Cave (1st boss animation done)

I started a project a few weeks ago (April I think), I'm looking forward to finish it sometime. It would be my first hack that I've finished on my SMW Hacker lifetime, so I hope this turns very well.

For now it doesn't have a title nor a "simple" story, I'm thinking about them, I'll share them once I get a cool idea.

The whole hack will take place on a very large cave, if you have played any Etrian Odyssey, you'll know how the cave will be.

Here's a list of the main features of my hack:
- Uses SA-1, so I don't have to worry about sprite limit and get that extra processing power for some complex bosses and their projectiles (and use leod's patch without worrying about slowdown).
- Has a HP system that works like in Cave Story (thanks GHB), it also has life upgrades.
- There are five different powerups, they will help Mario in his adventure through the cave.
- I implemented a menu system, there are 3 options right now: Resume, Options (another menu), Quit (quits the game).
- Like in Etrian Odyssey, there will be six stratums which you can explore.
- There will be a clock (not visible yet), just to measure how much time takes to finish the game.
- Save points a-la Bunny Must Die, you save by pressing up on a large clock, it saves your current progress, replenishes your health and adds more time to your clock (as a punishment for trying to use clocks to save too much and free health).
- You can get HP only by saving, getting an HP upgrade or using an "elixir"/"energy tank".

This has to be one of the highlights of this May.

The cutscene looks bomb and I love your use of palettes, ExAnimation, and most of all dynamic sprites in the cutscene (telling from the fat hammer bro rotating whilst falling).

And don't think I didn't notice that Koopa standing on the brown platform floating in water. That's pretty cool.

Wow this is looking amazing so far! What you presented so far is really neat, especially the cut scene animation and the HP bar. (Really is a great patch to use.) Also can get behind all the features...

Intro animation of the 1st boss of this hack.

I finally finished this animation, solved a few problems regarding main things on my hack. Suggestions for improving the animation, music selection and other things that I could improve are always welcome!

I'll try to post updates once a week, I might post more than once if I do some important things (like this one).

Next update will be on June 6th.

Update time.

I haven't done too much since the last post. C3 is very near and I have a project that I need to complete before C3 happens, and no, it isn't this hack.

But hey, this is a progress post so I might share what I've done so far, no screenshots or videos, sorry!

- Coded some small sprites, so I can use them for some stuff like small hearts that came out of a Heart Container when you open it.
- I'm considering doing a map system, probably later this month I'll share more things about this one if I ever start to code it.
- Coded 1 attack of the 1st boss, I won't post a video of it because I don't want to spoil his attacks.

After I finish the first boss I could start designing the rest of the first stratum, it's like 15% done at this moment.

That mini boss intro is out of this world. I can't believe you did that so well and it looks like it came from a AAA snes game.

i dont know how to do any of that coding wise. please teach me wise one. :)
