When did you start play Mario, period.

Oh yeah, I did start playing Mario on period.
Helps me to stay in a better mood, I need games to calm my inner bitch.

Oh, that was not the question?
Forget it, that was just me being the dumb bitch I always am.

Anyway, screw that.
Being serious now, I first played the 8-bit Mario games, don't know which one since my dad had all 4 of them.
I was 4 or something around the time.

Good times, I was so young and happy.

Some of y'all are making me feel old as fuck right now. Playing SMAS with my dad is one of my earliest memories, and that was in...1998 I guess, so I was 4. Then we got an N64 the following year and played SM64 (mostly watched my dad play it).
I first played SMB3 on the Wii because my mom bought it out of nostalgia. Before then, shmups were the only genre of game I cared about.
I don't even remember when exactly this was, but the first Mario game I ever played was either SMW(real shocker, huh?) or SMAS. I think that's a decent way to start out on the series.
End of this message.
The first Mario game I ever played was Super Mario Bros. Deluxe on my cousin's Gameboy Colour. That was my only experience of Mario for a long time but I enjoyed it and always wanted to come back for more.

The first Mario game I ever owned and completed was Super Paper Mario, an absolutely wonderful game combining platformers with some light RPG elements and a hilarious but poignant story. The character of Count Bleck still stands out to me as one of the best subversion of a totally evil villain.
SMW was the first Mario game I ever played, and the SNES the first video game console I owned, back in January 2002. A few months late, I asked my grandma for SMW2: Yoshi's Island, which I knew nothing about other than the title. It was way different than what I expected, but I had a blast with it.

My first 3D Mario game was Sunshine, which I got for Christmas in 2003 along with a Gamecube and The Wind Waker. Even though it was 2003, playing 3D games for the first time was a big deal for me as I had only played a SNES and Genesis up to that point.

My introduction to the other Mario platformers came by way of the GBA or Virtual Console.

Early 2000s. Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World on the SNES. My childhood memories almost still there, though.

“Even if you personally are so dissatisfied with life that you want the world to end, surely the cruel reality is that it will continue on, unchanging. All the better for someone perfectly content, like me.”

If you are asking about any Mario game, then it has to be Mario Party 8 when I was 3. If you are only counting platformers, it was Donkey Kong Country Returns when I was 5. If you are only counting platformers starring Mario, then it was The Subspace Emissary when I was 8. If you only want platformers only starring Mario, then it was New Super Mario Bros. when I was 9.
*everything stops*
Yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation...

Probably around 2002-2003, I remember playing bits and pieces of Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World on my friend's SNES.
Super mario Galaxy (1) for the wii :P , got it when i was 5 and it's my favourite gaem evor :O
Everv since I picked up the controller to play SM64

IS THAT YOUR FINAL ANSWER?
If I remember correctly, it was 1998. I picked up an N64 controller with my little bambino hands and held it backwards, like I still do to this day. There was this cool game called Mario Kart something or other, that looked like an absolute blast.
I've become very grumpy these last few years, and have been biting my tongue here in SMWC's forums quite a bit. I just want to let you all know that if ever I come off as harsh, I still care about you all. You guys are great.

When I was 4 with SMW on the SNES.
BANANA SLAMMA.
First played SMA2 on the GBA my school bus had back in 2005, then got it myself in 2007. The second-hand cartridge I bought in Orlando still works completely properly!
I was a little kid when I started playing mario. It was Super Mario World, and I was BAD. But i'm WAY better now.

Minecraft is a ripoff of Minecraft.

Probably around 1988 when i got my first generic nes. It came with a Super Mario Bros cartridge.
My name is Mario, so having a game with my name on it was super cool.
Similar! December 25, 1988. I had never even heard of Nintendo, but I ended up with one.

I suppose, if we wish to be technical, I had Donkey Kong on Intellivision before this. It is a really bad port. Donkey Kong looks like an actual turd.

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
That port was actually done bad intentionally by Coleco so the Colecovision version looked better.

2004/'05 with SM64 and SMAS
