Most underrated/underappreciated video game music

The thread title says you can post here some video game music you wish more people knew or loved. If you only have one example, no problem, you can always think of different ones in your another post. You can create a list in your post(s) and your opinion on others' examples as well.

As for now I have four examples:
- Star Fox - Titania - one of my favorite tracks from the game, although it's overshadowed by that corn area Corneria.
- some of Mega Man 1 tracks - the soundtrack of Mega Man 2 definitely sounds a tad bit better than the soundtrack of Mega Man, but I think the latter deserves bigger attention than that, but some of the tracks are more popular than others.
- Mega Man 3 - Dr. Wily 1 - sounds catchier than MM2's first theme of Dr. Wily. WHY THE HECK IS THE LATTER SO POPULAR?!
- Mega Man 8 - Tengu Man (PSX) - this one's extremely happy and catchy at once! I often listen to this one, but don't know why some people prefer Saturn track to this one.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

I think I'll never forget the awesomeness of this track since I played anonymousbloodlust's B-Side. It cannot be put into words.

Also, Gods Wil Be Watching has some damn cool stuff too. Especially this theme, which plays while
you're brutally interrogating scientists to make them stop a deadly virus that's infesting an entire solar system.
I love how it's constructed, and stay tense with the 6 repeating notes in the background that almost sound like some sort of alarm.

Castlevania ~ Symphony of the Night - Dance of Gold is awesome too. Excellent orchestra.

Asura's Wrath - Already You Must Recite It is at the same one of the most epic and tender themes I have ever fathomed. In the same game lies this gem of a final boss theme, that is absolutely beautiful.

Finally, everyone talks about Last Surprise in Persona 5, but nobody mentions Rivers in the Desert, which is just... again, you should listen to it because I'm out of vocabulary for it.
Soaring Dreams (the soaring theme when it's day) from Pokémon ORAS is a thing of beauty. It's short-ish, yes, but it captures both how great it must be to hop on the back of your Latias/Latios, have it Mega Evolve and then fly in the sky with it, while it clearly follows your directions, and the awesomeness of the eon duo itself, as it has both an upbeat and calm part to it.

I'm fanboying again but this time there's no problem with it.

The original metroid 2 soundtrack is pretty underrated I think. There aren't too many songs and at the ambient spooky sounds ones are duds, but the jaunty main theme and the final area tracks are awesome.
Like, the ENTIRE soundtrack of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It has some of the BEST video game music I've ever heard. Heck, I think this GAME is the best video game I've played, yet everyone always bashes it and says bad things about it just because it's not the Main Series. I HATE that with a burning passion! It's not a valid reason! They're not even analyzing the game objectively by itself! The reasons people are giving for why the game is bad are SO STUPIDLY ABSURD it's unbelievable! I just can't STAND it!

My Super Mario World hack is going to be taking some elements from this game, including some music.

SMW athletic theme-seasoned ROM hack players might get tired of the vanilla soundtrack but I actually still like this one as well as the boss theme. Kinda weird to listen to the athletic theme without it turning into Witch Doctor.
Pokemon X&Y gym leader battle theme-Still never played X or Y, so I clicked on it out of curiosity. Even if you never got to listen to the whole thing because the gyms were too easy, I can imagine going for a run to this music.
And the Jill of the Jungle series soundtracks sound pretty amazing for their time, having come out in the early 90's.

The Music of Snowboard Kids, SBK is such a good game but sadly the game was not well known and has a good soundtrack
Pretty much everything from the Trails series. Actually, probably anything from Falcom in general; the Ys games also have some pretty good stuff as well.

I find the soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country 3 in general underrated, but especially Rockface Rumble. The GBA version also isn't bad, though I'll admit I like the SNES soundtrack better. The music of Mega Man games that aren't part of the classic or X series probably doesn't get much recognition either. Anything from Another World's Chaos would probably qualify, especially since that game hasn't even been finished (and has been overshadowed by Copy Kitty). Donkey Kong Country Returns never seems to get much recognition for its soundtrack compared to the other four games either, probably because so much of it is just remixes, but there are at least a couple original tracks (such as this one) that are pretty good. And I never hear much about Mana Khemia's or Shatterhand's soundtrack.

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.

This only applies to the west tho, Falcom is pretty well known in Japan (not as much of a household name as DraQue and Squeenix are but)

Meh, should I really do this? I mean, I think I already shown my love for underrated and obscure stuff for WAYYY too long already, so honestly I don't know if I want to mention my entire backlog of that type of music again, because there's just WAYYY too much stuff to tell IMO lol

One thing I have to say tho, is that both the PC-88 and 98 and the PC Engine, all made by NEC Corporation, all have some really underrated games, and very few people that aren't Japanese knows about them (that is also true with the PC Engine btw, because even if it was released to a few other places around the world, it couldn't compete with the Mega Drive and the SNES, like many other consoles that tried doing that, and as such, it fell into a sea of obscurity), and what most people made on those consoles in the music department was really impressive. Ryu Umemoto especially made quite a few great atmospheric and emotional tracks on the PC-98, and honestly, it's a bit unthinkable to see most of his compositions being played on FM synthesis, because those would feel right at home on a SNES RPG #smw{O_O}

there

y'all wanted my opinions again, and there you have it #wario{;)}

nah dude, sorry, Metal Squad is hella overrated and is pretty much known by quite a few people at this point

however, there are quite a few songs from TFIV that are hella underrated tho, like Sand Hell, Fighting Back and pretty much all of the boss themes that aren't named The Breaker, Rancor, Phantom and Recalcitrance (because they are bad :^))

hey now, I haven't said it was bad; in fact, it's a pretty godlike song, but it's still the most overrated song in the Thunder Force franchise, so

understandable my dude

Well, I suppose I meant I've never heard anyone mentioning the TFIV OST before; To be fair, I've never been anywhere where someone would bring it up. Metal squad is probably my best jam from the game, regardless of status. Also, Down Right Attack, Fighting Back, and Stand Up Against Myself. I don't know how much anyone likes these songs, but I do.

Also the Doom Genesis Remix, TFIII OST, and Omake tracks are pretty great

That would require anyone on SMWC having played any MegaDrive game that didn't have "Sonic" in the title and that's just not gonna happen LOL

well, being in both a MD and PC-98 Discord server and hanging out with quite a few people which actually knows about these obscure-ass games AND being a musician which tries to get as much material as possible for covering songs results in, well, finding a shitload of obscure AF games with great music which barely anyone has any clue about lol

how about these three shmups? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't like to say "overrated" because it often means "I like it so everyone should", and I think the games I'll name aren't talked about a lot mostly because they aren't very well known.
So both Tintin's SNES games have, for me, the best video game soundtracks.
Especially The Prisonner Of The Sun, it's a pure marvel. Multiple levels in the musics, and quality is exceptionnal, it's amazing that this was SNES.

I wanted some of them sssoooo bad in a hack but I can't find them ready for a Mario hack import, and I don't know how to do it.
