Description: "The Coin Hunt" is a pretty small hack that only has six levels. Another thing worth mentioning is that the entire hack is in black and white, which gives
it some kind of a Gameboy feel in my opinion. ;)
As the name implies, the goal of each level is to collect all coins. You'd better hurry though - you don't have much time to complete a level!

If you have any questions about this hack, found a bug etc., feel free to send me a PM.
Enjoy!

BUG: Sometimes Bowser isn't visible in the boss level, which may confuse you when reading the ending message. To those who it happened to: Bowser is supposed to be there as a "boss". Just thought I should point that out.

First I must say, I love stylized hacks, games, movies, and just visual media in general. When I say Sin City the color palettes were just so perfectly blended. Well, I'm all ready getting off track. So, even though this hack was short, I got the impression that I'd picked up a used Gameboy game at the store and beat it on the way home. It was such a fast playthrough and after first beating it I longed for more content. But then I realized the experience is perfect, because it doesn't over stay its welcome. In the same way the XBLA game Limbo is short and has a distinct silhouette graphical presentation. You will get 5 minutes tops out of this hack once you open up your emulator, so it's nothing I can recommend for a long in depth play. Though if you want to make a quick youtube video or brush up on your speed running skills with the time, this hack is just perfect for you.

Okay, let's start.

Graphics: 9.4/10.0 = 9/10
+5.7 Black and white fits this hack perfectly!
+4.3 Death blocks were the skulls on the Torpedo Launcher. It looks nice.
-0.6 I'm sorry, but the palletes irritate my eye a bit after seeing so bright white.

Overworld: 8.7/10 = 9/10
+6.1 Nice for a 6-level hack.
+3.9 Love the tiny little flowers.
-1.3 Why only straight paths? Add a few curves and twist to cure that problem.

Difficulty Curve: 10/10
+9.3 The difficulty curve went on to be perfect until I reached a certain point...

Replay Value: 6.2/10
+10.0 Probably going to play it again...
-4.8 Then again, it has a LOT of challenge.

If I forgot anything else, tell me.

Score: 8.9
Rank: Feather (Wonderful!)

My review:

Overall, this hack was good, even if short and with black and white, therefore this is not my favorite hack.
So i will say this: the level design was simple, short and based on collecting all coins in the level. But the final boss battle was not a great idea: i have not seen any boss battle in those kind of games. If Mario is looking for money, why do Bowser would care of it? Mah! The overworld was just some flower in white-black, like everything. However i really don't like the graphics because they don't fit with the game engine: a "Game Boy" graphics style would have been better. The same goes for palettes. Aside this, this little game was a lot of fun and worthy of note. I feel like give 7/10 to this hack, i won't pass to rating since this was too short for a long review, but meh. I hope the next "coin hunt" (i guess there will be another) will have Game Boy graphics, instead of this "annoying" black and white (By the way, no offense).
