Nintendo Switch (aka NX)

I honestly don't care what it is as long as: A: It doesn't have a gimmicky screen controller, and B: It has some good launch titles, and ports Splatoon, Mario maker, and Super Mario 3D world.

That kinda contradicts itself, doesn't it?

Splatoon and Mario Maker rely on the gamepad a whole lot. They are like two of the top 3 games that use the gamepad well. I can't imagine using Mario Maker with a normal controller to create levels. Splatoon doesn't rely much on the touch screen, but it certainly would be slower opening a map on screen, covering your view and selecting a place to superjump to. Not to mention the UI would also be slower.

3D World uses the gamepad in a few levels, having you slide doors open, touch platforms to make them rise and such. I guess these kind of things could be replaced by more "normal" things.

Although it does make me realize something: Maybe Nintendo will indeed throw out "gimmicky" controllers. But utilize connection with Smartphones or tablets for these kind of games for gimmicks like this. But it would only really work with Mario Maker...
Yeah, I guess I didn't really think that one through.
I have the best crocker-spaniel
Are they really showing nothing but Zelda at E3? That's...kind of hilariously terrible.

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
So far they only confirmed that no games besideds the new Zelda are going to be playable, I think. They could still show new games, just people wouldn't be able to play them. Still, I don't expect anything major here. If we're lucky, maybe one or two trailers for a few minor Wii U and 3DS releases, that's about it.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Edit: Forget all the below. Apparently Zelda is literally the only thing, period. No presentation or anything.

I imagine we'll see trailers for a few things, maybe some announcements of NX ports, probably an indie reel of some sort. But yeah, nothing playable besides Zelda. We'll at least get some insight as to what it's like, though.
yeah nintendo can go fuck itself tbh
Well shit. There goes the hype train. Derailed before it even parted.

From 2014 to this year it has been one hell of a downhill slip for Nintendo at e3.

i think it will be better than last year's anyway because zelda is actually interesting unlike their entire lineup last year

m-mother 3 and pokemon guys.......

btw

more rumors pushing further that the NX might indeed abandon optical media for cartridges.
nintendo will die with iwata
The catridge thing: I personally wouldn't mind that as long as it wouldn't mean the prices for games increase. If they were like, say, bigger 3DS-looking catridges, I'd like it a lot. Discs or no, I want to be able to get physical copies of my games, as I dislike getting digital versions.
There was a time when discs outclassed cartridge-based formats, but that time has passed. We can now produce solid-state storage in much higher capacities and with much higher bandwidth than any disc-based format. They're also more durable and can be smaller and more portable. I hope they go to cartridges, and I'm honestly surprised we haven't yet seen this move in the current generation.

Well, to quote myself here:

You know, thinking about this, there is a way this E3 (in regards to Nintendo) could still jump from "horrible" to "pretty okay", and the solution is actually quite simple. In fact, all they have to do is to make sure that the new Zelda game becomes the god-damn best Zelda game in the entire series so far, so much, that even just the trailer will blow our minds more than the trailer of Twilight Princess at E3 2006 (which would already be a problem without audience reactions). Easy, right? They can't possibly mess this up!

That Zelda game better be good to make up for all the stuff we're not getting this year.

You mean Nintendo will die WITHOUT Iwata.

It also means the console itself will not have a disc drive, potentially making it smaller in size than your average console.

But it also means no backwards compatibility with Wii U, Wii or Gamecube for that matter. At least, not through physical media.

I'm still hopeful for a digital backwards compatibility. I'd say VC style but I don't wanna pay for my games again.

A new thing about e3:

Nintendo might show something else after all

"Exclusive e3 presentation for our business partners that will showcase key launches and programs through Holiday 2016".

I dunno if we should be excited about this.

I love how small minded people can be before they even know fully what is going to happen. Quit getting your panties in a bunch and why not at least wait for the actual presentation before spewing out your garbage.
The thing is, Nintendo generates a lot of great games, they always have and still do to this day. It's a shame how many "fans" have so little faith.

While I think some people's reactions are a bit extreme you can't exactly blame them for not having the most faith lately. They really haven't been making the best choices in awhile...

I and probably others felt like this was there chance to possibly bring some hope back but...I don't know. I like Zelda games but if that's the only thing that's going to be discussed that doesn't sound that great at all. Also as of right now I have no excitement for the NX until Nintendo proves they can stop being so stuck in their ways. I don't really know much about it and I don't regret buying the Wii U but I really don't want to go through another year of repeating mistakes.

-discussion about cartridges-

So we've started with cartridges, went to CD's because they could handle more space, and now back to cartridges because they can handle more space and cartridges in general are way more durable than CD's.

That kinda made me lost for a second. I wouldn't mind if Nintendo did it, though.

They're still more expensive than Blu-Rays. And being more expensive is the last thing Nintendo games need.

And you'd have to be pretty damn callous to break a Blu-Ray at this point. They're very resistant to scratching. (Disc Drives themselves are less so, granted.)
I don't know, it's still easier to snap a blu ray in half than a 3DS cart. Having fewer moving parts in the system also decreases potential points of failure. Anyone remember the original PS2 and the infamous disc laser problems?

It's more expensive than discs, sure, but I can go buy an 8GB micro SD card for like 6 bucks, so I don't think it would be that bad. Not that I have insider knowledge of how the manufacturing pipeline works.

In this case you have to look at the whole picture, though. You can get an 8 GB SD card for $6, which seems cheap, but on the other hand, you can get a Blu-Ray Disc with 25 GB for just a few cents. The quantity also plays a major role here. One SD card with 8 GB for 6 bucks may not be a big deal, but one million such SD cards for 6 bucks each sure may. This would make a hughe financial difference in the long run, especially for companies releasing multiple games per year. To really make this worth it, the price difference would have to be way lower than that (which, admittedly, it may be - I don't have that much insight on how much the production of such a cartridge would cost nowadays).

I hope the SNES Virtual console emulator will have Super FX/SFX2 support.

I want to say it has something to do with rights issues? It being developed by a dead British studio and all.
