Description: This is a short, one-level hack I created out of boredom. With no real story, the focus of this hack is exploration and level design.

The hack is mostly vanilla, but it features a soundtrack composed by me.

Credit to Construct101 for the Toad graphics.

Enjoy, and feel free to review this hack!

This is my first review, here it goes:

Level Design: 7/10

It didn't feel like anything stuck out that interested me...at first, but in the later levels (like the castle & water part), I was actually glad with the design, although i do have to say, if you are intended to go through the water portion of the level, you shouldn't have it so that you can jump over that gap.

Graphics: 6/10

I know its vanilla, and you do some work with the BG's, but So much more could be done, I commend you on the palettes, but most FG was the original FG, and the Forest and Water level BGs seem to be the same. I'm not taking points away for anything bad, it's just that more could be done.

Music: 9/10

The music was great. So great, that i actually got mad when i got to the Star part of the level, it was the same. It sort of killed the good mood i had listening the the custom music. These were good choices for music, I would of liked to hear what you would of had for the star theme.

OW: 4/10

Yoshi's Island + Icy theme + Hills with water BG Palette messed up. Fix that and add a few changes and it will be alright.

Plot: 7/10

sort of a simple storyline, but it does follow through and not fade away.

Overall: 33/50

It had decent gameplay, My only problem is the graphics, funny to hear that when it's vanilla-style, but i really do feel that there could be more done with the Backgrounds and Overworld.

Well, this is quite an interesting hack for something that was made out of boredom! Here's how I rate:

Level Design: 7.5/10

This level was very fun and unique, but I was diisapointed at the lack of well-hidden secrets in a hack that supposedly has a focus on exploration. Also, I think it's unfair to have to do the entire water section all over again if you die after the midway, especially since the midway is after it.

Graphics: 7.5/10

I don't need tons of ExGFX to make me happy, so seeing a hack with vanilla graphics and awesome palettes was great! However, I am forced to subtract one point for minor cutoff in a few sectors of the level and for a sprite memory issue in the "nether-world" area.

Music: 10/10

Absolutly amazing! I could probably just sit and listen to most of the music tracks in this hack! Well done!

OverWorld: 3/10

I never knew that the Toads had taken over Yoshi's Island in the middle of winter (plus there's some cutoff).

Plot: 8/10

For a hack you admittingly say has no real plot, I found more of it here than in many multi-level hacks I've seen. Well done here too!

Overall: 36/50 = ~7/10

Even though it's not amazing, this hack deserves a lot more credit than it's being given right now. Except for the evil midway checkpoint, there weren't really any major problems with this hack (though even a simple OverWorld would have been nice). This is why we need more simgle level hacks here, because they can be very fun without much work involved and much time needed to get through it. If you ever get bored again Mr. Neede, would you mind making another one of these? I think this one-level hack idea is definently worth another go.
