This seems like a bit of a taboo topic, but I can't help but ask—is it possible to edit this gimmicky stage in some way? I'd like to incorporate the timer-based mechanic into a level. Opening the layer 1 data of the unique sub-levels via their address is easy enough, but saving that in a usable manner seems impossible to a noob like me. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I was asking in a VLDC context, thank you for the reply. I'll definitely have to downsize the idea!

On the other hand, it's the best track in the game.

Yeah, I always wondered how you're supposed to merge tiles in YY-CHR. I wanted to make some tools to assist in merging two GFX files and also in recoloring them, but I didn't have enough time to make them. Maybe I will see if I can make them a thing during this week, so lot of people can benefit from it. And of course, whatever else that it might be hard to people do, but I haven't thought in anything else other than tile merging and recoloring. (I'm open for suggestions!)

That sounds really useful!
Not sure why but it reminds me of the Cave of the Past in Earthbound. Impressive

Yeah, I definitely knew exactly why I was thinking that, not sure why I decided to make it sound vague.
you saw nothing.

I have already asked about recoloring, but I have a doubt about it yet.
In the first place of VLDC9, most pixels of the graphics were changed for black pixels.
This doesn't break the rules?
What did that level not be illegal?

You can merge palette colors. Multiple instances of black there are OK, to my understanding.
In VLDC9 those are green door levels, yeah?

The second screenshot in the OP shows mario standing on a birdie bridge. Are they not animated?
The big problem with dinos is that they take up a gorillion tiles in the all too valuable SP4 slot. Props for making them work
How might I go around avoiding this annoying flashing due to exanimated palette and tile simultaneously? Would I have to make a unique frame for the actual fire sprite with different colors, rather than animating the palette? But then in that case, color depth is being reduced...

I hate to say this, but doesn't the castle wall candle graphic come with a gray background? I'm not sure that can be merged with any other tiles...
I think this would be quite novel if the ground+bushes were on layer two, scrolling constantly to the right at a rate slightly higher than the autoscroll, as it was in SMB3.
ExAnimations use the strange uncompressed exgfx 60, etc. which don't show up in Lunar Magic as far as I'm aware. Definitely a cause for YYCHR.
I'm down for a round 1 loss. This is single elimination, yes?
I'm a big fan of the "gold ore" as well.
You can also remap background tiles with ease using the rather obvious "Remap" button on the layer 2 editor that I took way too long to notice
I second this; the snow level looked really neat.
