| Tip: Avoid blind jumps. If the player has to jump down a random hole to proceed with no indication at all that they can go down there, you've done something wrong! |

| Description: | It's almost Christmas, but the Big Boo suddenly stole all of Mario's presents! Now he has to go through the cold and icy terrain to get them back for Princess Peach...
An old-new SMW hack made by Team Haunted, for the holidays. It's a Christmas- and winter-styled 1 world hack that we hope you'll enjoy. |

| Review by guy | I thought that this hack was very nice, and I can tell that you put your hard work into it!The graphics were always really nice, and they definently worked with the level type. I also liked the chucks that had winter clothes. Also, THANK GOD that the plot was different. The new arrow thingies in the overworld were also nice! The music was very nice for the winter theme.
Overall I would say 9/10. Thanks! | | Posted by: guy - 2012-08-12 08:01:24 PM |

| Review by The Secret Exit | Level Design/Difficulty: A
The levels were, almost entirely, fun and challenging, and quite enjoyable. Half of the mansion was, but the throw-block-kicking room was not very fun due to the need to kick blocks in midair.
Graphics: A+
The graphics were excellent.
Music: B
The music was winter-like, but not very Christmas-y. Some music was too loud and annoying.
ASM: A+
The ASM was very well placed and fun to use. The YI door and step platforms worked perfectly and added an extra dimension to the levels.
Story: A
A short hack requires a short story. It was interesting enough to keep you playing, but wasn't the main focus.
Secret Exits (who would I be if I didn't rate this one): B
There was one level with a secret exit, and I found it before finding the acutal goal.
Overall: A
Verdict: It was a nice, fun Christmas-time hack to play. | | Posted by: The Secret Exit - 2011-02-14 02:48:22 PM |

| Review by Thomas | One of the first problems I encountered with this hack is the fact that it does not work with Snes9x - it crashed right on game load.
Anyway:
Level Design - 8/10
Most of the levels were okay, but some levels were just meh (Snowy Heights, in particular. It wasn't very snowy, despite both its name and its look on the overworld). Also, by acquiring the cape in Icy Caverns, other levels can be easily skipped.
Overworld Design - 9/10
Very well made, however the perspective seems a bit strange.
Difficulty: 7/10
The game had a rather easy difficulty for most of the hack, then BAM, the boss of The Freezing Manor comes and screws it up. There's only one throw block to spare, and the Eeries seem to be generating faster than usual.
Plot - 8/10
Being a semi-generic Christmas plot, I decided to up it's rating a bit. It seems kind of silly, but I suppose there's no real limit to what you can do in the Mario universe.
Graphics - 9/10
Excellent job on them, they look very nice. I especially liked the first level's, as it fits best with the theme of the hack. The biggest problem I had was the YI Boss Door used in Go Go Mario. It seemed so out of place (and Mario's cape ends up in front of it when it closes, as well). Also, in the the Freezing Manor, flying up in some of the rooms reveals empty ceilings.
Music - 7/10
Most of the songs were well-chosen, but Snowy Height's in particular didn't really seem right, especially with the theme of the hack.
ASM - 8/10
The YI sprites were pretty well used, and the message box text was a nice change. There isn't to much to rate, though.
Overall - 56/70, 8/10
It was a good hack, but there are ways to make it better. | | Posted by: Thomas - 2010-12-22 07:24:49 PM |
