I'm Eminus. I like to play video games, draw pixel art and watch anime.
I'm a dude living in France, yet I never wear striped shirts and I don't have a moustache. I speak the france though. I'm known to be a pretty cool creative dude who sometimes barges into contests and steals the prizes.
If you wanna have a chit chat you can hit me with a PM or find me on IRC. I'm incredibly rude and show no mercy to the weak
I'm a smw hacker and I hack smw.
I got my nose into smw hacking in end 2013, and it was my very first hacking/level designing/game making experience. It's also what got me into pixel art, because I was amazed by the fact that you could modify pretty much all the gfx of the game. So now I'm an okay pixel artist, I mostly draw sprites but I can draw foregrounds too. I suck at backgrounds though.
I'm enjoying smw hacking because smw is one of my favorite games of all time. I also think it's a nice way to use your creativity, there are many tools and resources for it and it's easier than making an actual game. What is keeping me into it is this community as well. It's a kinda small one, but it's good because almost everyone knows each other.
I hack smw yet I didn't release any sort of resource! How is that possible?
Well as I said before I enjoy entering contests every once in a while. So most of my work consists of a series of contest entries.
-VLDC8: Yoshi's Starvation, ranked 16th
My first entry ever! I still was a shy and not confident baby hacker. The level was orginally planned to be called Yoshi's Inside Story but the name didn't fit on the overworld so I changed it. It was supposed to be longer too, but I lacked time and had to cut a great part of the stomach section. People still seems to have enjoyed it though, so that's cool. Here's a video of some random dude enjoying it properly.
-ExGFX Contest March 2015: "coulds", ranked 2nd
This one, I don't know... I made it a while back, so certainly right now I think it could have been much better than that. I think if I ranked so high it was because of how few participants there were
-24hosmw #8: NEIN NEIN (what was I thinking)
The point of this contest was to make an entry under 24 hours, but it took me slightly more than 24 hours so I couldn't submit it in time. It's kinda messy but you should play it please.
-LMCC2: Lunar Majestic, ranked 2nd
Lunar Magic creativity contest... Lunar Magic... Creativity... Guys I GOT IT
-C3LDC 2015: Money the Monkey, ranked 2nd
That Ninji transformation thing leod and Medic made for C3 reminded me of a monkey. What if Mario had a monkey and that you got to play as that monkey? Well wonder no more because I made it a reality.
-ExGFX Contest August 2015: Catacombs, ranked 2nd
I'm actually fond of this one, I remember putting some efforts into drawing those skeletons. Though the palette sucks. I mean the theme was dark, couldn't you make it darker, old eminus?!
-SLDC 2015: Agent Plumber, ranked 4th
We had to make a level based on one of the themes the host gave. Then I found out we were allowed to combine themes, and I was like "oooh let's combine factory and silhouette whoa". And this is the result. I spent an entire week discovering exAnimation tricks, coming up with graphics, sprites redrawings, good aesthetics... And I designed the actual level in one night just before the deadline. So yeah yet another level shorter than I wanted it to be.
-Secret Santa 2015: SPOTLIGHT SPRITES
This was very fun to make. I had to make a present based on what another member wanted. But the twist was, Satan ordered me to corrupt the person's wish. IDidMakeThat asked for a castle level that uses the spotlight sprite... And I used the spotlight sprites ;)
-VLDC9: Fabulatory, ranked 24th
Time spent on tileset and aestethics: 2 weeks
Time spent on the actual freaking level design: 2 minutes
I wanted to make something weird and unsettling once again, and I succeeded. I think the level design could have been better though.. I HAVE A CREATIVITY PROBLEM
-ExGFX Contest August 2016: rainy grass, ranked 7th
An attempt at making a creative water themed foreground.. I think it's pretty good, especially since I wasn't focusing on this very much because I was making the entry below at the same time.
-Summer LDC 2016: Summer Bummer, ranked 1st
It's the first time I ranked first :0
This is the most accurate representation of summer you can think of. I had fun writing the dialogues and coming up with the different gimmicks.
Aside from that, what I currently do in the smw hacking department is working on a hack known as Extra Mario World. It's not just my hack though, it's Team Välfärd's hack! A team constitued of Von Fahrenheit, PercentN and me. Working with these two guys has been a blast so far. They're pretty rad, yeah.
-Pretty Rad Persons-
Von Fahrenheit: Pretty rad dude. Also very smart and serious. We mostly discuss about ideas and stuff for our hack, but we also talk about other things and it always feels good.
PercentN: Before meeting him, I didn't know someone chiller than me existed. In addition of being permanently chill, he's also a very good pixel artist.
Eevee: is lovely. She's someone fun to talk to, always trying her best to bear with others. What I like about her is that she always commits herself to whatever work she does.
Gloomier: He's a cool guy he's a cool guy, he's a cool guy he's a cool guy.
Berkay: Enthusiastic about pretty much everything, really. I like him because he always shows interest into other people's work.
Wakana: Probably one of the most experienced smw hacker out there. The amount of work she's done is incredible, whether it comes to musics or hack moderation. And on top of that she's super nice! Guess you can say she's literally an angel.
Ruberjig: We don't talk much, but I still like him and respect him for all the work he does. Whether it comes to graphics, music or ASM, he's great!
K3fka: It's always a good time to chat with this man. Despite all his responsibilies, he takes the time to hang out every now and then, and I think it's good. Also he knows Rhythm Heaven and jojo so he can only be good tbh
DiscoTheBat: A SuperFX powered bat. She does ASM, and she's good at it! She's very friendly and always here to listen to others. I wish she was more popular...
