I've barely even done anything to my hack, and ALREADY, there's glitches!

All I did was modify the overworld. I haven't changed any levels AT ALL, and suddenly, I'm treated to this intro with weird sprites.

But what's worse is the fact that instead of it waiting for me to press B to continue, it continues on its own and plays the intro over and over and over again. It won't cut to the overworld like it's supposed to.

I wonder what happened???

From Onyx:
Go get the SMW Clean ROM Verifyer (tools section) and run that on your ROM to see if it is clean or not...

I did, and it's clean.
From darklink898:
Remember that if you do that, the intro must be in level 1C7.

I think the intro has to be on 1C5 (not 1C7! :lmao:) only if the first level is on a sub-map. But my hack's first level is on the overworld. So, I think I've got the right level.
You set that level as one of the Switch Palace levels.

I did? Hmmmm...Never thought of that. I'll look into it.

UPDATE: darklink898 was right. I went into the Overworld Editor and changed the Yellow, Red, and Blue Switch Palaces from Level 0 to Level 13B, and now the problem is fixed! Thanks, darklink898! ^^

ummm... what about the bramble scramble demo, i played it and it was wayyyy to hard. i was using savestates every 5 seconds

I second that motion!

It's full of lag, there's only one track, it says "Bad ROM" when I play it in ZSNES, and Recover Lunar Magic won't unlock it. Sounds like pretty legitimate reasons to delete a hack to me. I highly doubt you people would be "deleting a functional game just because you don't like it" or whatever. ...'Cause it MALfunctions! :explosion:

Considering there's already a ton of Super Mario Bros. 3 stuff on here, I'm surprised this isn't already up here, but...

You know how in SMB3, in part of World 5-2 and much of World 7-1 and 7-6, there are wraparound levels with pipes in the background? Well, I want that pipe BG for my hack's World 3, which will take place in a sewer! I tried to rip it myself using YY-CHR and whatnot, but I suck at that stuff. Plus I'm lazy! So...is there anyone else here who already did it who I can mooch off of talk to? =P ;P :P

If this site were up to me, this jackass would've been banhammered on the spot.

We play (and make hacks of) Super Mario World 1 here to ESCAPE POLITICS, DAMN IT!!! We don't want politics following us here with user PETA and his stupid-ass little agenda.

Besides, PETA sucks, anyway. What this guy is doing is no different from what the "stereotypical" PETA member does. They, as far as I can tell, are a bunch of f***ing douche bags who seem to promote "ethical treatment" of only the "cute" animals like dogs and cats at the expense of arthropods, sponges, arachnids, and even humans! :O So, the company name, which stands for "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals", is essentially a misnomer. Plus, they like to shove their beliefs down your throat, and some members are so extremist they're even against keeping dogs as pets! It's rumored that some members will actually go onto your property to take your pets, if you have any, though I highly doubt that's true since Bob Barker supports them and he put dogs and cats in animal shelters up for adoption on The Price is Right for many years... Either way, they're like feminists, only with animals. In short, this guy needs to G.T.F.O. and fast.

Not that I'm defending KFC; it's got that "redneck" air to it, which in my world is major DO NOT WANT-age!

...Oh yeah. I :heart: politics. I plan to register as a Democrat and hopefully run for president. And my comic strip, Life in FCHS, borrows from Doonesbury a little. So, there's plenty more where this rant came from. But don't ask me here, or I'll be a hypocrite to what I just said about this site being an escape from politics! And I don't want that! ^^; ^^; ^^;

I don't think you can. At least, not without reverse engineering the thing or somehow pumping FuSoYa for the source code and then reprogramming the thing...!

Just be happy you can change its tooltips. :)

EDIT: But what do I know? I'm just a n00b. Some of the people here who actually have more experience might know something...!

Is this problematic ledge on the very first screen?

I noticed that in numerous hacks, including my own and RAGB's Super Mario World: Return to Dinosaur Land, that if you use the Layer 2 Sink command and put Layer 2 objects on the very first screen, nothing happens. Stuff won't actually happen until you hit screen 0x1.

Also, with both Layer 2 Sink commands and Layer 2 Smash 1 and Smash 2, there are certain "break room" screens in which nothing happens on Layer 2, making it pointless to put stuff on Layer 2 in those screens.

You might want to open Layer 2 levels in a clean, unmodified ROM and study them to see the best screens to put stuff on.

From Edgar1205:

Is there a way to make the sprite not go out before i put foot in it?

Which sprite are you using to make that brown elevator???

If you're using sprite 0x62, it'll move automatically. If you're using sprite 0x63, which could be that small brown elevator or a big checkered one, it should, I think, stay put until you step on it.

I think the answer to #23 is obvious...

Most likely to be a politician: Me, myself, and I! Seriously. If the thread for that "Super Mario World: Destroy KFC!" hack is still here, go to my post and see the number I did on the original poster! And there's plenty more where that came from... >XD

From boing:
It would be nice if users had the option to delete reviews from thier own hack...

DeviantArt has a similar feature to this (comment hiding), and it's been abused way too many times to justify its use. All you have to do to know how high the abuse potential of a feature like this would be to users here who can't take criticism is go to Google and type in "Snapesnogger site:encyclopediadramatica.com".

If a review bothers you that much, give a mod a PM or something.

And I disagree with B.B. Link. As I've said before, again on DeviantArt, no one should ever be forced or obligated into doing anything, even something as small as commenting on a hack. Be grateful for what you DO get!

And that's my 2ยข for the night...! :upset:

Sheesh! X( :crying: Oh well. At least I didn't get banned for what I said, as I feared I would. That's nice to know. ^^;

Okay. So I was, like, trying to add CSS to my profile so that all my posts would, like, have a pretty layout and stuff. I linked to this stylesheet...

...and THAT happened! The whole entire site turned red!

What do I put in my CSS so that only my posts here change color?

A GOOD THING TO KNOW WHEN MAKING LAYER 2 LEVELS:
The Layer 2 sprite commands have limits. Know them!

NOTICE: The following was found using half-assed research. Please correct me if I screwed up something.
  • All Layer 2 Smash and Scroll commands can be used when Layer 2 is a background. In fact, the original game used a Layer 2 Scroll 1 Range=5 command in room 4 of Bowser's Castle.
  • If you put a Midway Gate or pipe exit, or if you have a Ghost House with multiple entrances, make sure to have a Layer 2 command at every possible entrance. Otherwise, Layer 2 will do nothing!!!
  • Layer 2 Smash 1: Objects on screens 0 and 0x1 smash down every 5 seconds after they reset. Objects on screens 0x2-0x4 do nothing. Objects on screens 0x5-0x7 smash down immediately after they reset and get shifted down about a row from where you place them in Lunar Magic. Objects on screen 0x8 do nothing. Objects on screens 0x9 to the end smash very quickly and get shifted down about five rows from where you place them in Lunar Magic. This is why I don't make many levels that use the Smash 1 setting. X(
  • Layer 2 Smash 2: No shifting, thank God, but that says nothing about what you DO have to put up with. Objects on screens 0 through 0x3 hesitate a little, smash, reset, wait 5 seconds, then repeat. Objects on screen 0x4 do nothing. Objects on screens 0x5-0x8 hesitate, smash, reset, and repeat immediately. Screens 0x9 and 0xA are rest zones, and then objects on screens 0xB to the end hesitate and smash very quickly.
  • Layer 2 Smash 3: The easiest to use, but also the most boring. Objects on all screens hesitate, move very slowly, then smash.
  • Layer 2 Scroll (all of them): The position you put the objects in in Lunar Magic represents the peak of their scroll. Also, the "Range" number on the sprite command represents how many rows they move.
  • Layer 2 Scroll 1: If the range is 12, you must click on the door with the 1 on it, go to Layer 1,2 initial position, and select "BG=00". Otherwise, you'll get garbage. Also, everything shifts down 1 row from where you put it.
  • Layer 2 Scroll 4: If you use "Smash Range=11", then all you're getting is a glorified Layer 2 Smash 1 command that works for the whole level and doesn't shift anything.
  • Layer 2 Falls: Layer 2 horizontal AND vertical scrolling must both be on "none". This command will cause you to get stuck on the first screen, and layer 2 will just fall a bit. I really don't know what use this command would have.
  • Layer 2 Scroll Sideways: Can only be used on vertical levels. The level won't scroll horizontally. The Sideways Short command will only scroll things the length of your emulator, but the Sideways Long command will scroll things the entire horizontal length of the level.
  • Layer 2 On/Off: Make sure to put an On/Off Switch when you use this!!! Especially if spikes are involved...! :O
  • Layer 2 Sink/Rise (all of them): Will not do anything on Screen 0. There is also a limit to how far everything sinks/rises. The range for Layer 2 Sink Short is about two screens, then a one-screen break, then another four screens, and then they stay sunk. Needless to say, don't expect many Layer 2 Sink levels in my hack. The range for Layer 2 Sink Long is the whole entire length of the level! When you use Layer 2 Rise Up, the place you put objects in with Lunar Magic represents the highest point that they'll rise. They'll be set about 12 rows lower than that when you encounter them in the game. The range for Layer 2 Rise Up is the same as Layer 2 Sink Short. And finally, Layer 2 Give Some is completely useless. It just causes Layer 2 to hesitate a little when you step on it, then reset when you step off.

And there you have it. That's all I know on Layer 2 stuff. Hope you learned something. Now I have to go remake my test level, as it was a normal Layer 1 level that was longer than the 0x10 screen limit that Layer 2 levels have! >_>

EDIT on December 5, 2007: Scroll down, and you'll see that user hebesphenomegacorona has found a use for "Layer 2 Falls". Thanks! ^^

QUESTION: Is there a tut anywhere on how to add mist/fog?

ANSWER:
The Price is Right 1980's-1998 Three Strikes NO Symbol

That should've been one of the first things you ever learned with Lunar Magic!!! >_<

Click on the poison mushroom and switch to the "Ghost House 1" or "Ghost House 2" tileset. Then click on the blue box with little fish inside, locate the drop-down box that says, "Layer 3 Options", and select "Tileset Specific". Not that hard.

Now, I have seen a few hacks that were able to put fog in other tilesets, but that's beyond my realm of experience. :(
