I've checked the list of tutorials and threads and can't seem to find the specific problem I'm having.

I'm trying to match animation with the "Appearing/Disappearing Block 13" from block tool (I inserted the block in BTSD with the proper offsets & numbers, I more than triple checked them) The block is passable for 8 frames and solid for 8 frames. I inserted it into Map16 acting like 25 (blank tile). I tested the block and it works!! Awesome!

Now, I'm trying to fit animation with the block and did the following:

Type: 4 8x8s: 16x16
Frames: 0F
Destination: 129
Trigger: None

Frames 00-07: 6F0 6F0 6F0 6F0 6F0 6F0 6F0 6F0 (Passable Graphics)
Frames 08-0F: 6D0 6D0 6D0 6D0 6D0 6D0 6D0 6D0 (Solid Graphics)

The graphics are correct, but the animation does not match up with the block behavior which should be passable for the first 8 frames and solid for 8 frames. It seems that the animation is changing faster than the block behavior. I played around with it, rearranging the number of frames and so on but nothing is working. Am I missing a step here? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

I'm using Framal Blocks now and it works!! Thank you!

One thing to note though, it still wasn't working at first with the Framal block. I figured out I had to add one extra frame for the animation to fit. So instead of writing 0F frames, I put 10 frames and it works like a charm! Hmm, interesting. I just read your post Sind as I was typing. Thank you for your help.

-I counted '00' as a frame under my total frames '0F' which might have been my problem.

Hey everybody! I'm completely done with my first hack, Cinnamon Hills, and all I need are testers. However, there are two problems stopping me from submitting...

One, I can't seem to figure out how to utilize the door which is used after Castle #2 in th original game. The door is always opened. How do I place a closed door and have it open in the proper event?

Photobucket

Two, I have an Orange Switch Palace. My story takes place right after Mario returns from vacation and has already pressed the other four switches so I can't use the given colors. How do I change the color of the switch blocks that fly out during the palace event sequence? I'm using the red switch palace event and tried to change all the red colors of the pallete to orange but its not working. Is there a way to hex the color in?

Photobucket

Thats all! Thanks for reading and any help would be great! I hope you get a chance to enjoy the game when I submit it hopefully before the new year!

The blue door works! There are two tiles with the blue door, tiles 83 and 45. I was using 45 which doesn't open the level settings. All fixed, thank you! Now to figure out the red switch blocks :/

That would be great! Forgive me I don't know how to link files yet but if you look under my files I just uploaded the Zip. Let me know what you think and PM me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!

Nevermind, angelofdeath, I sent you a link via PM! That goes for anyone reading this who wants to test my hack under my files. Go for it! More input the better!

If all else fails, you can open up YY-CHR and open GFX 1E and manually change the color away from the shining color. I tried it and it works. Hopefully the color you choose won't conflict with any other color in the overworld.

Thanks for the help. It was the right color. For some reason I must have avoided that color because Mario uses it. Bummer :/ Either I'll have a partially orange Mario or I'll try to figure a way to change his color with YYCHR. I'll figure it out.

Just to clarify, did you save both the GFX file AND the palette from YYCHR and loaded BOTH into Lunar Magic? Did you reload your overworld when you inserted your GFX and palette under the 'file' tab? Those are the only things I can think of that may be causing your problem.

If you have Lunar Magic 1.9, under the palette editor there should be a blue star which says 'Export palette to file'. Save the palette file and open palette in YYCHR.

Now I'm curious. I have ZSNES and tried the savestate method but didn't work. A window popped up with undefined letters and symbols, clicked 'ok' and it did nothing. hmm...interesting.

The On/Off block can only alter the diagonal black line guide and control Layer 2 rise/fall if you use that generator.

You can, however, check out the 'blocks' section for blocks containing the On/Off switch, solid On/Off blocks, On/Off pipes, etc.

First off, it really helps, at least for me, if you set a goal for yourself and stay true to your goal while you design your hack. It seems to me that maybe things fall apart because you may not have a clear focus on what your trying to accomplish. For example, your goal could be to create an smb3 style hack or a vanilla hack with a certain difficulty.

For me, level design is the most important element in a hack. Someone can have the most impressive graphics, story, bosses, etc. but if they lack level design (either too boring or too hard), the hack would not be as fun to play. I focus most of my time on level design. I create a landscape for a level, add some elements and then I test/tweak and test/tweak and test/tweak some more. I try to place myself in the shoes of a potential player of my hack and ask myself some questions,

1) What would a player like to see?
2) What would a player expect to see?
3) What would throw the player off to create a stir in the level?

The trick is to come up with different solutions for every single level when answering these questions.

I can ramble on quite a bit with this subject but I hope I gave you something to think about here. Good luck!

At first I didn't recognize you were using vanilla graphics because of the way you used the ghost house graphics and the palette with the purple and grey. Very neat and unique. Good job!

All you really need to do is move the tile that conflicts with the fireball.

Two ways you could do this...

1) Go to the npc asm file under 'sprite graphics routine'

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; sprite graphics routine
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

TILEMAP dcb $06,$26 ; Walking 1 (upper, lower)
dcb $04,$24 ;Walking 2 (upper, lower)

You see the '$04' Tile for 'Walking 2'? That tile is currently the fireball on your map. Change it to whatever tile you want your npc sprite tile to be.

Or

2) Go to the SMW Rom map and change the hex and graphics spot for the fireball tile which is currently '$04' under this address...

1217A $02:9F7A 1 Yoshi's Fireball Frame 1 Tilemap

If you really want Toad to be in that lower corner, the graphics tilemap would be the following...

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; sprite graphics routine
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

TILEMAP dcb $42,$62 ; Walking 1 (upper, lower)
dcb $40,$60 ;Walking 2 (upper, lower)

Hope this helps!!

This is my redesigned version of the classic game Blaster Master. Every tank and overhead level has been redesigned, area portals relocated, and some palette changes here and there.

Here's the link to the latest version.
AJ Blaster Master V1.1

Version 1.1 fixes minor graphical issues and I tweaked enemy locations.

If you haven't played the original Blaster Master game, I highly recommend it. I think it's the most underrated NES game out there and it has a solid fan base. I grew up playing this game and I don't remember the experience I had figuring the game out but I imagine it may take a couple tries to get the hang of it (such as not being able to fall from high places when you exit the vehicle). Other than that it's a great experience.

I hope there is enough people out there who remember and love this game. Let me know your thoughts! Enjoy the game!!!!

I remember when Super Mario 3 came out for the NES. I reached level 1-6 when we first rented it and I was really upset when we had to take it back. When I discovered whistles, I remember reaching Bowser's Castle and that laser scared the living hell out of me!

I also remember that Dr. Mario commerical with the 'Witch Doctor' song that, to this day, still gets stuck in my head occasionally.

There was a time with no cell phones, no internet and no little gadgets with music and games. Just you and a few friends on a beautiful summer day having fun outside and running inside to play some 4-Player Bomberman on the SNES.

I remember when the N64 came out. I was 12 but still I did not even think of a 3-D Mario game until I saw the previews for the N64. My young mind was blown!! Mario 64, Starfox, Zelda, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, oh yes!!! Many memories with the Playstation too! I loved Destruction Derby, Sled Storm, and Oddworld.

Yes, those were the days!!!

When you downloaded the sprites, did you place the ASM and the CFG files in the SAME folder as the other sprites? If not, that may be your problem.
