First plug in your RCA cables to your Dazzle. Then, plug in your Dazzle to your computer and open up the included Pinnacle Studio 12(If that's not your version number, then tell me). Near the top-left corner there are 3 tabs: 1. Capture, 2. Edit, and 3. Make Movie. Click on 1. Capture. Capture from "Videotape or Video Source". If you're not using RCA cable splitters, then you'll have to play off of the small screen it gives you in the top-right corner. Next, change your settings and make sure both the Video and Audio inputs are from the Dazzle. Change anything else you want, and then start recording!
NOTE: If you're using RCA cable splitters, then you'll have to plug in the cable to the splitter's input, then plug in one output to the Dazzle and one output to your TV. If you use RCA cable splitters, the screen might get a little darker due to the power of the signals being decreased because the cables are being split. You can easily counter the extra darkness on your TV by increasing its brightness. It will look fine on Pinnacle Studio, though.
Hope this helped! If you have any more questions, just ask me here.
Thanks alot. I pretty much figured out the setup. However I'm pretty sure it would've worked but when I tried to plug in the splitters, they couldn't plug in anywhere, not even in the dazzle; So I'm assuming I bought the wrong size splitter.
Do you happen to know the correct size?

I didn't even know there was a correct size of splitter. Where did you buy them? I got mine at Best Buy, try there.
I got mine at radio shack (Hope i spelled that right)There were a quiet a few different ones it looked like. I figured there must be a certain kind I have to buy, if it didn't plug in to none of the TV's I have, plus the dazzle.
Edited: Okay so the splitters are out of the question right now. Right now every-time I plug my dazzle in, it says this word for word
"A Pinnacle Systems USB 2.0 High Speed Only Device has been connected
"To a USB1.1 port on this computer. For correct operation the device must always be connected to a USB2.0 (HighSpeed USB)port on the computer"
I'm using Pinnacle Stuido 12 btw, so my question is, do I need a high-speed port for just Pinnacle studio? Or a high speed port to get dazzle to work period.
Also I heard you can record with INSTANT dvd recorder also. Is that any good and do I have to have a HighSpeed Port for that also?

I am all ears to criticism and feed back so yeah I'd appreciate it.
Note: I use my own audio because I don't have a recording device the let's me record sound.

(To georgevssonic)I understand, thanks for being honest. If I may ask, have any suggestions to how I can spice it up a bit?
(To) MarioFan22) Thanks for the feedback and pointers. I was unaware that I missed those cutoffs.
(1:56 - I'm sure the Munchers are rooted to something but they look as if they are floating here since the bottom is not visible.)
Yeah they are, they got cut off because of snag it.
(2:26 - I don't know if it's possible, but wouldn't Mario be able to) jump above the ceiling and get stuck in the ground.)
Yes. I'm not sure how to make it so he can't jump over the ceiling so I just avoided it for now.

I don't know if this your first hack or not (Assuming it is) but if so here's my comment
It seems like you have creative potential.
The design seemed a bit disorganized but the level still seemed fun.

While I was testing one of my levels some sprites looked like as if pieces of them were missing for some reason again. And I applied the nospritelimits patch already and set the sprite memory to 10.
My guess is that there's to how many stages I can set the sprite memory to 10 on. I'm not sure..if you can help out, that would be great.

- You can use some MAP16 tiles to create some nice decorations. Tileset mixing would also do.
- Perhaps some graphical changes for perhaps the pipes. Totalyl my opinion though.
As for your level design, it's really good.
Okay I can totally understand and agree with that. However I'm not sure how to do alot of things, such as graphical changes, mixed tile sets.
As for the other things such as decorations and adding in more coins consider I'll try and do that more.
The only things I seem to know how to do, are creating nice palettes and use custom BGS and FGS and make nice decent Level Designs still learning how to do the others.
Well here are some screen shots for the next two levels I'm working on.

For the level above there's few minor problems like sprite glitching and I don't know how to fix it yet so until then that levels under construction

For this level there's really not a problem so far, it's just getting the tiles to act like the right tiles in map 16
Yeah I'll try and show a video soon. Hacking is not easy work for me

If you guys mean take pictures with ZNESZ, I did, however to put them together I used photo-bucket to make a collage.
(To Mission_316) Thank alot for feed back in pointers. The wall climbing, I thought it would be cool to make it look like mario was rock climbing.
The foreground: I probably should change it. I just have a little trouble using custom made foregrounds but defiantly could be done. And thanks for pointing out the bullet bill cut off, I didn't catch that.
As for the sonic themed level is their a way to make it play like sonic, I can defiantly see what I can do.

I can't really explain - it's just how some levels place objects so perfectly that if you don't try to dash through then it ends up being harder for you.
I can't see an easy way to make that happen in SMW, but you never know. Basically it involves not forcing the player to stop and wait for anything, but that requires a bit of playtesting to get a handle on where to exactly place every single piece of land.
I was just throwing the idea out there anyway - if you have a different (or better) one then just ignore me.

Ah Okay I understand what you mean now. As for this Level, It doesn't focus on speeding through it so much but I will defiantly take your idea into consideration, I think I can pull it off.
Well finally finished the sonic themed level. It took me at least two days max to finish it, and put all the effort into it I could. Hope you viewers that are watching this like it. This is the last level of the 1st world, followed by a boss level.

Making a hack is not as nearly easy as I thought it would, and infact it's hard work for me, and I'm still near the beginning for how long I plan to make my hack.

Certainly hope this thread isn't dead)
I'm currently making a water/island level and I'm kind of in a ditch of what to use for a foreground so any suggestions to what foreground I should use with this background.

Hey, I just started following this thread today and I gotta say, I'm really liking the hack from what I've seen. The over world is amazing (Probably one of the best I've seen) and the graphics are great as well, no complaints.
About your recent video, I actually don't think it was terrible. And nice idea with the bullet bills coming out of pipes.
I'm assuming the level isn't finished yet? (Judging by the end of the video)

Hey so I've heard that it would be better not to save anything to page 2 in the map16 tile section but I've seen some people save their blocks they inserted with BTSD to that page.
Is it safe to insert blocks to that page?
|
|
|

Originally posted by DakressYes and no.Yes because the blocks inserted will work correctly and no because the graphics on the tiles of that page changes depending of the FG/BG tileset.
So other then changing the graphics, it won't mess up the rom/game or anything?

(To georgevssonic)Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I tend to over use the Grey Blocks because their just so easy to find places to use them. But I will use them a lot less for now on.
Hey for those of you who have been following this thread (Basically those of you that care) This will be my last post for the week and possible a few days after that. I'm preparing for a event that's happening tomorrow so I'll be busy for the weekend. I'll be working on the hack again Sunday evening. Just thought Is should let people know so they don't think I've totally giving up.
Anyways here are some screen shots

This Is Kind of a Space theme kind of level.

So yeah as for as level designing, that's how it looks so far, I haven't adding anything in yet. This level is going to involved a few cool gimmicks but most of all it's going to be pretty interesting I think.
Note: By the way, I'm not longer working in level order so yeah just thought I should put that out there before you guys think I'm just pulling out random levels out of nowhere.
With That said comment away.

It's not a problem though, since the palettes in your levels don't look displeasing to the eye. However, I suggest you read some tutorials on the site regarding a good custom palette. I think I'll watch this thread...
By the way, what the hell is up with your avatar?! Sazh is obviously better {: )
Thanks for the feed back. Question...do you mean over all what I'm showing or just my recent post. Just curious.
And lol I don't know why but I like hope, he kind of reminds me of me, accept the emo-ness

My question is, how do you get ON/OFF switches to interact with blocks.
Like if I wanted to make a block appear only when the ON/OFF switch is "ON", vice versa.
If somebody could answer this, it would be nice.

After about almost a week, this thread is alive again with more progress made on my hack (If you care that is). Yeah I had a 3 day overnighter at my house at possibly the worst time ever but anyways I managed to completed another level. It takes forever to actually completed a level but I guess that's a good thing. Anyways enough talking.

3 things I'm aware of.
1. Forgot the Check Point
2. Forgot to adjust the time to a reasonable time limit.
3. Forgot the hintbox/boxes
Was totally unaware of these things after recording and didn't feel like rerecording.
With that said, Please Leave Feedback and see you guys tomorrow (or Later on today I should say)

One problem (other than the bad movie sequel video quality): I can never get the background in the vertical cave segment to look right. For some reason it would look right when starting from the top, but from where I started, it doesn't. I used H Scroll- Variable and V Scroll- Slow. It just seems so random with vertical levels.
First I like to start by saying, Gawd your hack looks mad as hell. I like it, I'm defiantly going to try it when it's finished. Consider me a follower of this thread.
This is probably one of my favorite levels along with the water level. And the custom music you use is awesome. Btw I had the exact same problem with the vertical cave background. My solution to the problem was actually redoing the whole background, but I'm sure you can just move it to match. It's really not as hard as it sounds. (That's if your even having this problem still.) Unexpected end tag (</param>) at 260, expected </div> Unexpected end tag (</param>) at 311, expected </div> Unexpected end tag (</param>) at 366, expected </div> Unexpected end tag (</embed>) at 564, expected </div> Unexpected end tag (</object>) at 573, expected </div>
