| Review by soldier | A well-built hack, with a good amount of variety and some challenging levels. 8.5/10
Some things you might want to work on:
* Overworld revealing. Tiles appear in random order.
* The info box in Yoshi's Store would probably be more useful if it explained the grey vs. blue items.
* The path from Yoshi's Store to For Experts Only. Put some rocks on the side of the main island Mario can climb down and let him swim off-screen a little to get over to that little island.
* Iggy. I'm not sure what you did to that battle besides change his hair, but at one point I fell through the platform and at another point Iggy's head disappeared.
* Blind leap in Iggy's Zone
* Major lag in the switch palace
* A lot of jumps that require maximum distance or maximum height to make, where it isn't always obvious that's what you have to do
* Background color of "Iggy is defeated" segment looks odd
* Non-obvious blocks. There was no indication that the grey water in Custom Block Zone reverses your controls. I spent awhile thinking I was fighting a current and getting frustrated that I couldn't make any headway. That one in particular is frustrating because at the very left end of the water the controls aren't reversed, but as soon as you swim right they are and you end up back on the left again. ...And I still don't know what that "SYC" block did.
* Non-obvious goal of "Falling", though if you're the type that has to see everything then I suppose you'll figure it out by accident
* I know the currents were blocky around the islands in the original, but it seems more noticeable with these alternate water graphics. Maybe that's just me though.
* Patch the coin counter to go above 99. It fills too quickly as is, leaving no reason to care about most of the coins in the game.
* Let us leave the "End of demo" level please = )
* What's with all the teleports hurting you?
Things I really liked:
* the overworld border
* the variety
* the sense of polish
* the "fun" factor was definitely there
Disclaimer: Having not gotten past "For Experts Only" I can't rate whatever else is over there (presumably, the other two mini islands). | | Posted by: soldier - 2009-12-05 07:25:28 AM |

| Review by Error 52 | Here's my review:
After reading about this hack a lot in the hack removal log, I decided to quickly snag it in the moderation stage.
Level Design: 8/10 Quite Good! It's a bit different from the usual Mario levels but that makes it really good. I like how you applied the time up safety patch because that makes the levels have a different feeling.
Graphics: NA/NA It's redrawn. Meh.
Music: 7/10 While you probably snagged it from the Music section, (correct me if I'm wrong) it seemed okay by not fitting.
Story: Uhhhh... 6/10 Pretty Basic. Ah who cares.
Overworld: 7/10 It was okay. No cutoff and decorated.
8/10: Fun. Good work! | Posted by: Error 52 - 2009-12-03 06:30:56 AM |
