Why would we even want to disallow locked hacks? Like GY mentioned, it's a feature of LM, and it doesn't even change the quality of the hack.
If something like that were to be implemented, I could foresee a lot of unnecessarily bloated file sizes due to people using the same ROM type as DWTLC. :/

MEGAMAN REBORN (GAMEPLAY DEMO)
by YamiMario
This was by no means a bad hack at all. I rather enjoyed it, in fact, despite its shortness (which could be seen as a rejection issue, but I don't think it warrants it much due to the style of the hack.) I only found two issues with the hack:

A bit of an odd coloration. Not an issue that warrants removal, but since I'm writing the log, might as well put it up here.
The major issue that I'm removing the hack for, however, is the fact that despite being unable to see it on the status bar, there is a time limit to deal with. It came as a nasty surprise, and... despite having definitely taken my time and searched a couple places to figure this one out, the issue's there, and it's got the potential to cripple things.
Just patch up the time limit issue (and the miscoloration, but I'm not picky about graphics issues unless they're GODAWFUL) and you've got yourself an approval, in my eyes.

For Easter, Labor Day(?), Thanksgiving (usually), and Christmas, there's a large family get-together.
For smaller holidays like Independence Day and Halloween, however, I just visit my grandmother and go watch some fireworks / just sit outside on my laptop and give out candy. I'm sure you can put together which activity goes with which holiday.

Still, though... driving is a dangerous enough task that only the absolute best of both drivers and multitaskers should use a phone in the car even for things like saying you'd be a bit late to something. Even then, there's a chance it could cause trouble, though...
I'm not QUITE sure how laws work on that in Pennsylvania, though I'm pretty sure New Jersey has a law against it now.

Originally posted by S.N.N.Notice a common, bolded word in all of these? Sadly, I do not see it possible to gain a skill from MSU1. As stated, those who can use it well will, and those who can't will create a hack filled with dreadful J-Pop tracks I'm sure. My point was that the only person who showed any skill in regards to MSU1 was byuu.
As has been mentioned in the thread before, it's quite possible to actually create your own video/audio content for use with the MSU1, and it also functions as extra storage for levels and such. It can allow one to take their skills farther than they could without the addition. Then again, I suppose that wouldn't be gaining a skill but instead improving upon one... eh.
Hell, one could even think up more creative uses for it, I'm sure! It doesn't have to be limited to audio and video only.
...And yes, I actually posted. Get in your bomb shelters, doomsday, etc. etc.

To be fair, though... actually designing well-built levels that people will want to play does take a certain level of skill, despite how easy it may be to carry out construction of the level.

I think the whole point of the matter is that SNN kinda made a mistake mentioning MSU1 requiring no skill ... and I do have to agree with Xkeeper there.
People will just grab music and slap it in if it's made easy enough. It's been done with addmusic, and if it ever was made simple enough, it would happen with MSU1 as well. There are people who will actually compose their own music and make generally better use of the expansion, as I'd mentioned.
The paranoia over the expansion is ridiculously stupid as well, in my opinion. There's SNES flashcarts that continue to be created, and I don't hear people worrying much about that. It's an expansion like everything else that will actually exist. Years late or not; it still will serve the purpose hardware expansions served in the 1980s and 1990s: to extend the functionality of a system, to ease up limitations.
I'm sure people wouldn't complain about the rumble and RAM expansions for the DS, or even actual flashcarts.
As for Xkas, I'm honestly afraid to touch the patches lest they blow up in my face. Well, at least was - unfortunately, I don't do anything with Super Mario World anymore.
I'm not a very big fan of the Sonic hacking community either, for the record, but I won't really get into detail about that.
...And I noticed someone's screwing with Xk's layout. Really, is that necessary? :/

If all else fails, I've seen cheap USB numpads that you could try out. I actually did this back on my previous laptop... until one of its USB ports died.
Also, make sure that Fn+/ is actually your "numpad" + key. I wouldn't be surprised if some laptops had them set up differently.

A single glass of wine every New Year's. I think I actually was slightly affected by it in 2009, but I was starting to come up with a cold then anyway - that certainly couldn't have helped matters any.
I've had it on two other occasions - both when something ridiculously nerve-wrecking hit me, and I kept myself down to only a single glass. My intentions were just enough to take the edge, the extreme shakiness off. Both times, it actually worked for just that.
I don't really think they count so much as "adventures". I was trying to skype with people in 2009, but that hardly worked anyway since I was still stuck on 56k at the time.

I've emulated N64 games on my netbook without so much a hiccup in speed, and they don't heat up very much. (In both Windows XP and 7, actually... dunno about Linux, but considering my far more powerful laptop can hardly do SNES emulation in Linux...) In Windows, I believe PSX emulation is possible as well.

There also exists a port of bsnes (and a pre-compiled version, I believe... for Intel machines only - it's an older version, though) for Mac OS X as well, which would be useful for testing if a hack would work on the actual console due to its high degree of accuracy.
It will break on a large chunk of hacks that use Addmusic and its derivatives, however, thanks to bugs and improperly composed songs (that overwrite the echo buffer)... so I'd suggest keeping an emulator like ZSNES or Snes9x around.
(And personally, I find nothing wrong with only having new graphics and levels - it's actually the type of hack I enjoy the most, believe it or not.)
Last but not least, are you sure you're actually patching the ROM file and not just loading the IPS itself? It's definitely not an illogical mistake to make.

I thought I was the only one irritated by the "flavor" analogy. Huh.
I generally use my own terms when referring to a hack, depending on its style (albeit I honestly don't like to refer to a hack by its style at all, seeing as there's so much overlap potential):
I refer to what most others call "vanilla" hacks as classic hacks, though my scope expands beyond what was in the original game. Somewhat basic graphical hacking (see: Mario's Return, and other similar hacks) and other light modifications would fall into this category.
For lack of a better summary, they generally retain the classic Super Mario World feel, or don't deviate too far from it.
I generally refer to hacks that go "all-out" with new features as modern hacks. These would certainly require more than a few graphical changes to be done, such as custom sprites... and in some cases, custom music.
To summarize these up, they typically stray away from the Super Mario World feel, sometimes just far enough to be somewhat different and sometimes far enough to be nearly completely new.
As for handling overlap... it honestly depends on how much it feels like the original games or an older hack. I generally find referring to a hack by its style to be a pure mess since there are so many factors to take into account, however... (And as a result, my wording is a mess... how fun.)

Hell, I say go for it. Your Wario Land remakes are easily some of the best tracks I've heard, especially for when they were released. A couple of the tracks could use touching up, but I was thoroughly amazed how well SMW's instrument set worked with those songs.
I just hope this hack avoids the bugs with addmusic that TSRPR had. A shame, really... (especially if it's based off TSRP1-SNES, like I remember)

There's more that breaks it, I know this much - I've run into issues with music killing the hack despite the echo buffer value being $00, and not using the -se option. Really damned irritating since I don't know what the issue is, and for the time being I'm just resorting to fixing up said old hack by switching it over to SMW's music. (For those curious, it's in some of FPI's Wario Land ports. At least it works a bit better as is than the last release of the SWW demo...)
Then again, I don't know shit about anything beyond level and graphics editing so perhaps I shouldn't be chiming in. I haven't actually created anything in years, anyway...

Super Wario World - Demo II
(Preferably played in bsnes, but should work on any emulator.)
If you've somehow recently played the first demo of this that was floating around in 2007, there's not much new content in this release... so don't get too concerned. It's just a very highly polished re-release, which was sorely needed.
However, if you haven't, everything in this hack will be new to you. Either way, enjoy the demo... and please post your comments and suggestions (within reason, I'm not a coding genius) in this thread!
Also, please read the Release Info in its entirety.
And now, some screenshots!

And finally, here's a link to the IPS patch.
Enjoy, and please remember to leave feedback!
