Super Mario Maker 2: Surprasing Fusoya's Lunar Magic expectations since 1889

The last Nintendo Direct revealed the Super Mario Maker 2.
What do you think about this? Tell your thoughts.

In this trailer you can do everything:

-Slopes
-New enemies
-3D World
-Snake Blocks and Piranha Plants
-New special effects for levels

If they added Overworld Editor, Koopalings, Reznors and SA-1, we will have a Lunar Magic ripoff.

Nintendo: Surprasing the Fusoya's Lunar Magic expectations since 1889.

With this, sayonara to the Lunar Magic.
Tell this to Fusoya.
To be fair, none of that was Lunar Magic exclusive things..

The only interesting thing ive seen in the trailer was new powerups..

but nintendo expect people to make real levels when most of people will keep making even more dumb stuff..

If theres still the possibility of spamming enemies and creating dev paths with no real content at all, Smm2 will be the same dumb game as the original

I disagree. To me, playing random people's garbage levels was actually quite fun and a major appeal of the game.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Yeah.. ive actually never played mario maker.

But ive watched a bit, and watching people playing random garbage to me is not fun at all.
Not saying there arent good levels. Some are quite amazing, but most likely 95% of the things ive watched are just dumb stuff.

Maybe playing is a different thing.. i will probably never know.
The game does have voting systems and categories where you get the best-voted levels first, so it's pretty easy to just play the "good" levels for people who aren't interested in the rest. You only get the garbage levels when playing 100 Mario challenge, which uses random levels, but to me that's a major part of the appeal since it's basically like gambling. Just in case it's also possible to skip levels, though.

Super Mario Maker 2 is the best, you have lot of features not avaible in Lunar Magic. I can't wait to play it soon! My favourite of the Nintendo Direct.

It will replace romhacking when it gets released soon. At this point there is no reason in making romhacks anymore since Mario Maker 2 exists. #smrpg{sad}
mario maker 2 is amazing but y'all HAVE TO BE jestin' when you say it's gonna replace things like custom music, bosses, graphics, literally anything that can be done in ASM, etc. etc.

like how are you gonna make something like sicari or wakana land in mario maker 2 lmao

You can if you have the creativity to create it.
Super Mario Maker 2 and the wii version already allowed to have
interesting custom bosses and mechanics. (thanks to sprite spawners and key drops)
You can't have unfitting music in Mario Maker.

It's a mario game after all, make your imaginations free.
I think ROM hacking SMW might be a bit endangered for a little while after it comes out and everyone scurries to try it, but after that it's back to LM buisness.

That said, hoo boy am I excited for this game! All those new ideas look to give you endless possibillities. Only thing I really really want next is a way to make proper adventures with world maps, something that LM has an edge over for now.
I actually see Super Mario Maker 2 as an improvement to the SMW Hacking scene, because the really really low effort stuff, such as the tropes about invisible blocks, cutoff/bad level design and unfair traps are now more associated with Mario Maker than SMW hacks.

Nothing against Kaizo, it's a great type of hack as well. I'm just talking about the low-effort bad quality hacks that offered little enjoyment to pratically anyone.

anyone want to play super expert?

I am going to go ahead and say that I doubt the activity on the site will be affected by the MM2 release, so to say that it's going to replace romhacking is an exageration. I could list more than a thousand reasons on why it won't replace romhacking, but I will start with the most important one in my opinion: making a ROM hack feels like making your own game, while using MM to design your levels does not.

Besides that, it's clear that even with the new features the capabilities of ROM hacking are far, far ahead the ones MM provides.
Have to say, the announcement of Mario Maker 2 was pretty surprising (but pleasant) to me. Loved how the first thing that the trailer showed off was slopes. XD

I'll be sure to get it when it comes out.

I know I can't get a Switch or Wii or whatever console, so these Mario Maker games are out of reach for me anyway.
Also, wouldn't see myself emulating them either, mostly due to lack of time and disinterest.

I'm gonna stay on LM for Mario editing.
Also, LM is limited to SMW; SMM and SMM2 are using their own engine, so it should be obvious they're better/worse and different than LM.

I'm not sure it's going to affect activity on SMW editing that much, it's not the same thing. For MM you're limited to a single level with pipes/doors to travel through it; you can do that and more with SMW. I've never tried Mario Maker, only watched a few vids of others playing levels, so most of what I wrote might be wrong.

C'mon, man, I try my best.

I think the first Mario Maker used either SMB1 or NSMB physics for all styles. It made SMW-style levels painful to play if you were very familiar with SMW. Each game style already had its own differences, so I think it would be better to emulate the game movement as much as possible.
I'm quite looking forward to this new installment. I got a little worried at the beginning of the trailer because everything looked quite the same and thought the major new addition would be slopes, but as the video went there appeared to be a lot of cool new things to play around with.
All this time I was hoping for a SMM port for the Switch but I think getting a sequel instead just exceeds expectations. Tho I wonder if Nintendo is going to go on a take-down spree once this game is released. Also wonder if I will end up attempting to make any Kaizo-light levels.

I don't think this will replace ROM hacking since not everyone owns or can afford a Switch, and ROM hacking is more about making your own game, but I do like how I won't need to worry about sprite limits or SA-1. I was kinda thinking about getting a Switch anyway even before this, but this has made that desire stronger.
Legacy custom music
A site with a non-useless dislike button
SMW hacking channel

So I did some testing with lunar magic and there is a discrepancy in the Mario Maker 2 trailer. Mario slides and knocks out a bunch of enemies and the dry bones should bounce mario up as he becomes a bone pile.

It makes me wonder what happens if you slide at a dry bones in the New Super Mario Bros games.

You can't find any slopes in New Super Mario Bros. castle levels so you can't slide down dry bones.

In SMW hacking, you can make use of glitches even by accident. But Super Mario Maker 2 doesn't have any glitches and has it's own engine, so it's better to work with that.
...mario maker 2 is totally going to have glitches lol

unintended things aren't always a bad thing either, like 1F0 for example
