| Tip: Try not to place secret exits at the very end of levels-- the player will basically have to go through the same level twice. |

| Review by wwwwww | All right, let's try to review this constructively. It definitely looks like a first attempt to me, and it is your average beginner hack--but it isn't horrible, just a little...rough around the edges? You definitely put some thought in to it though, and that deserves some feedback.
Graphics: Mostly vanilla and palette edits which is not surprising for a beginner hack. It's not a bad thing, however erasing details from the normal Super Mario World graphics comes off more as a lazy attempt at ExGFX than any thoughtful effort.
Level Design: Oh dear. As a vanilla hack this is where the meat of the hack is. Or should be. There are a few neat twists such as a upside down level and a maze level;, but unfortunately for each somewhat clever trick there comes at least 2 flaws; the upside down level is impossible to complete, and the maze level is the same recycled 'get the P-switch to turn the blocks in the way', and almost requires glitch abuse to beat the level in the ridiculously short time allotted. Luckily there is only one maze, but you mention that those mazes are the only mazes except for a whole world full of similar mazes in the next version... >.<
Story: I know that there is technically a story but I honestly can't take "Mario wants a cookie" seriously enough to give it a rating. Additionally the random messages boxes scattered around the levels make half-hearted attempts at advancing the story, but then devolve in to random jokes littered with spelling and grammar errors.
There is no custom music or custom ASM.
This is a beginner's hack in pretty much every way. There are a few things that keep it from being thoroughly average, but it probably isn't enough to warrant a playthrough. All in all, if you read these reviews and decide this hack isn't for you, it probably isn't, simple as that. | | Posted by: wwwwww - 2011-09-25 02:53:31 PM |

| Review by dottedgirl | This hack reminds me of when I first started this. Why? There are some key issues throughout that keep this hack from being... well, enjoyable.
Standard Ratings
Graphics- 15/20 Overall, no complaints here. Things seemed well structured and consistent as needed. Though, why was the mushroom suddenly an odd, poorly drawn box of pills?
Music--15/20 Though nothing custom or new, all music was used appropriately.
Level Design- 4/20 Here is where your hack takes a huge hit. The levels you had were dull, mostly un original, sometimes annoying, but over all, boring. There were also various instances where the player could break the game, there were glitches, and some jumps and levels were unfair, or just did not fit in a World 1 area.
Overworld-10/20 Although I liked your layout for world 1 (good shapes, I liked the idea), there were tons of cut-off graphics and perspective errors- the obvious ones, unfortunately.
Story- 0/20 Sorry, but there basically was no story. No flow at all. Tons of spelling errors, grammar errors, and bizarre messages. IT was not very creative either.
Bonus Ratings
ASM- None
Custom Blocks- None
ExGFX- 2/10 You used a few new things to mix it up a bit, but nothign major.
Custom Sprites- None
Enjoyable-5/10 I liked your castle level actually, though it needs some work as well.
FINAL SCORE
51/100 Needs A LOT of work.
It seems to me as though you just started SMW hacking. You do have some ideas, and understand how to use lunar magic and the associated tools. However, the art of level design hardly ever comes natural, to anyone. You have to learn the concepts of what makes levels good, then use what you learn to implement your ideas. I know you can do it if you put your mind to it, and ask around on this site.
If you'd like me to be more specific on things you can fix, I'd be happy you help you, just let me know.
