ITT: We delve back into nostalgia and post the first YouTube video we remember watching along with MAYBE some context for why we watched it.

I'll kick us off! Okay, so the first video I remember watching on YouTube was way back in late 2006. Now it wasn't anything you might expect from back then like viral videos such as the Numa Numa guy, or the video of the laughing baby that got popular during that time. No, instead my first foray into the YouTube realm was actually a mediocre Eminem and Bob the Builder mashup made by some guy named wasakwarrior. The reason I looked this weird, Proto-Siivagunner type of shit up back then was not because somebody had hit me in the head too hard like you might expect, but rather that I had gotten an MP3 player for Christmas (note that it looked something like this). Before giving me the MP3 Player my stepdad and older sister had gone on to LimeWire and downloaded a bunch of songs they thought I would like. This atrocity just happened to be included in that selection of songs.
I remember this Ronald McDonald Insanity video back in 2008. I first watched it in 2010, and then I moved into some McRoll remixes of popular songs like this this remix of Suwako Moriya's theme and the McDonald × Night of Nights mashup.

The first video I remember watching was a guy farting into a lighter, though I can't remember what it was called and I don't want to look through all the garbage videos there are now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The earliest one I remember that I can link to is 25 ways to kill yoshi, when it barely had a couple million views

I think you're the only other person I've ever met who has actually watched that video. Man, I used to fucking love watching stick figure videos back in the day, even made some of my own a few years back. I just love how dated they are nowadays in their sense of humor, it's great. Think it adds to their charm, honestly.
I don't quite remember, but it was most likely trashanimation's pokemon.
It had to have been not long after it was originally uploaded too.
I think I saw a few Google Video videos before Youtube at my secondary school but I can't remember which ones.

As for Youtube though there was that L is Real hoax video that was posted on a few SM64 fan sites I onced used. Taught me about ROM hacking and got me interested in the concept.
a girl sent me this on msn and my dad was watching a movie so i had to watch it on mute and i didnt understand what was happening
like i didnt even understand the concept of watching a youtube video i didnt actually go back to the site until like 2010
ask me if i give a f*ck...
The first Youtube video I ever watched is a tough one because I was like 6 when YT first came out and I messed around on it for a while before losing interest. I do recall seeing some of the original videos by Smosh and Retsupurae and other ""famous"" youtubers of the early days though.

I DO remember though, that it was this speedrun of Fantastic Contraption that was the first video I ever saw that relaunched me back into Youtube (I was finally old enough to understand the website a little more at that point) and really kicked off my obsession with the internet for years to come.

And I'm now realizing that that was almost ten years ago. Where the hell have the years gone.

It was either a Paper Mario or Super Mario RPG playthrough back in 2006/07.

...or did I watch those videos on Google Video? Does anyone else remember that, 'cuz I barely do.

All I remember was that it was 2006 and my brother and I were watching some videos of Street Fighter 3 or something. That was ten years ago. Wow! I'm old.

I remwmber being in 9th grade and I would go to T2's house in the morning since he lived so close to the high school. I didn't have a computer back then, so all the internet action I got was at his house. I remember watching Naruto subtitled and not understanding why he would watch it in Japanese. I also remember watching all the cutscenes from Sonic '06 online because we loved SA2B but neither of us had an xbox360.
I remember back when I was 11 years old I was searching through Google Videos (this was our first computer) before I even knew what Youtube was and came across a very early SuperMarioLogan video. I fell in love with those damn things, haha. And so began my love of Nintendo based videos on the internet, which ultimately led me raocow and SMW hacks #w{=3}

The first YouTube video I remember watching was chuggaaconroy's Let's Play of Super Mario Sunshine around 2011, when I was only 10. My father bought me a GameCube in 2009 and one of the games I was playing was Super Mario Sunshine. I wasn't having the best time finding the blue coins in that game, but then I remembered that we had just acquired broadband internet for the first time (we had dial-up before), so I go look it up on the internet for help on how to get those darn things, and sure enough, I end up stumbling upon his videos.

I remember Chugga had just finished his LPs of Pikmin 2 and Luigi's Mansion and was starting to play through Majora's Mask. I also remember the first episode of TRG that I saw being uploaded after I discovered the channel, which was Part 16 of New Super Mario Bros Wii. Man, it doesn't feel like it's been that long.

I still have a photo of young me watching TRG's Super Smash Bros. Brawl LP on my dad's old laptop running Windows XP. YouTube used to look a bit different back then...

This also made me remember that my family has never been able to afford current-gen consoles. The only time we were able to break that trend was when my father bought me a Nintendo Wii on late 2011, which I played the heck out of until around 2014, when most of its online features had shut down. I wish I could see how many hours I spent playing Mario Kart Wii.

I have almost no hope of ever being able to play the Switch or the 3DS before they get discontinued, but I like to pretend I'm still part of the gaming community, even if I'm several years behind.

You're telling me, buddy... I honestly miss the old Youtube. It was a simpler time.

And yeah same! I bought the Wii for my birthday the year it came out and NEVER stopped playing it! Before that I got the Gamecube for my birthday but not on it's launch day (I would have been like 4, haha).

This reminds me much of my experience. For me, it must have been Spring of 2006 when I found a fan website devoted to Mario and Luigi. I don't remember the site and don't even think it still exists, but I clicked a link that led me to a video on YouTube of a Super Mario 64 mod with rainbow colors.

I haven't worked with Lunar Magic or Toad's Tool 64 in years, but it's ironic that I use YouTube almost everyday, all that starting with a single video about rom-hacking.
My first YouTube video I've ever came across was about 18 Wheels of Steel Haulin, a truck game I was really fascinated with, along with Pedal to the Metal. I'd always turn on my computer to have fun playing them, even though I was still a beginner but I would get the hang of it with time and post some pictures in the dead Orkut. All of it was back in 2007, and I would create my current YouTube account in 2010. These were the good times.

On the other hand, my first YouTube video is now private, but it's basically about my birthday party - I was turning 11 at the time - and my friends were singing the "happy birthday to you" song. Nowadays most of my friends have moved on, but I still meet some of them every now and then.

I have no idea what the very first YouTube video was I've ever watched, but it probably comes around the lines of Megaman765 or Fleskjherta videos most notably SMW/Roblox bloopers. That was like back in 2008-2009.

For the first video that I uploaded was some Pokémon I think it was Roblox video that I stole from some other channel. That was back when the old layout existed where you could comment on others easily and decorate your YouTube channel. I remember this person saying that you did a good job on uploading a video, since I did it to unlock a perk on YouTube. I think it was the accessability to decorate your channel, but I'm not sure.

That video no longer exists since it was on my previous account and some dude that I met on a site asked if I wanted to work together to make a channel which I accepted. Needless to say, he removed my videos and liked a bunch of other Call of Duty videos. I could still access my channel but I couldn't restore them because I removed the original video files off my computer. I also didn't care a lot about it and I lived with it.
I don't remember if it exactly was the very first video I watched, but the first one I can recall was one of the Numa Numa videos, probably that one with Osama bin Laden. Then I also saw that one with a fat guy dancing in front of his PC. My grandpa who sadly doesn't live anymore, did show me both. IIRC, it was back in 2008 when I didn't know about the idea of YouTube and for some reason I was stumbling on random stuff I found.

The very first video I uploaded was a TAS of New Kaizo, a short old kaizo hack some people might still remember after many days, and it was uploaded on July 27th, 2015. It's not the best run, though this one is the fastest out of all New Kaizo TASes. You can still watch this video if you smh want to.

I haven't been uploading any TASes in a while, but now I'm going to be a lot less generous with hacks I play, i.e. make runs of notably better hacks. I'm planning a TAS of Mario is Stupid as the next one.
