Hey people, I am back! For the record, I won't be doing stuff as often as I used to due to college life, but I am mainly woking up my asm skills. And incase you wanted to know, yes, I still own a copy of my old crappy romhack. I now use it to test asm stuff since I don't yet have another romhack.
A vanilla hack can be good if the level design is awesome. And remember, you CAN edit boss battles in lunar magic. You can do whatever you want with Reznor, Lemmy, Wendy, and Boo. For the rest of the boss battles, you can only add sprites, but you can also do stuff like make things slippery, or make iggy's platform invisible by adding the Ludwig sprite. You can also add Reznor to the iggy battle (I suggest only adding 1 reznor).
I agree. Here is my opinion on chocolate hacks:
1. If you have custom graphics, use the original graphics for at least one sprite in at least one level.
2. If you have custom blocks, don't make them the norm of the level, keep in some of the tiles from the original smw (like one of the levels should have a background from smw and ground tiles from smw)
3. If you have custom sprites, be sure to keep at least some of the sprites from smw
4. This is something I would really want in hacks. If there is custom music, I don't mind, but it would be nice to keep in at least one song from the original (preferably, the castle theme. For at least one castle, the hack should use the original castle theme).

This way, chocolate hacks will still get a Mario feel to it.
Well, of course level design is #1 importance. But that is not the topic of the thread. The topic is about hacks losing the feel of smw due to too much chocolating.
If I may make a suggestion, try to use sprite memory setting 0E, it might solve the problem. I also used to encounter it, but I messed with the sprite settings. Fyi, Rezznor does not have to be in mode 7, though you will have small fireballs and no breaking bridge if you do it in mode 1.
Obligatory River Song quote: "Spoilers." BTW, the Doctor is alive, he faked his death using the Teselecta.
And this is one of the reasons I still keep ZSNES with me.
I got part of a level finished. I hope you like the sideways munchers!

The level is Yoshi's Island 2 (I know, too lazy to rename it)
