EarthBound DeviantArt Hack!
god I can't wait for the grand hack remoderation

I'll contact the ESRB
If we get an AO hack, that'd be some shit man. Only 15 or so games exist with an AO rating.

Well, about that.....

oh god luigi is one of the tags too, when will the poor guy ever catch a break
ikr, being in an h-game is truly a fate worse than death
I like your idea. Usually we just tag [NSFW] or [18+] with textual disclaimers.

Since we're not ESRB, perhaps we could pixel art our own badges too. How about little badges for difficulty too? Like from playthrough, very easy, easy, moderate, difficult, hard, kaizo light, kaizo, pit.

These little icons might look stylish. We could have vanilla, chocolate and any other designations for level design.

I don't see any need honestly. We already have a "mature" tag for hacks that contain sensitive content.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this rating system for games different in some countries?
Twitter
I like ESRB, but a numeric age rating is a more universally objective form of content warning. It also helps with the fact that the ESRB is primarily a US sort of thing and people all over the world come here and submit their hacks into the database.

Not wrong. Example in Japan, they use CERO and PEGI in Europe. Differences is obviously cultural and some are enforced by government.
Modern Redrawn Mario Bros. 1.5 (last update - February 14, 2023, some new bonus frames, tons of minor touchups to various poses)

On Pixel Art Requests: Depends on what it is and if I have the time for it. If its complex and I don't have the time, don't expect me to accept it.

Projects I support:

In Brazil we just use colorful squares with the minimal age in white inside. 10 (blue), 12 (yellow), 14 (orange), 16 (red), 18 (black), and L is for "livre" or "free for all" (green). The rating doesn't say much about the contents, but you can associate a 16+ movie with tits for example, and 18+ with blatant gore or explicit sex.
I would grab some images but I'm on mobile right now. I think it's a cute little system.

Anyway ESRB for hacks is silly. Every hack is either an E, has explicit language or is made by someone horny. We don't need 7 classifications lol. Having something simpler of the same caliber sounds like it would be fun, but also like too much work to pay off.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
This is so dumb, haha.

This would be pointless because 90% of the ratings would go unused. Really, I feel we would only ever see E and Teen. The only time I've ever come across a scenario where it would be worse is when I played a hack called 'Hyper Hentai Hotties' but that was literally just a regular vanilla Mario hack with nothing special about it at all besides some mildly inappropriate message boxes. So even then it would still probably get rated Teen.

But would the mods even have the time and energy to think about whether a hack that's being submitted fits into an ESRB ratings category?

First thing that came to mind: this hack.

I doubt an ESRB rating would be even necessary for our hacks. If a hack includes 18+ content - which about 5% of our hacks have -, it's really as simple as warning the player beforehand, and it would be too much of a hassle to go through every single hack ever just to tag them (given that most of our hacks are an E).
Windowless ride, feeling alive
Are you alive or just breathing?
We don't even need ESRB ratings for hacks on the site as most of these would be classified as E either way. Only few hacks would get a T or M (eventually AO) rating. Though I support our own stylish icons for three categories: no unsuitable material, mild/infrequent mature content and prominent/frequent mature content. For each hack that contains questionable content there should be warnings in the same place as icons.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Yoshiatom's Post
This feels like an over-enginered solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Just having red text to point out anything inapropiate should be more than enough.

...on another note is there any good reason why some people put NSFW content in their hacks? It seems pointless to me.

Some people got riled up when they made their hacks. Or they wanted others to be exactly that.

If it's not one of these two... Yeah then I dunno.

Same reason you'd put NSFW in a regular video game, it's an artistic choice.
Or the dev is just a horndog.

I'm not sure we need ESRB or some rating system for the games here. Almost all of them don't feature NSFW content, but if they do, red text should be enough. No need for a whole rating system for a few games that went out of their way.
