The reaction depends on age.

Age 5 - 11: COOL WHAT ARE YOU DOING LET ME SEE IS THAT MARIO SUNSHINE THAT GAME IS LIKE SO OLD THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE MARIO WHY DOES IT LOOK DIFFERENT COOL YOU'RE MAKING YOUR OWN GAME CAN I TRY PLEASE WHERE DO YOU GET IT I WANT IT CAN YOU PLAY THE WHOLE GAME I CAN BEAT ZELDA WIND WAKER IN LIKE 30 MINUTES I BET YOU CAN'T... I think you get the idea...

Age 12 - 17: Whoa! Sweet! You're making your own Mario game!

Age 18 - 25: Hey, that's pretty cool. Wanna go to the movies?

Age 26 + : Stop wasting your time. I'm an adult and I know a lot more than you so I'm going to tell you how much of a hopeless social reject you'll be if you don't start doing what we tell you to. (Not that I am bitter.)
I'll try to stick to the original idea for you, AtomicShroom.

Anyway, I just felt the need to say this (after playing a few questionable hacks)... test your level repeatedly, as you go along. That way you will catch any and all errors before uploading. Test as every kind of Mario (small, big, fire, cape, or whatever is available), and TEST WITH YOSHI TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET GLITCHED GRAPHICS!

You can go piece by piece or you can lay down one layer at a time... it doesn't matter how you go about creating it as you go about testing it. Don't finish the whole thing, then test it once to see if it functions. Try to break the game... do things most players won't.

Then, when you test, keep a critical eye on your work. Say "oh, that pallet is bad," or "that sprite really shouldn't be there," or "hmm, slowdown... better get rid of those 17 red koopas." The most important thing to ask yourself is "have I done this before?" If the answer is yes, chances are you need to remove or change that section of your level. Not only will your hack look finely polished and cared for, but anyone else who plays will greatly appreciate no bugs, no uglies, and no boring repetition!

P.S. I hope this qualifies as a "good level" tip, not a "tip of the day."
No one ever "gets" the fads. They come and go, and you just repeat them to show everyone that you know a bit about this thing called the internet. 'Course, they usually separate the n00bs from the 1337s... if you know what I mean. Quote a fad the wrong way, and you're a n00b.

What I can tell you is that "firen mah lazer" and "liek mudkips" are both part of the lolcat fad... so if you just google "lolcat" you'll figure out (sort of) what's going on.

Also, sometimes it's best to be on the outside looking in.
David: if you're talking about just making a level with that entrance, you have to place a ghost house tile on the overworld. That's the only way I know to do it in Lunar Magic.

EDIT: Yep, I'm wrong. I always matched tilesets, so I never made that connection. Thanks DJ. (Don't listen to me.)
Pikmin 2.

Which is better, SMW or SMW 2 (YI)?
Hm... in four years...

90% of local moderators will have given up or become full moderators/administrators, while 90% of Full Mods/Admins will have left.

75% of current users will be inactive. The remaining 25% will either be completely new to this or be jaded misanthropes after dealing with four more years of spam.

SMW Hacking will not advance much in the way things can be done, but the quality of approved hacks will increase tremendously due to a larger number of hack submissions. Also the admins/mods will be so sick of bad corner tiles, bad Yoshi GFX, and stacked munchers that offenders will be permabanned.

The site will branch out to include hacking of YI and DKC, though it will be pretty small in 2012. Naturally they'll change the name of this to "Super Mario Central" or "Super Nintendo Central," though the domain name might remain. The first few hacks of YI and DKC will suck because good hackers will STILL be working on releasing demo versions of their latest SMW hack called "Super Overused Title World," or learning how to ASM the newest games...

S.N.N. will release "Keytastrophe Demo XVI"

pieguy will reach his 20,000th post.

comicmischief will reach his 50,000th post.

The Hack Removal Log will be updated three times daily.

The maturity level of current (2008) users will be stunning, because most of them will now have to have jobs, vote, and feed themselves. (The ones who already do this will suddenly have to feed their parents.) Free time will disappear except for the newest users, of which the average age will be 11. Each of these 11 year olds will know ASM like the backs of their hands, but they will have big heads and laugh every time someone says a naughty word. Also, they'll think their parents are the biggest morons in the world and make sure we all know it.

carol will have reprogrammed the game so much that it plays exactly like Metal Gear Solid 4.

5% of users will put "SMW Hacking" in the previous experience portion of their resumes.

That's all for now... yeah some of these were just silly and/or pessimistic... but you never know.

EDIT: Wow, bad timing. Just as I post the thing about S.N.N., I find he just uploaded his final demo! Thanks for ruining my joke, man...
And just yesterday I thought you would never upload it! You read my mind. Cool. Creepy.

I'm downloading soon as I get home...

Luigi. Funny how easy it is to win when the competition goes away!

Vanilla or Chocolate?

Willy Wonka! (The Gene Wilder version, of course.)

Fruits or vegetables?
20 million views. Up at the top left corner of the "rope thingy" that has everyone who's online...

Anyway, An00bis, that's a really conservative guess. I'm saying more like 80 million views, 20 million of which will be confused single men in their thirties who meant to type .com instead of .net...
Yup. On the Overworld Editor, find the dialog box for "Boss Sequence Messages." There should be 9 slots - one for each castle, then 2 for Bowser (front and back door). Select which sequence you want and put in the level number for whichever level you use the Big Boo Boss in.

Don't use the level number of the ROOM Big Boo is in, but the level number on your overworld map... so if you the boss is in room 1CC, but you start in 105, use 105.

The only issue I can think of is that if your Big Boo Boss isn't actually in a castle, then the sequence will look weird because it will show the castle. I don't know how to fix things beyond that...

I'm currently working on a hack (I posted a screenshot a week or two ago), but it's not far enough along for me to create a decent thread yet. However, I plan to eventually include my own custom music for this hack... maybe not in the first demo, but eventually. (If I did it now, I'd have to create way too many songs for a small amount of levels. Just not worth it yet.)

This is a midi file for a track I would use... I wouldn't be able to use this as is, of course. It's probably way too large and/or complex. But I'm giving you a link to it here so you can check it out and give me some feedback before I have to start putting some serious work into addmusic. Is this, stylistically, a good direction to do in? My hack is going to be on the silly side, naturally.

EDIT: I realized reading this that it sounds like I'm asking for hack-specific advice, and no one has really seen anything beyond the first screen (if you were lucky enough to catch it in the first screenshot thread). So general tips are better. Provided anyone will respond to this at all, ever.

Is it set to reveal on event 0? Event 0 is activated from the start, and it sounds like you want it to activate after level one.
Facebook.

Father Time or Mother Nature?
Hmm... it's been years since I had an all-night video game party. Nowadays we do Settlers of Catan 'till 3 in the morning, or watch old movies and eat junk food. Ah, to be young and, well, young again.
