Tsu's sprite thread (2018, V2)

Oh, hi.

Actually i haven't done a lot of stuff for this C3, but i still got some sprites.

To be more specific, i got those:


-(NSMBU) Grrrol
Those are the dudes from Grinding Stone Tower, their vulnerability is exactly equal to Thwomp's. Set the extra bit, and it'll start rolling to the left instead of right.

-(SM3DL) Draglet
Those dragons from SM3DL that you found around at World 8. Set the extra bit, and it'll move around instead of floating in a stationary spot.

-(SMS) Seedy Pod
Weird pokey heads from SMS that "dances" around, and shoots a rain of seeds around it whenever mario is near.

-(YI) Boo Man Bluff
Blind boos that are slightly faster than the other boos. They can't see you, but they have a very good audition. Try not to make a sound if one is on screen.

-(SM3DL) Stingby
Bee-like bugs found in a lot of stages. They act similar to boos: they'll just fly around until they actually see Mario, then they will try to sting him, and they won't give up.

EDIT: there's a hack of mine that's basically on hold for 1 year, and i made a shit ton of sprites for it (Zelda ALTTP enemies). Tell me if any of you want them released, but be warned; i won't be arsed to optimize them if so.

also the boo isnt included in the pack.

i'd say its worth dropping a link to all your attp stuff if youre offering them up - we cant really request any to be released if we dont know what they are. maybe either have a video or put your hack up for playtesting so people know what they do, or just kinda vomit them all up and let people test as they want

1. Oh, didn't noted this. I used NMSTL while testing it, guess that's why. I putted a note at the readme pointing this out (it requires NMSTL to "function").

Well, these sprites seem like they'll be fairly useful. The Grrrol, Stingby and Draglet are all ones I'm using in my project now, though the latter is turning out to be a tad annoying to convert to SA-1.

As for the Zelda sprites? Well I guess the Armos sprite might be nice, the non boss one shown here:

Hey Tsutarja, those are quite some interesting sprites you got there.

I have a couple of questions though; first, is the Grrrol dynamic?

Second, and this goes back to your winter C3 topic from last year; remember when you made the 16x16 Hot Air Balloon sprite around that time, and I told you about the 32x32 version imamelia once made? I'm just curious to ask if you got around to making a 32x32 version of the Hot Air Balloon? If not, would you consider it, please?
1- I actually planned to do a dynamic Grrrol, but then i realized that it's not necessary.

2- I did not, but i do now that you said it. At the time i do considered it as the original one (from DKC) is 32x32, i just could not present it to you there because i forgot it. You can be sure i'm doing it someday and, if i do, i'm uploading it in the sprites section.

If i somehow forget it again, blame my asperger for it lul

1- Oh, i appreciate you like them. Didn't expected so as i posted very little content this C3. I could help you on converting the "hard stuff" to SA-1, though.

2- You know what, dude? I'm releasing my Zelda sprites next C3. Honestly, i was such a jackass to not optimize them while i had the time to. I've got a bunch more than those shown in the video, but they're so poorly coded, and needs a shit ton of optimization before any release.

And, the beamos you knew back then no longer exists, i'm doing another one via vector <-> mario collision system i got to work on.

Ah, I would be ecstatic to see the Hot Air Balloon in the Sprites section someday (are you thinking of having it use the extra bit, so that one setting gives you the 16x16 one, and the other gives you the 32x32 one? I thought that might be the best thing to do if you get around to making the 32x32 one).

1. Thanks. I've been looking into trying to fix said sprite myself, and found the cause of the issue appears to be MarioEdit's aiming routine, which contains a table called 'recip_sqrt_lookup'. This is impossible for the tool to convert, hence the problems.

However, what I did realise is that if you replace said routine with PIXI's one (%Aiming()), then the sprite will be converted and will be technically functional in an SA-1 ROM. However, there are still some bugs with the speed of the projectiles being fired, so that'll have to be tweaked a bit.

So yeah, it's all down to the aiming routine, and replacing it will allow the Draglet sprite (as well as the Anuboo one released at a previous C3) to be converted for SA-1 hacks.

2. Sounds good. Those sprites will be very useful for Zelda themed levels in hacks.

Those sprites look amazing. It’s a good job that you posted them this C3.

I have plans for next C3.

I was thinking of a new boss sprite. The Better SMB3 Boom Boom.
This boss sprite acts exactly like in SMB3, just like in this video only it’s created by another hacker. It will give you some ideas. Here is why the boss works.

1. Boom Boom takes 3 jump on him instead of 4 until he dies.
2. Boom Boom will get hit by Mario’s fireballs. Take 9 fireball hits until he dies.
3. Boom Boom gets hit with boomerangs and hammers from LX5’s custom power ups.
4. Boom Boom follows Mario and trip instead of running back and forth.
5. When Mario jump on Boom Boom, it shows score sprites.
6. Boom Boom will have wings or he will jump super high depending on the extra bit.

Another sprite is the swimming Boss Bass that spits out a baby Cheep. This one is made by Koyuki but he never released it. Here is the video.

And one more sprite, the SMB3 twister.
A twister that was seen once in the angry sun level in world 2 of SMB3. If Mario walks close to the twister, it will catch him moving slowly back to the other side without use any move buttons, then it will disappear if it’s at the other so that Mario can move again. To get past the twister, first run faster, than if you get a little close to it, jump over it and then you are out. If you get caught in the twister, you can use the spin jump button to launch Mario up high. The extra bit demonstrates if the twister goes left, right, or stationary.

Can you make Grrrol break blocks and kill enemies.
Kill enemies? May do it when submitting at Sprites section. But grrrols never originally broke blocks, as far as i can recall.

Those are planned but not for the next C3. I guess i'm releasing only my Zelda sprites there.

If it's just that, then select:

Don't forget to get rid of the table and the routine! After this it's basically done, throw it on sa1convert (you might know this lol)
