For those who forgot what this thread even is, welcome back. For those who have never seen this thread before, welcome in Mates and Femates! For a long while since 2016 I have hid myself from the crowd of legendary porters and leaned more towards making compositions and ports for those outside the community. However, I think I am finally ready to come back after 3 years after the recent praise towards the ports and tracks I made in both "Krack The Hack" and "JUMP 1/2". I am also currently working on the soundtrack for "Nova and the Dark Armour", "SMW: The After Years II", and offering services for some of my friends.

I'll get this out of the way, no I don't take requests. If you want me to compose/port something for you, you either A) have to give me a very good reason (TSPR-X), B) I know you well enough to offer my services to you at random, or C) commission (DM for details).

I fully intend on only composing tracks. If I am to do a port, I'll most likely remix/rearrange it since I wouldn't be able to port very accurately (hear my versions of Your Best Friend and DKL's Boss Theme to see what I mean). The closest I've gone to fully porting a song accurately is this, tho to be frank that that was the easiest song to ear port from MMX3.

With all that out of the way, hopefully I will use this more to show off random things and totally not abandon it within' a month (daizo edit: OOPS). Tho idk I've been having a fair bit of fun composing again thanks to the positive reception of said songs I mentioned, so who knows.

Ghost House Theme
... Why I feel it sounds like an oriental theme?
By the way, this one is great for a new porter#w{=P}
Daizo, you hath potential to be a great swordsman musician. I'm really liking the sound of the Zelda II battle theme, and that Ghost House theme sounds fittingly eerie.

@tcdw: Thanks, you just kinda learn from other peoples mistakes.

@Gamma V: Great swordsman? Sure. Great musician? Awesome.

Well guess I got another one for you guys... but this one is from some sort of test that Scooter put me through. He "tested" me by making me port Mario Golf - Putt's Theme, and I accepted the test. This is my result:

FORE! You are doing a horrible err... I mean great job! As your teacher, I'm impressed how much you're getting down in a short time. Keep it up Daizo!

Final Fantasy V - Walking the Snowy Mountain!

I've been wondering when an unsampled version of this would be made (other then the one present in VIP 4), so I decided to port it just to see how I could do for my first SNES port. The looping point seems to be off (not sure why, I got it synced at least), but I think I did pretty good with it otherwise... although I'm not sure if the Distorded Guitar was the best choice for Channel #0.

A Castle Theme [S]

Yes you're seeing this correctly, I actually made a song using two samples. Mostly a vanilla song otherwise, but I didn't really need much samples since it sounded awesome to begin with. I've also thrown in a bit of ASDR to the mix as well just for kicks. I'll be using this in a secret project of mine, so don't expect a release until later on. Anyway, how do you feel about the song, as well as the samples I used?

Donkey Kong 64 - Creepy Castle [PS]

Well here's something slightly unexpected from me of all things. It uses a couple samples for kicks, but it's mostly SMW Instruments. Oh yeah, Magus joins the party tonight... The reasons why I did the port is A) a legacy version got removed, and it needed a makeover anyway; B) because it's shockingly one of the easier songs in the N64 to port; and C) I like the song.

I might update it, considering there's still a couple issues. Oh well, point them out anyway.

Edit: Updated, fixed a minor fluke with the guitar part.

I sense that the "Ignore Daizo Policy" is back...
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures - Tower of Flames (PS) (aka TLOZ - Level 9 Remastering)

Not exactly accurate, but I had my fun with the song. Jeniffer joins the party, though...

CUSTOM - Ghost House Theme (v2)

I thought I could try out a bit of ASDR with the song, and fix up the octaves so it sounds a little better.

Not a huge update, but feel free to comment on these, as well as the port above.

This sounds ten times better than the one I used back in 11; very nicely done DVDquality, er... DDV. Sounds similar to the legacy port, but just on steroids... At the same time, though, it doesn't. You did a very nice job.

By the way, what does [RS] mean???
Gosh damn, it's been.... months. Like, half a year... That felt way longer than that.

New Ports:
-Daizo's Journey - Mountain Land (WIP) [PS]
-Daizo's Journey - Sky Land [PS]
-Daizo's Journey - Victory [PS]
-Nova and the Dark Armour - Ghost House (Theme 1) [S]
-Nova and the Dark Armour - Murder House [S]
-Donkey Kong 64 - Creepy Castle [S]
-Super Mario Land - Ending (Part 1)
(and...)
-Sicari Remastered - Assassin's Rise [S]
-Morton's Empire - "Majestic" Boss Battle (WIP) [S]
-Project Destruction - Death Theme [S]

As you can clearly see, I kinda hid away the last 6 months, but I think it's about time I move out of my personal rock. Here's some background for all of the ports I just listed.

Daizo's Journey Ports:
To be quite honest, the OST of Daizo's Journey has a mix of everything, including previous resources touched up by me to make the hack unique in a way. There are tracks that were previously unsampled that I unsampled myself. I bring this up because the first tracks are my attempt of porting a custom OST for the hack (specificly for World 5), and it got me wondering if I should move away from VG OSTs into custom tracks instead. Sky Land has a bouncey energized feeling to it, which is fitting since it's a level where you bounce on enemies and wall jump against walls like a CHOMP wannabe (remember that hack?). Mountain Land is sort of an attempt to make an oriental athletic theme, since my favourite theme are high up mountains. Not too proud of it, since I couldn't get a nice piano sample working for it, so I stuck with SMW's (which sounds horrendous). The Victory theme is actually a unique addition to the hack, since it allows for voice acting in the game. Not "too much", I doubt I can add dialog to cutscenes or something insane like that. It's based on the port "GoooO", if you're wondering why it sounds so familiar.

Nova and the Dark Armour Ports:
If you don't know what Nova and the Dark Armour is, here's a teaser trailer. This hack had been planned to have a completely custom OST for a very long time, with porting and creating being a one-man job by yours truly. The "oriental" ghost house was actually a sneak preview of the ghost house them from that hack, only it still used Vanilla samples. Now this is using custom samples, and I plan for the entire OST to have samples in it, with some SMW instruments mixed in. The other one is for a level Evilguy0613 has made called "Murder House", and... I just liked it so much that I created a theme inspired by the Shadow Temple from TLOZ:OOT with the intention of creeping you out. He'll eventually show off the level with the music implemented in the Devious Double YouTube Channel, but for now, just... imagine.

Other Ports:
These two I've already shown off, but I decided to link them here since it's available. The Donkey Kong 64 port has been upgraded to use some more samples, while the Super Mario Land Ending had actually been heard in
100 Rooms of Enemies and it's ending
. I thought it was neato, especially with Gamma V's version of "(Part 2)" being played after it.

Special Ports:
I have actually done some porting for other people's projects, including Sicari Remastered, Morton's Empire, and a secret project that you can refer to it as "Project Destruction" for now. Let's start with the former, and say that I have no idea what I was thinking when making it... but it turned out awesome reguardless. The theme really reminded me of the Sicari series, especially with the transition to the second half reminding me of K-16 Story of Steel.... and it hit me that K-16 is in Sicari Remastered, so I showed it to Eevee. I don't know what s/he is going to do with it, but I refered to it as "Assassin's Rise" because of what the main characters are...

The middle sheep is for Morton's Empire, and it's a work in progress still. This is probably the first time I've used samples I ripped myself using the same instruments as the "Not SMW" version of the same piece. The only samples I did not rip is the Chrono Trigger Choir and the Crash Cymbal.... and the obvious SMW Pinao, which god forbid if I can replace it. You can also give feedback to the same track in this thread, which I much prefer rather than here.

Final one, and it isn't the best, but it's basically the Death Theme from this secret project. It's actually a rendition of the main theme from my halloween hack from the 2014 HLDC contest known as "The Mario Game", which may or may not have significance to the secret project. Of course, I have revealed the project somewhere on the internet, but don't spoil it here until it's ready for revealing. Not much to say about this one, except "You Fail".

Also I thought I would make an announcement for what I'll be doing this C3: I thought maybe I could add background noise to unsampled ports to add an extra bit of flare for semi-vanilla hacks. One port at a time, and unless the port has unneeded background noise or there's enough room for an effect, I can only add sounds to ports that have less than 8 channels (like, one free space) unless the background noise is something like Boo Laughing, or bird chirps. Until then, I want to hear what kind of background noises you'd like me to include. Here's what I've got so far:
-Alarms
-Boo Laughing (Mario series)
-Girl Screaming (Clock Tower, heard in Zelda: Four Swords Adventure port)
-Magus Laugh (Chrono Trigger, heard in DK64 port)

What I plan to include:
-Wind
-Rain
-Thunder & Lightning
-Bird Chirping
-Earthquake
-Warzone Sounds (Gunfires, Machine Gun fires, suffering soldiers, etc)
-Christmas outside (Bells, Santa sounds [Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!])
-Zombie sounds (Minecraft)
-Skeleton sounds (again, Minecraft)
-Navi Flying & "HEY!" (Zelda)
-Someone's bathroom (I think it's self explanatory... and I think I sense posts saying "YES.")

TL:DR - Something about ports, something about information about ports, something about C3 thing, you should go read it. Hope you like what you see so far...

All these ports... and no comments. *Shrugs*

Chaser the Ultimate Gamer decided to have some fun with me, and decided to challenge me by doing a remix of another remix I've already done, and have it feel completely different. The track is called "Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land - Stage IX". I accepted the challenge, and came up with this.

Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land - Stage 9 Remix (G-Minor Grotto)

Unlike nearly all my work, I'm releasing this publicly... though, after the VLDC9 is done. If anyone wants to use this port in their VLDC9 level before it's officially released after the collaboration is complete, post here with the level link PM me the level, and the first one with a level I consider alright in the screenshots will get a PM with the track!

E: I'm dumb. PM me instead.

It's a very nice remix giving it more of a darker tone...Definitely could be a nice song for someone to use in VLDC9. Keep up the good work DDV! #smw{:TUP:}

Sorry Daizo, but with how judging is handled this year, we want all levels to be anonymous, a person can not post their level here, anything VLDC related must stay within the forum.

That being said, if a person wants to use that track in their level, do PM him instead.

That being said, the track is alright, after the 20 second mark, it picks up pretty well. That being said, the loop is pretty short, and thus makes the song pretty repetitive. One would probably get tired of hearing it before the 3rd minute mark. I understand it's a remix, but it would've been better to extend the song itself in a creative way so that you're not hearing the same melody every 12 seconds. It picks up and changes, but its essentially the same thing.

All of that said, I do like the remix, pretty good song. Repetitive isn't bad, but it would get tiring.

For it being my first "true" remix, that's a fair comment to make. I suppose a little more variance between the two repeated segments would help. Though, the loop is really about a minute, since there is an extra segment after the main melody loops twice; but it can still be kinda repetitive regardless. I'll look into it.

Well I decided to go out and port something not from a video game by porting probably one of the most simplest, yet most powerful opening theme I've ever heard.

Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi [S] (Download)
Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi [U] (No Download [yet])

Koyaanisqatsi is a movie I've yet seen, but from this opening and the fact that the word literally means "Corrupted Life" (or the movie translates it as "Life out of Balance"), I wish to see it myself. All I know about the film is it's a series of clips edited in a juxtapositional way between humanity, technology, and nature; and this song is played in the beginning of the film. For ingame use, it could be used to either begin your hack (much like the movie), or to end your climax (which would fit just as well). I wanted to rip the sample where the choir actually says "Koyaaaaannn-is-qat-siii...", but I had no such luck finding a "voice-only" sample I could use, so I used the o3d note with the syllables instead.

Man, I'm just porting like no tomorrow these days.

Edit: If you heard the SML3 remix from the Caffie Radio, my deepest apologies; I didn't think it would mess up THAT badly.

Double Post. Let's hope we don't get to Sextruple this time! Heh!

NEW! Hunter & Scorpion's Bet ReVised - Baphomet Complex [S]
NEW! Mighty Luigi Force II - Construction City / Highway Heroes [S]
NEW! Undertale - Your Best Friend! (Industrial Rendition) [S]

Two new custom "made by scratch" ports, and one song from the VERY popular game known as Undertale. I'll go over each seperately.

Baphomet Complex is one of many tracks I'll be composing for Skewer and amhunter's two-part hack known as Hunter & Scorpion's Bet ReVised! Very inspired by Final Fantasy VI, and the samples clearly show (especially the Trumpet and the Organ). Trust me, this song will keep you sanity from being taken by the level's difficulty. Stay tuned for more Hunter/Scorpion awesomeness!

Construction City (or aka Highway Heroes) is a remake of this (also by me), and it's main purpose is for Evilguy's new hack known as Mighty Luigi Force II, with the entire soundtrack being composed by yours truly! The entire OST is going to always include at least one of these instruments: 8-bit Square, or MMX Distortion Guitars; the rest of the instruments don't matter too much.

Last but not least, Your Best Friend from Undertale... sort of. You see, I cannot be crazy accurate unlike many other users, so I settled with the next best thing: a rendition. Unlike the original Your Best Friend, which has a very innocent charm
fittingly trolling the player
, this version
accurately
turns this one peaceful happy tune to a rather menacing sounding piece,
more fitting for Flowey
. It's sort of meant to sound like an industrial dungeon kind of track with machines being heard in the background, and the song builds up from having 1 to 7 channels at the end of the song. I do hope you like the change of paise of having a rendition instead of an accurate rip of the original song on SPC... which already exists. I've actually already made it available for Download for those who want to take a stab at it!

Anyway, that's all I got today. Feel free to reply to any of these tracks for feedback purposes, and I'll try my best at fixing them for another update.

You didn't make the NEW yellow, immediate fail.

jk

I haven't played Undertale, but I've heard some pieces from it, including this one. Sounds like a good reimagining of it, definitely industrial for sure. Keep up the good work.

MLF2 one sounds 8-bittish, which you did say in your post; 8-Bit doesn't sit too well with me unless it's for something dark, depressing... something like that anyways. It's an okay listen and reminds me of the Flying Wiggler Stage music from Tetris Attack, which is one of my favorite SNES games. Still, I like it all the same, but I'd say your Nova and the Dark Armour compositions are better; but that might be my bias towards liking dark songs more.

It's a fair opinion, really; I prefer moody and dark songs myself, so I can relate.

--------------

Speaking of moody and dark, I'd like to show off two more of my custom ports made from scratch. What? I seem to have an addiction to this sort of thing... along with designing graphics. Maybe I should do something in C3... HINTS?! WHAT IS THIS?!

NEW! Hunter & Scorpion's Bet ReVised - Challenger's Castle [S]
Another song for Skewer and Hunter's duel hack, and this time it's for when you face the other opponent's fortress (it would be SCORPION's or Hunter's, depending on which game you played). I do believe this uses D Minor with a combination of Final Fantasy samples along with Mega Man X's Distortion Guitar and (again) Chrono Trigger's Choir Ahh.

NEW! CUSTOM - Heartless Factory [S]
Here's something pretty neat that I made after finding a rather interesting image online. This port uses a lot of factory/laboratory-styled samples, ranging from Donkey Kong Country to Earthbound to Final Fantasy IV. It has this "very wrong" feeling to the song, while still retaining a beat and a melody, almost fitting for some kind of final level with high stakes involved. I don't really have a use for this track, it was just something fun to make...
