-Daizo's Journey - Sky Land [PS]
-Daizo's Journey - Victory [PS]
-Nova and the Dark Armour - Ghost House (Theme 1) [S]
-Nova and the Dark Armour - Murder House [S]
-Donkey Kong 64 - Creepy Castle [S]
-Super Mario Land - Ending (Part 1)
(and...)
-Sicari Remastered - Assassin's Rise [S]
-Morton's Empire - "Majestic" Boss Battle (WIP) [S]
-Project Destruction - Death Theme [S]
As you can
clearly see, I kinda hid away the last 6 months, but I think it's about time I move out of my personal rock. Here's some background for all of the ports I just listed.
Daizo's Journey Ports:
To be quite honest, the OST of Daizo's Journey has a mix of everything, including previous resources touched up by me to make the hack unique in a way. There are tracks that were previously unsampled that I unsampled myself. I bring this up because the first tracks are my attempt of porting a custom OST for the hack (specificly for World 5), and it got me wondering if I should move away from VG OSTs into custom tracks instead. Sky Land has a bouncey energized feeling to it, which is fitting since it's a level where you bounce on enemies and wall jump against walls like a CHOMP wannabe (remember that hack?). Mountain Land is sort of an attempt to make an oriental athletic theme, since my favourite theme are high up mountains. Not too proud of it, since I couldn't get a nice piano sample working for it, so I stuck with SMW's (which sounds horrendous). The Victory theme is actually a unique addition to the hack, since it allows for voice acting in the game. Not "too much", I doubt I can add dialog to cutscenes or something insane like that. It's based on the port "GoooO", if you're wondering why it sounds so familiar.
Nova and the Dark Armour Ports:
If you don't know what Nova and the Dark Armour is, here's a
teaser trailer. This hack had been planned to have a completely custom OST for a very long time, with porting and creating being a one-man job by yours truly. The "oriental" ghost house was actually a sneak preview of the ghost house them from that hack, only it still used Vanilla samples. Now this is using custom samples, and I plan for the entire OST to have samples in it, with some SMW instruments mixed in. The other one is for a level Evilguy0613 has made called "Murder House", and... I just liked it so much that I created a theme inspired by the Shadow Temple from TLOZ:
OOT with the intention of creeping you out. He'll eventually show off the level with the music implemented in the Devious Double YouTube Channel, but for now, just... imagine.
Other Ports:
These two I've already shown off, but I decided to link them here since it's available. The Donkey Kong 64 port has been upgraded to use some more samples, while the Super Mario Land Ending had actually been heard in
100 Rooms of Enemies and it's ending
. I thought it was neato, especially with Gamma V's version of "(Part 2)" being played after it.
Special Ports:
I have actually done some porting for other people's projects, including Sicari Remastered, Morton's Empire, and a secret project that you can refer to it as "Project Destruction" for now. Let's start with the former, and say that I have no idea what I was thinking when making it... but it turned out awesome reguardless. The theme really reminded me of the Sicari series, especially with the transition to the second half reminding me of K-16 Story of Steel.... and it hit me that K-16 is in Sicari Remastered, so I showed it to Eevee. I don't know what s/he is going to do with it, but I refered to it as "Assassin's Rise" because of what the main characters are...
The middle sheep is for Morton's Empire, and it's a work in progress still. This is probably the first time I've used samples I ripped myself using the same instruments as the
"Not SMW" version of the same piece. The only samples I did not rip is the Chrono Trigger Choir and the Crash Cymbal.... and the obvious SMW Pinao, which god forbid if I can replace it. You can also give feedback to the same track in
this thread, which I much prefer rather than here.
Final one, and it isn't the best, but it's basically the Death Theme from this secret project. It's actually a rendition of the main theme from my halloween hack from the 2014 HLDC contest known as "The Mario Game", which may or may not have significance to the secret project. Of course, I have revealed the project somewhere on the internet, but don't spoil it here until it's ready for revealing. Not much to say about this one, except "You Fail".
Also I thought I would make an announcement for what I'll be doing this C3: I thought maybe I could add background noise to unsampled ports to add an extra bit of flare for semi-vanilla hacks. One port at a time, and unless the port has unneeded background noise or there's enough room for an effect, I can only add sounds to ports that have less than 8 channels (like, one free space) unless the background noise is something like Boo Laughing, or bird chirps. Until then, I want to hear what kind of background noises you'd like me to include. Here's what I've got so far:
-Alarms
-Boo Laughing (Mario series)
-Girl Screaming (Clock Tower, heard in Zelda: Four Swords Adventure port)
-Magus Laugh (Chrono Trigger, heard in DK64 port)
What I plan to include:
-Wind
-Rain
-Thunder & Lightning
-Bird Chirping
-Earthquake
-Warzone Sounds (Gunfires, Machine Gun fires, suffering soldiers, etc)
-Christmas outside (Bells, Santa sounds [Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!])
-Zombie sounds (Minecraft)
-Skeleton sounds (again, Minecraft)
-Navi Flying & "HEY!" (Zelda)
-Someone's bathroom (I think it's self explanatory...
and I think I sense posts saying "YES.")
TL:
DR - Something about ports, something about information about ports, something about C3 thing, you should go read it. Hope you like what you see so far...
