I'm looking at you 3D Land and World. Why did Nintendo design it like that? SMW had it perfect.

Conker has another issue with this. (see: area before GMP, Sunny Days.)

I'm not a huge fan of achievements/trophies in DLC of games. Been quite a few times where I suddenly feel like getting all the trophies in a game, only to find that half of them can only be earned by buying the DLC. I can understand why developers do it, but it still bugs the shit out of me.
Bosses with multiple consecutive phases. I'm looking at you, Dark Souls 3!

I also agree @ imamelia with ATB. And yeah, my beloved FF6 uses it. And yeah, I think it would be a better game without it. I prefer pure turn-based with no real-time elements because ATB stresses me out a bit.

It's really not that stressful in any of the Final Fantasy's. Mother 3 on the hand. I literally screamed when I saw the characters HP slowly decrease.

It's not that bad if there's checkpoints. I'm looking at you Capital B.

I lasted through this

Come talk to me when you have to:
* go through 7 phases
* that can attack you up to seven times (starts at one, increments with each phase)
* that also have a fucking stupid ass charm attack that will affect any human male characters that don't have either the Demonstone (cursed) or the Somon Ring (missable, hidden at the very beginning of the game) or repeatedly let Molemen into your party so you can give the human males their Iron Will helmets (or managed to spark a Temptation evade tech? I'm p sure that's a thing)
* and an insta-kill attack that requires you to have an ability from the fucking prologue to evade it
* and is basically impossible if you don't grind global magic levels to unlock the Elixir (requires Lv.15+ Water/Earth magic synergy), Reviva (Lv.29 Fire), Sword Barrier (Lv.20 Holy) and Vajra Shield (Lv.28 Earth) spells or spam the Quicktime (Lv.26 Water) spell's exploit
* and also grinded enough to raise your party's main weapon levels as high as possible for max damage output, while sparking high level techs along the way

RS2 a bitch

12 rounds? More like FIVE! You see, in each phase, you're on a time limit. If you're on Round 2 and the time runs out, you start Round 2 over. If you're on Round 8, on Phases 1 through 4, and you beat the boss, you go on to Round 9, switch characters, refill your health, and go to the next phase. Although the game gives you up to 12 rounds to beat the boss, you really only have 5, which is the same as the number of phases.

See, the frustrating thing is, if the time limit runs out, you keep whatever health you have left, but the boss completely restores his health! You then have to start the phase over with less maximum health! There are no health pickups during the battle. Considering how long the battle is, you do NOT feel good when that time runs. What makes it even more frustrating is that, in a real life boxing match, both fighters get water and recovery aids between rounds. You should be able recover, like, 1 melon or so if the time runs out if they really want to emulate a real boxing match. That would probably reduce player frustration levels sharply. The Tiny phase was extremely difficult for me.

Oh, and on the subject of DK64, infuriatingly ANNOYING BONUS STAGES!
Beaver Bother was designed by Satan himself
The harder versions of the bonus games are actually impossible to beat because everything except the player (which includes the melon gun) and possibly time limits is 1.5x faster on Virtual Console. On the actual hardware it's actually constantly lagging almost as bad as Gmod does for me on the 1950s maps, where my FPS doesn't rise above 3 (I assume, the counter doesn't go below 10)

Everypony's digging with a shovel
I hate when games have mandatory collectathons despite not being a collectathon game. I already didn't like Kirby Mass Attack, and when I saw that I needed to backtrack and play all the levels I could barely force myself through just to collect all the rainbow medals, I looked up a cheat code because there was no way in hell that I'd do all that just to unlock a lazy boss rush and final boss.

Flaws in presentation can easily bother me. I'm quick to notice inconsistent voice quality, graphical quirks, and bugs. The clashing graphics and usually awful music of many SMW hacks tends to greatly put me off. In fact, here's a quirk that's seemingly specific to hacks: people modifying sprites to fit a theme and making things hard to read.

I don't like twitchy controls. A lot of people think of them as snappy and responsive, but to me they make the character feel weightless. Fun, intuitive physics make for my favorite type of play control.

I really hate repeated, reused, or reskinned content. The repetitive nature of Mario 64, especially in its most linear levels, makes it difficult for me to replay now that I'm older and have less patience. The 3D Sonic series is extremely guilty of reusing content and copypasting setpieces all over, making for a lot of forgettable stages and games. I enjoy the Tales series but fighting samey enemies in samey dungeons in samey environments gets really old and oftentimes leads to me rushing through the end of the game.

I really hate when game developers don't include tools to improve the playing experience and to better respect the player's time. If an RPG has a stupid difficulty spike boss, I'd appreciate a way to lower the difficulty level and get past it more easily. If a puzzle is too obtuse, I'd appreciate a hint without having to get completely spoilerific info from a walkthrough. If I'll have to backtrack to an earlier part of the game, the devs should at least let me mitigate (or eliminate) enemy encounters and provide plenty of shortcuts and speedy navigation methods. If I die to a boss in an RPG I should be able to retry the battle, and all cutscenes should be skippable.

I hate reused crap too (Mario 3D Land is a great example of this, the special worlds made me die inside) but I don't see why Mario 64 was an example you gave of all things. It used the same levels but usually very different objectives. Bob-Omb Battlefield, for example, had really different missions like a boss, a race, shooting Mario from a cannon, etc. And that was just one world. There's like 14 (I think lmao) other worlds that change a lot too.
It was the example I gave because 64 DS was the most recent game I played.
Levels like Dire Dire Docks, Tick Tock Clock, and Rainbow Ride were fun-sucking in their linearity, especially once you've played the game enough to be aware of it.

what are you talking about i loved that part in heroes' rail canyon/bullet station where you grinded on floating rails

and the other part where you also grinded on rails

and the other part where you had to dodge trains while grinding on rails

and the other part where you grinded on light-rails that were controlled by switches

all while the stage is literally just final rush (THE FINAL HERO STAGE OF THE LAST GAME) but with shittier rail physics

-Replay value or I walk away
-Going easy or trashing a newbie.
-Chrono Trigger's no corner sprite animations while running just triggers me.
-Immediate respawn enemies
-there's always that one next to impossible minigame in the Wario Ware series to 100% it.
-Reusing content in a sequel. (Looking at you, Bravely Second)
-I hate going back and forth in Metroid
-When you lose everything in SMW due to one mistake
-Getting 80% on clubstep (Geometry Dash)
And a TON more pet peeves I have.
