I'd like to present my first ever attempt at a super mario world hack!

As the name suggests it's based in classic Gameboy games, and uses similar graphics.

I have a interesting story in mind, but I'm not ready to reveal it just yet.

Here are some screens: (hope they show up)

From a Kirby ice world

Good old Macro Zone, beware of ants!

Odd? Is color trying to disrupt the peacful world of Gameboy Land?

That's all I can show for now, thoughts?

Wow thanks for the warm welcome! I'll fix the color in the status bar.

Oh! What could this be?

It's getting rather hot! That lava is animated.
Thank you all for your nice comments!

Here is one of the enemies, gfx replacement for the small dinosaur.

With changed up fire.

Waddledoo squad!

Sorry I haven't had much time to post lately, I'll back with more tommorow!(hopefully)

It's hard to say how many levels right now, but I'd expect around 20 or more. I'm planning on keeping it pretty short, but I could change my mind.

I'm also unsure if I'll keep the original mario player gfx or not.

A cool feature I'm thinking of putting into the hack is to have points where you can choose where you want to go or what action you want to take, and that'll affect the story, and the ending.

For example you could choose to chase down a character or to ignore him, or you could enter the forest or the cave etc. So in one case you would take the regular exit(chase him!) and the other you'd take the secret exit (won't be actually secret but you know). So for the most part the point of a split path in the story will be obvious but at sometimes I may make the choice less obvious (like if you fall in a certain pit something could happen, but making the jump causes something else to happen).

I've been thinking of having 3 different endings: Good, bad, and cliffhanger.

Hope I explained that well. Yeah I’m still working on the story; I’ll reveal it soon.
I’m going away for Spring Break next week and won’t be posting for about a week or more, but feel free to comment on anything I revealed or to suggest anything you would think would fit well in this sort of hack(I’m open to all sorts of suggestions, as long as I like them). Also the name “Game Boy Adventure” isn’t planned to be the final name, once I got the story down I’ll probably rename it.

Oh yeah and the Scarfies from kirby are vertical electicity sprites with invisible "mario pass only" blocks above and below them.

Eh sorry for lack of updates I've been real out of it lately and lazy.
I still don't have much to show, just these:

Outer space level

Hornet infested level

@mootbooxle

Yeah I browsed the forums and studied some tutorials before I created my account. For about a month.
Wow thanks everyone, I'm glad you like my ideas :)

New pic:

Yep finally fixed the status bar, was bugging me.
Just one question for you guys does anything clash in this picture?

Yeah and when I need some testers I'll let you guys know.

EDIT: Yeah April fools image
Okay got some real pictures today:

First level, remind you of anything?

Yep that ball bounces.

Things have been going slow for this hack lately, I'll get a lot more done come this summer hopefully.

Once again thanks for all the support!
Thank you for the comments Broozer I'm glad you like the screens!

Uh oh underwater level!

I haven't thought up many enemies to put in this level yet. Torpedo Ted will most likely be one (graphics changed of course).

Oh yeah and I just noticed the slight cutoff oops! It'll be fixed.

Yep the water in that last screen is animated.

Also I would love it if someone made a user bar since I don't know how to make one myself.

I've been thinking of making the half-way point a bell for the SML2 levels, but not sure what I'll do for the exits.

I decided to take a crack at designing custom graphics for the hack:

I came up with this in about 30 minutes, probably not my best work but eh. What do you guys think?
First Vid:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TlBRuFN8eW4&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TlBRuFN8eW4&hl=en_US&fs=1&color1=0xcc2550&color2=0xe87a9f" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

From a pumpkin zone style level. No custom music yet added.

Yeah I see mario doesn't look the greatest, I'm still unsure what gfx I'll use for him.
Here's a Porcupuffer I drew:

Look how cute he is!
SilverSwallow is back from the dead...

Some GFX replacements:

A megaman rip does anyone recognize where it's from?

I know it's a bit late (like 4 months late) but I'll still respond to your comments!

@ tatanga
I'll just keep the regular spin jump most likely, and yeah I really love Super Mario Land 2 it was my first ever gameboy game which was also my first ever portable game!

@Martin9172
That joke bg would be the best thing ever wouldn't it if only it could be done lol!

@andy_k_250
Actually the mask enemies are simply tweaked yellow koopas, the turned out real similar to the original mask guys though.

@JDC
Yeah I'm still getting the hang of level designing.

@Error 52
Thanks for the sub! the next vid might not be for a while however.

@Midna
Oh wow I don't know how I missed that! I guess I was distracted by the bad palette on the fire ball, I need to fix that too.

Thanks again for the support guys.
Oh cool you like it, well here's the bin file then:

GFX 06

Here is my try at the wooden spike. I'm not sure if I like it.

That is one creepy looking Ninji leod.
Hopefully better wooden spike:

GFX 12
Looks pretty neat MarioWings77, although those words are a little hard to read.

To celebrate the month of October and my love for candy corn I made this:

Candy Corn Valley

I had a hard time coming up with the palette, and I'm still not really satisfied.

An Icy Candy Corn Valley!
@Hobz

I really like the intro screen graphics, did you make them?
I like the look of the level, but have to say that lava in a forest looks a bit odd.

Here is my improved FG. The old one really wasn't easy on the eyes.

It might still need some palette tweaking.

I request a background with a bunch of Blimps soaring in the sky.

I took a shot at it (you can ignore the FG) :

I'll need a dark, mysterious city/metropolis set for my Abstract/Dream level. If you can, give it a purple tint. It'll need some places for toxic waste/lava to come out of buildings and rooftops also. Thanks!

Bumping this up for the 2nd time. I need this or I'll have to drop my level.

Are you requesting FG, BG or both?
