*Yet another lengthy post*

Wow, I thought I was the only one my age (16) who watched this. Also, Aiyo, it was on Animal Planet at 8:30 (East coast time, since I don't know where "heaven" is) on Fridays (for new episodes) and other times of the day (reruns), but the season just ended, so no new episodes for a while. Give it a try, Aiyo. Lately, it's been on a LOT, so you'll probably see some of the more recent episodes... I think you'd like it, though.

It's one of the only things I like on TV nowadays... To be honest, I've only been watching it two months. Thanks, Orbis, for making this topic, because I didn't want to embarrass myself. >_<

Also, don't worry about not understanding what's going on or who's who. A narrator explains things. (Don't they usually explain things in animal shows?) In a way, you'll see that meerkats are sort of like... well... people! (Only they're better.) >_>

*MASSIVE SPOILERS if you have not seen the recent episodes... should've put this warning here before, so sorry if I ruined anything.*

-

Yeah, Mozart and Kinkajou died, and their sister Whoopie got lost when they were escaping from the Commandoes (she's probably dead, too.) Starsky meerkat family = gone. And to think, Mozart could've made it if the Commandoes didn't have to fight against the Whiskers... (she ran away, and if there was no battle, there was a chance she'd be welcomed in since she was accompanied by one of the Commandoes' meerkats.) :(

Also, a little while ago, Flower (former dominant female of Whiskers) died trying to protect the den from a snake. That also meant that since Rocket Dog came into power, Zaphod had to step down from dominant male ranking since he was father of most of the Whiskers, including Rocket Dog. Meerkat Manor can be pretty sad sometimes... and despite their cuteness, they can be aggressive warriors.

Now, we have Zappa led by Punk and Houdini, Whiskers led by Rocket Dog, the new Splinter Aztec family (As Orbis said. I stand corrected, if that's the case. I watch everything with subtitles since my ears are selective, so yeah) that split from Whiskers, led by Maybelline, and the Commandoes led by Hannibal and Nikita... I think. (Not entirely sure about the Commandoes...) Just so you know, the Zappa leaders are tough though they've only been leading for a few months, and the Commandoes are all-around war-crazy (they charge into battle the moment they see an outsider.)

When I had to explain Meerkat Manor to my mom, I think she got the impression that it was pretty violent... It's not DBZ-violent, but meerkats do fight quite a bit... and there is some death... um, she doesn't like it. I have NO idea why I'm putting that out there, but I think it's weird.

I can't pick a favorite meerkat. I think Zaphod ranks pretty high up there, though, since he's done so much for the Whiskers, and in spite of his old age, he's a healthy meerkat. (He can still run, haha.) Also, Lola of the Zappa... she was dominant, but Punk overthrew her, and she was allowed to stay, so now she takes care of the pups.

Yeah... I'm done... :X *is tempted to ask when the next season starts, but no one really knows* Meerkat Manor FOR THE WIN!

Go to Sprite Editor Mode (Lakitu icon) and move Mario over where Yoshi's house is. As long as he's on a path or level/house/whatever, he won't get stuck.

*Will return to edit after examining screenshots and other replies to point out the good points and areas that could use improvement.* (Ah, never mind... I'll reserve this spot and wait for your next update. Everything's been found. I can't believe I didn't even notice the OW perspective was off in a few places... Bluemoon points that out well, so there's no need for me to mention it. I need some coffee.)

Oh, and I like the brown castle, but it looks like the bush around the castle is a little discolored along the bottom. Don't worry, though, that's easy to fix.

Edit: My other post was really long and would make for an outlandishly crazy edit. If I have anything to say about what can be fixed so I can keep my promise of returning to edit this post, it's that if you want to keep the vines, attach the top to something so they don't seem like they're floating, and maybe tweak them a bit so they don't look cut-off at the bottom, or simply just attach something to the bottom. (Or, if you want to get really into it, make a whole nest that you can climb on with wasps or angry falcons chasing you so it literally IS the Nest of Evil! :D But that would take a while.) You could copy a GFX file and resave it as ExGFX so you can change a few things while using some of its original graphics without affecting all the other levels that use those GFX, but it's up to you. Hacks aren't fun to make if it becomes all work, right? Well, unless you like work...

You should be able to insert multiple ExGFX files at a time, but there are a few things you need to make sure you do or it turns to mush:

1. Extract (red mushroom) and reinsert (green mushroom) the original GFX before you use ExGFX. No exceptions. (If you mess up on this, you'll probably have to export your levels and palettes, and redo your music and hex edits on a clean ROM.)
2. Don't overwrite pages 0-2 or 10 and 11. (It can still be fixed without restarting, but it's tedious.)
3. If there's a Map16 file included, press F3 on a blank page to load it. If you're running short on space, paste them on another page without overwriting other things. (Paste over the 4x4 blue blocks on pages 3-F for the foreground, and 12-1F for the background.)
4. F9 is your friend. Press F9 after making changes to Map16 that you want to keep.
5. If the FG and BG were getting mixed up literally, then remember that BG1 is tiles 100-17F, and FG3 is tiles 180-1FF when you're building it.
6. If there's a custom palette, then load that. If both things you're using have different palettes, then you're going to have to copy colors from one to the other. This can be a pain sometimes, especially if both palettes need the same line(s).

Also - if you're using custom music in your hack, you should probably put that in first, (expand to 1MB and insert music) since using ExGFX expands your ROM to 2MB, at which you can't add music. I hope this helps.

If none of those are the case, then use the SMW Clean ROM verifier on the ROM you originally downloaded to make sure it's clean. If it isn't, you'll have to find one that is clean.

...To answer your question, you can continue your hack, just not with the mess. :) (I edit way too much.)

I use Hexecute RC7, and you don't need to resize the window. Even if you do, it's still organized. The addresses/offsets always go up like this: x00, x10, x20, x30 etc. You can even customize the colors and the font size to make it easier to read. I'll link to it if you want to try it.

EDIT: http://www.zophar.net/trans/transutils/Hexecute-3.0-RC7-install.exe

(Well, Boing is right about Translhextion... but it's a strain on my eyes... and Ctrl+F can always be used to find the right offset, but I don't care. D:)

I've seen a few topics floating around recently that bother me (verbally explicit in my opinion, since they're disgusting and brand horrible images into my head like an iron) and there's no option to mark something for moderation. There are PMs, but then the report would get lost under a pile of trash.

Erm... if this helps you understand what I mean: (abridged, but no words are changed. I bolded the part I'm talking about since I've seen a little in this on the forums recently)

I won't name names, but there's one topic in the Talk forum that hasn't been moderated yet, and it's blatantly obvious which one it is, and I don't feel like repeating its name. If you know which one I'm talking about, it's not a debate on whether it's acceptable in society, either, which sounded to me like it should've been because of how the topic creator started it. Instead, it turned into... ugh. It makes me feel uncomfortable that people are expressing that kind of perverted mentality. (I'm paranoid of this kind of behavior, and I have my reasons. Don't ask.) There are OTHER places on the internet where this is acceptable, but Techokami made it clear that SMWC will NOT tolerate it. (I'll link the topic to any mod/admin who doesn't know what I'm talking about, and let them judge for themselves whether it fits the criteria for deletion, but I'm fairly certain they can find it.)

*Flame shield: Also, before anyone decides to flame me saying things like, "If you don't like the topic, don't click it," remember that there are young children that use this site frequently (many are 10-14, some are even younger, and not all of them know what they're getting into when they click these topics) and I don't think it's funny that these topics are floating around like this. (I'm 16 and I'm disgusted by it, and I'm sure there are older people who would be sickened by it as well.) Also, remember rules #25 and #26: "Relation to the original topic decreases with every single post" and "Any topic can be easily turned into something totally unrelated," so something completely innocent can turn into scary, perverted crap. Just because this is the internet, it doesn't mean that everyone likes that stuff, even though a lot of people seem to think it's okay, but I don't.

So, in short, I'm asking if you would like to implement a "Mark topic/post for moderation" feature in the future, just for peace of mind, since some bad topics are elusive. If a new site is still in the works, perhaps wait until then. Thanks in advance.

(Okay. I missed the inferno.) I have suggestions for fixing up the title screen so that you don't get so many complaints about it. Remember, I'm not forcing anything upon you, but if you plan to introduce this to the masses, it needs to be smoothed out a little. Also... *Extremely long post warning*

(Also, I'd like to point out that you're at least trying to make this the best you can. It's in its early stages, and problems are generally expected in beta. Just try to be a little less adamant, and don't let the flames get to you. Things take time, and you may have been too excited about posting your progress that you just missed a few things. That's understandable, and I'm not going to harass you for it. You have potential, but you just need to give yourself a little more time in general. You're not a bad hacker by any means. A little patience can go a long, long way. If you look in the trash can, and watch a crappy 105 edit, with the topic creator's post count being 1/1, and having a cyan/gray/brown name, THEN you'll know what a bad hacker really is...or a spammer. You have my full support, TRUY.)

I think it's most important that there are no blank spaces between the lava and the walls/ground around it since floating lava is rather... unnatural. Either using jointed ledges to connect the large land blocks or expanding the ground so it doesn't curve right under the lava will fix that. Also, you can widen the bone in YY-CHR so that it can look good next to both lava and water. If anything, just don't make the ground edges square, since it won't look like land at all.

About the title, SUPER MARIO in: Mountain Mario, it could be improved if it were changed to "Mountain Mario" in big letters. Again, YY-CHR is your friend. Set it to 2bpp GB so that you can see the letters that make up "Super Mario World" and just delete the ones you won't use and draw "Mountain."

Though it's not as problematic, the translucent blocks turn into checkered platforms when you hit them for a brief second in the beginning of the video. If you change the sprite settings of SP4 to GFX04, it will be fixed. Also, one of the curved ground ledges had a speck of dirt around it when it should be air.

Lastly, you didn't go obscenely overboard with cement blocks, since there are some areas where it looked like you needed either them or a small ledge because you filled a lot of space. Find the cement block in YY-CHR, and replace it with a block that looks appealing, such as the block from the Fancy Castle ExGFX set, or SMB3, or even just draw one that you thought up. It's not that cement blocks are bad, it's just that SMW cement blocks look ugly.

You don't have to change the level's layout to fix the graphical anomalies in your video, but don't move any sprites or platforms, since Mario might die if you do. If you smooth it out a bit by joining ledges rather than leaving them blocky, more people will like it.

*Optional things that will help out a lot, as well as some praise:
I personally like the starry border you added, and I think it's good you remembered to "copyright" it. When you get around to the logo, change the Nintendo Presents to "TRUY presents" or "The Real Ultimate Production" if you can fit it. (The last one is kind of witty. :D)

If you're planning on adding music, then just remember that the title screen uses the overworld bank. (11-18 in addmusic, plus the stuff that's already there.) Pick a song that just booms with adventure and has a mountainy tone to it, like the Kirby 64 Rock Star Stage Select song. You can always add excitement to a hack, even if you don't think there's room for any more.

If you like to draw, make your own personal ExGFX that fit the mountain theme. It's easy to imagine ones that look exponentially better than Super Mario World's graphics, but you have to set tons of time aside for this alone. It will add your own personal touch, though, and it adds soul to your hack. Don't worry if you don't think it will look that good - it's pixel art, so it can always be changed without traces of mess from before, and you can always make custom palettes to make it look even better. Heck, you can even make your own characters in place of existing ones! (Or you can just download ExGFX, but I prefer to make them from scratch.)

Well, if there's anything else I can do to help out, then PM me, TRUY. I hope you read my post with an open mind and are considering some of the changes I proposed, but again, I'm not forcing you to do anything, and I'm not trying to make you feel bad. You can still make a great hack without custom anything, but I seriously think you could make this special if you put something of your very own into it. Keep working on this, though, and don't be discouraged by other people's negative comments. Good luck, and have fun, and if it ever feels like work, which it shouldn't, take a breather for a while. Maybe you'll be inspired by something and do something astonishing with this project that will catch everyone off guard.

Edit: If I seem a bit harsh, I don't mean to, and I'm sorry. But, you're absolutely right - ROM hacking is a hobby. It's a leisure activity. You're supposed to have fun, so that explains the paragraph above this one. :)

Aww, it was ruined. I was going to spoil it earlier but then I read the last sentence, so I PM'd Leviaga a little while ago congratulating him/her on this, but it looks like I jinxed it by saying, "Let's see how far this will go." At least I sent the PM before Boom stepped in so it didn't look like I had no idea what it was beforehand. XD

*Places tombstone with the words: Here lies the best joke topic in a long time.* Well, who knows. Some people might not read past the first post and fall for the trap. Maybe.

On the topic of colds, now that it's already been spoiled: I haven't had a cold in a little more than a month. My former school was overcrowded (around 1,000 people and the halls were pretty narrow; average class size of 25) and everyone was always sick, so I had two colds within 6 weeks this year. The cold may not be that dangerous, but it's annoying as heck. Luckily, I haven't had the cold since my last day at that school.

Even if it's not that big of a deal, get well soon. (That goes out to anyone who gets the cold, which is... well... everyone.) The cold stinks, and the only thing more annoying (even though it's not a disease) is head lice, so just be grateful it's not that. Nothing more aggravating than a ton of tiny bugs that make you have to cover your head in mayonnaise to get rid of. Also, kudos again to you on this topic, Leviaga.

The graphics are quite calming to look at. I like patterns in the foregrounds in both screenshots. There are no status bar palette problems, so that's another plus.

The first screenshot is a little empty, so it's tough to judge, but I like the palette. As for the second screenshot, Shy Guy's face has blotches of red on its mask. If it's not blood, then maybe you should correct it in YY-CHR.

It looks far above average, and I like the unique visual style. I'll be waiting for more screenshots.

Edit: As for the screenshot below, it's mighty impressive, but the munchers have odd stems. Other than that, I can't complain. This hack has a lot of heart put into it - more than most of the other hacks I've seen recently. These graphics that you made by hand are amazing, and they fit well with both YI-style sprites and the SMW-style Mario. I hope when you make a demo, you lock it so no one can steal them, because that would be a shame.

Make a screen exit that leads to the place you want it to go, then place a 'teleport block' in the hole using Block Tool. The teleport block is included with Block Tool.

First, open the ROM in Block Tool. Then, open the calculator, and set it to hexadecimal. Type in where you want the block to go, then convert it to decimal. Then, in Block Tool, find the teleport block. Type in the number that the calculator gave you so that's where the teleport block will be placed in Map16, but make sure it won't overwrite an existing tile. Then, make the tile act like 25.

In the game, when you hit this block (or if you fall onto it, etc.) it should teleport you to the place you specified with the screen exit.

Well, make sure you have all the .dll files that are needed to run Block Tool. (I recommend you don't delete anything that it comes with. If you did, then redownload Block Tool and it will have everything.) If you get a message saying "Lunar Magic ASM hacks not installed, save a level" or whatever, just make sure you opened your ROM since Block Tool will ALWAYS show the blocks you inserted, regardless of whether or not you opened it that session.
