Hey so I'm pretty new to asar, but I managed to learn a little about how to patch the smw rom from these forums.
However I seem to have broken some of the graphics by patching retry.asm into my game. The patch worked, however the title screen, as well as Mario's sprite are glitched. The title screen looks like a mess of pixels, but Mario's sprite is only glitched when he jumps, or dies. When Mario jumps or dies, his sprite is changed to a yellow hit-box with diagonal lines. The only modifications to the game prior were simple Lunar Magic edits, and an increase in ROM size.
Any idea where I went wrong?

EDIT: It also appears power ups placed in level (mushroom) are also broken. Instead of a mushroom I am greeted with a black box with a large orange X.

I read the readme and thought I applied the patch correctly.

- Downloaded patch and extracted content to asar folder.
- Placed SMW.smc (with LM edits) into the asar folder
- Opened asar, wrote the patch name, then ROM name
- Asar said patch was applied successfully

I loaded the game to test, and sure enough the retry system worked properly.. though with these odd graphical glitches.

What's also interesting is that now when I load the ROM into LM, the top and bottom half of the Yoshi coin in the Map16 editor is replaced with a really cool custom "death block" graphic, which I believe was in Lord Pickle World.

I did load other ROM hacks into LM to get an idea of how you ROM hack veterans ensure proper sprite timings, and check out customs gfx, but I have no idea why this would effect anything.

That's really strange. Try redownloading everything (ROM, patch, even Asar and LM if needed) and try again.



Redownloaded everything and patched to an older backup. Works fine now. Thanks for your help.
I recently downloaded the smb3 pipe scroll blocks, and managed to get everything working except for horizontal pipes. Vertical pipes work fine, as do the turn corners. I just can't seem to enter any pipes horizontally.

From what I can tell, all asm files were added correctly.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or have an idea where I could start trouble shooting?

You mean GreenHammerBro's screen scrolling pipes? The horizontal pipes require a special patch, fixes.asm, in order to make them work.
