Shin Megami Tensei 2 is fucking amazing. If you haven't played it then play it. Its basically metal gear but its based in Japan and has demons but its really cool.

Also Chrono Trigger is bae.

Anyone here played Valkyrie Profile? I haven't played it and I'm considering it. Is it good?
started another earthbound run last night. got up to when you get jeff in threed.

i seriously forgot how long it takes for the game to get good. even after you get paula you need to grind a little before she can take any hits, and once she's actually usable she's still like 5 levels behind ness. in addition to that, if you don't grind jeff on the cave boys at stonehenge before he joins the party, he'll be even further behind.

iirc once you reach saturn valley it starts to pick up but MAN is it slow until then

It was the non-battle parts of Earthbound that are the most memorable.

The FACT that you were fighting a hippie, a painting, a fire hydrant, a giant pile of puke were funny. The FACT that "Pair of Dirty Socks" was a battle item was hilarious. The use of
"Pray" during the final boss
was amazing.

But let's be honest here: none of the ACTUAL BATTLES were any fun at all.

Sure the scrolling analog life display added a tiny bit of depth to the battles but at the end of the day it was still a confirm button masher.

a
RPG Limit Break 2017 schedule's up if anyone's into the oxymoron that is J&WRPG speedruns

A lot of peeps on these also show up in GDQ (puwexil, Essentia)

Previous marathons are on their YouTube channel btw

I love the Nessie, Balloon Monkey and Skyrunner scenes.

Jeff's journey from Foggyland to Eagleland is one of my fave parts of the game.
Poo's meditation scene in Dalaam (I will steal your sight... Do you accept this?) was also pretty good!

You know what's good?
Ys.
Underrated and awesome series, better than the rather overrated Final Fantasy series.

Ys is phenomenal.
Played through I-IV (Mask and Dawn, not Memories).

IV Dawn is my favorite.

I want a reason really badly to replay persona3. I keep missing those Atlus sales on psn where it drops to like 5 bucks.

Atlus recently had some survey about what potential gamed they should make next, and among the listed ideas was an HD version of persona 3. I'd be down as hell to play it, and even Persona 3 dancing all night if they made one.
Cool an RPG thread. Probably my second favorite genre after platformers.

Anyways, I mainly been playing Tales of Berseria lately which is the most recent Tales game and also
A prequel to Zestiria.
After Zestiria being kind of mediocre and me not being a big fan of the Xilla games I was kind of nervous at first but man after experiencing the demo and playing it for myself all my worries quickly faded away. I personally think it is a great game and shaping up to be one of my favorite in the series if not my favorite. Both the story and the gameplay are really good though I guess in the end I do kind of have to agree that some areas aren't really anything special but I think they get the job done at least. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be at the final dungeon next time I play the game so I'm going to be kind of sad when it's over but it at leaves gives me hope for the future of tales games...(Unlike Final Fantasy games...)
My Youtube Channel for Hacking and Gaming.
Me and Hailcrash, a friend of mine who doesn't post much on the site, have been replaying an RPG that we've played years ago: Chrono Trigger. And, we've forgotten how beautiful the game was. We never did get past the Antiquity Era (Aka "The Dark Ages", 12,000 B.C.), so we don't know what lies ahead afterwards. Don't spoil anything, please.

So far, I'm up to the Fiendlord's Keep. Wish me luck with these baddies.
Just so you know, I'm very active on the site anymore like I was before; I'm mainly on Discord now.

Download CHEATENGINE to speed up Fallout 1. Great as it is you don't want to waste extra time walking around and waiting for critters to finish their turns.

a
@Lion you should play the final mix versions if you're emulating tbh, the final mix KH games are a lot better, tho I guess 1.5 contains final mix content?? I've only owned the normal games IRL. (I should probably buy a ps4 and invest in 1.5+2.5 HD remix and 2.8 as well somewhen, and replay all of the games, tho i hope critical mode is by default in 2.8 and isn't made unlock only like in kh3ds =v)

Edit: That said, it actually really sucks that it's not gonna have the multiplayer modes from days and bbs, even though I unfortunately never got a chance to really do the multiplayer for it, I would have liked to, and couch co-oping it would be easier. It also sucks that days and re:coded aren't playable in 1.5 + 2.5 LMAO. So IDK. Maybe it's not as good despite having the final mix stuff included. On the other hand it contains extra story so I should probably watch it anyway but urrrg it'd be so much better to have the extra story in a playable game damn it squeenix and your movie obsession.

It's been a while since I was able to sit down and play through an RPG entirely. Between work and college, I barely have time to sleep anymore. The most recent RPG's I've played through are Xenoblade, Xenoblade Chronicles, Xenoblade X, and a second playthrough of Mother 3.

Xenoblade Chronicles and Mother 3 are two of my favorite games of all time. Meanwhile, between the mixed soundtrack, bad dubbing, dull story, and empty world, Xenoblade X was a huge disapointment for me.

I also managed to find a copy of Chrono Trigger for a decent price. Sadly, the AC adapter slot on my SNES apparently broke after my previous use of the thing and I don't currently have the time or tools needed to fix it. Someday, I'll finally be able to play through the game.
I'll make a layout eventually...
The Mario RPGs are one of the best ever, and pretty underrated from RPG standards.
I mean, it's one of the few RPGs I played where you can never miss and never get hit if you're pro enough, and where it's easy to make critical hits. Not counting it also has easier to notice "super-effective" attacks.

Oh, and you avoid most enemies if you want to and kill them later.
It's good for people who think grinding is hard and boring.
Actually, then you can tell if you're good or not, because you can't blame the game for your mistakes.

I'd say some traits that are commonly associated with RPGs are:

-There is some kind of character development (whether via level-ups, skills trees, equipment or something entirely different)
-There is some kind of battle system that's strongly influenced by your character development

According to this definition, Mario Golf and Tennis on the Gameboy Color are RPGs. I fully agree with this idea - in both, you gain experience and level up your stats through using the battle system, specifically the acts of playing Golf or Tennis, in their singleplayer campaign modes. You can even choose how to level your character up when you get enough EXP to do so, and in Mario Tennis, you can level yourself and your doubles partner up separately, from the same EXP pool.

I've played pretty far into Mario Golf GBC before, and it's pretty damn fun for what it is. It's got a large amount of things to do, for a golfing campaign, and some of the challenges it presents to you are really friggin' difficult. For example, take the Golf Guru's Pitch & Putt, where you have to land a shot on the green and then putt it into the hole nine times with varying layouts. Taking more than two shots on any hole, taking less than two shots on any hole, or not reaching the green on your first shot, all fail the challenge, no matter which hole out of the nine you fail on.

This is a thing that's happening, now. Achievements in old video games.
Thank you for the layout, Erik557.
Man, I wish this would've worked. Oh well.
If not for respect, but dramatic effect, take on the face of Guy Fawkes.

Don't say that, else he'll bring up final fantasy mystic quest instead!

also I just noticed that you have rengar in your avatar set 11/10 best cat ever owo

That said speaking of what is and isn't an RPG, do people consider the diablo games as an RPG game or a 3rd person top down action/shooter style of game? I think I'd actually say the latter on this, even though I still kinda consider kingdom hearts an RPG.
beat mother 3 again last night. i may actually end up playing it a third time sometime, there are a lot of hidden items i didn't get, plus the game is just *good* (at least once you get past chapters 1-3)

dunno if i'll bother grinding for pk ground before
porky
tho, it took me like an hour and it wasn't fun at all
Has anyone heard about the Radiant Historia remake they're doing for the 3DS? It's called Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology, and the Japanese version is supposed to come out on June 29. Personally, I would have preferred an actual sequel, but maybe having this will make one more likely.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
