Well I'm a new dude here, I thought I might hack Super Mario World as its one of my favorite games. So yeah, hi everybody.
Thanks guys its nice to know there are nice people here...=D
Well, I'm a new dude here at the site. I've been learning html and css for a while from my bro, but for now I think I'll just watch you guys make layouts so I can learn a thing or two from people with experience.
In level 106, Yoshi's Island 2, there are a lot of koopas, 8 I think, all next to each other. Wouldn't that mean the game would slow down? (I saw it in another tread)

Ok, well, I'm a new dude here...as I said. So, I'm going to start from scratch with this html and css thing. I guess I'll just try to make a layout with a blue background...in other words, almost as easy as it possibly gets. So please point out any flaws in the code.

<table>
<td>

<style type="text/css">.shortbg

{background : url('http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/3589/layoutbg.jpg') #000; background-repeat: repeat;}

</style>

</table>
</td>

EDIT: And THIS is what happened when I used it:

ABSOLUTLY NOTHING.

What did I do wrong?

1. Don't space HTML tags, they create annoying line breaks.
2. The whole layout is poorly coded. There is no table height or width, your code broke tables (closing TD tags always come before closing TABLE tags), and you didn't even assign your table a class.
3. Not really a must, but most people put style tags in the beginning of their code.

Anyway I fixed the errors that you made and it looks like this:

This is a table.

Just quote my post for the code.

Thanks for fixing the code man.

EDIT: Or, instad of waiting, I could look at the source code an completely steal the code...but who would do that lol?

You encourage reverse-engineering? Awesome! I will now blatantly steal take a look at your layout code and try to find what went wrong with mine.

Ok, let me try again, without a table this time. I'm doing this all off the top of my head, trying to remember, so there are probably some mistakes. I'm just a beginner so please don't be too hard.

<style type="text/css">.shortbg

{background : url('http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/3589/layoutbg.jpg') #000; background-repeat : repeat; border : 2px black solid; padding : 2px; font-family : Impact, Verdana, Geneva, Sans-serif;}

</style>

Alright, since my layouts never work, can I request a layout to see how "it's done"? I'd like a Donkey Kong Country related layout, maybe Jungle Hijinx, with a transparent textbox over it. Thanks in advance.

Temple Guard: Thank you so much mate. I really appreciate it; I think I'll learn a thing or two from it, most definitely.

Again, thanks a bundle mate.

EDIT: I got tired of waiting, so I looked at the source code and just took the code. I hope you don't mind...but after all, you did make it for me anyways, didn't you? =P

EDIT 2: I also addded a font-weight (attribute, element, forgot what they're called) and changed the font color, just to let you know. Plus, I gave you credit.

Well I'm a beginner too, but I do know this. If you see a picture of Mario standing still in yychr, that picture is obviously what is going to show up on yychr. So you would probably have to post a picture of SMB3 Mario over SMW Mario's picture...and probably make sure it doesn't cut in to anything else.

Plus, there are the colors. You would have to edit the palette SMW Mario uses to line it up with the palette SMB3 Mario uses...tricky. To save a ton of work, you could ask permission for an author of a SMB3 Mario hack to use as a base hack. (A hack you edit because stuff you need is already in there)

I think I misunderstand you, but any normal sprite you want to make a boss needs more than a value on the RAM Map changed...I think it needs usually a chunk of ASM. So yeah I guess some of them are custom sprites.

I've been seeing this a lot in ExGFX especially, and it gets me wondering if ExGFX moderators edited all the "GIVE ME CREDIT OR ELSE"'s in the ExGFX section. This is just out of pure curiosity, because I also saw a thread that told people not to demand credit any more...so, did ExGFX moderators edit them?
Alright, I don't want to be a n00b without any knowledge of html/css...can somebody please, for starters, post code of a SIMPLE, SIMPLE layout that just makes the background a light blue, that's it, so I can learn a few things? I would be very grateful.

I don't think you have any idea on how to use CSS. You're supposed to assign your table the class name you gave to the class with the edited hyperlinks.

I don't think you have any idea of how to use proper grammar. You're supposed to include a main verb in a sentence, and use an apostraphe if you contract. Furthermore, you don't have to criticize him, he was just asking what he did wrong.
