:

look for a spot with 0x1000 free bytes or more.

I have a hex editor, but I don't have any idea what this means. What address do I find this at, and what would it look like.

Edit: I'm using SMW redrawn. I have only edited two levels, so it should have everything the normal SMW would have. It is 3073 MBs (the rom) I expanded it to 3000 MBs. Then edited the first two levels.

I see. My final question. I have a level with custom blocks, I want to use my custom pipes as these. How can I do this and still have regular pipes and these pipes, in my level. The readme said no other objects can be on the map16 page. Does this mean I need to download a pipe set without anything else and then add them to my level? Or can I use the same pipe objects on another page, and select the pipes from that other page. Because I want to have only certain pipes doing this and my other pipes normal. But I don't want to screw anything up, the pipes I have only come with other objects.. Not only the pipes.. Unless pipes have there own ExGFX file?

I'm not really good with this.
Hmm, seems like allot of trouble. Well how can I use the test file that comes with it, the graphics are garbled. I can use the regular smw pipes, if you can help me get them working. I tried his test level but most of it is garbled. How can I make them look good. I tried this on a fresh smw rom, and I could only see his cement blocks good. The other things were garbled and I did everything in the readme.
