The truth behind the Castle End Sequences

Hey, have you ever wanted to have your custom bosses trigger Castle End Sequences, and the End Game sequence? Well... I've discovered how said End Sequences work. Sorta. I don't know the code behind them, but I can safely say I know how to make them trigger with ANY sprite. :D All you really need is the Level Ender sprite from Sprite Tool. Seriously.

Now... Here's the thing. Yes, the Boss Level Modes are there so bosses like Reznor, Bowser, and most of the Koopalings can work. But did you know that they play a more important role? They are all you need to trigger a castle end sequence. NO. LIE. Try it. Place Level Ender on a level with a Boss Level Level Mode. Upon entering the level, you will most likely view garbage, if you placed any tiles on the screen. Ignore this stuff, as you're running a test. :O You will also have the level end, if you placed the sprite on the starting screen. If you set up the Castle End Sequences correct for your test level, you should see said Sequence come up after the level is over. :D If not, you seriously did something wrong...

As for how I stumbled upon this... It was during a playthrough of VIP & Wall Mix 3, also known as VIP Mario 3. I got all the way to the final boss (seriously), and realized that it was a custom boss....YET IT STILL TRIGGERED THE END GAME SEQUENCE. This made me wonder about the level mode... I did a few tests, and my suspicions were confirmed. :D So there. Enjoy this amazing knowledge, guys. (Also, if you're wanting to know how to pass that level "SACRIFICE", PM me. I know how.)

Edit: Hang on a second... There's one thing I forgot... Wendy, Lemmy, and Reznor can all be used outside of the Boss Level level modes... The former two always on normal level modes, the latter normally used in a Boss Level mode. Hmm... More research needs to be done...
Actually, you can make the Boss Sequence play after killing any normal enemy if you use Level Ender. Just have it play the Boss Victory music instead of the Normal Victory music.

One of my custom bosses is based off Birdo, and I use Level Ender to clear the level when he's beaten. It still triggers the Boss Sequence.

Furthermore, I have another custom boss based off Birdo and a few other sprites, with the level-ending code embedded into it that triggers when the sprite is killed. It, too, triggers the Boss Sequence. And it too also uses the Boss Victory music instead of the Normal version.

Curiouser and curiouser... :P

Hmm... Really? Interesting indeed... More research must be done, yes?

Only if that sort of thing is your cup of tea... I say, if it works, no need to test the Powers That Be.

But then again I hate research... XD

Well, I know one thing- Music doesn't seem to matter. It works for me with NORMAL music! ...I still want to know exactly how this works, because my custom level-ending block, "Star Block", plays music, but DOESN'T end the level....perhaps it has to specifically be from a sprite?

Perhaps it has something to do with whether or not Mario walks at the level end or not? 'Cause I know none of the boss fights has him walking... same with the Level Ender sprite and level ending code in my boss sprites that I use... and in the original SMW, when he collects the ?-sphere he doesn't walk, and that triggers the earthquake sequence, which may or may not count as a boss sequence (actually I don't think it does)...

Actually, it DOES. Otherwise, it wouldn't be in the Boss Sequence dialog. :P

And it can't be walking. My block doesn't make you walk. Yes, it makes the level end via ? Sphere due to a certain address, but... That animation never kicks in. O_o We should probably run more tests at a later date...

What for, though? It's not a bad thing that the Boss Sequence has the OPTION to run more frequently with the new sprites and stuff than it did before we had them... I mean, if we couldn't control what levels the Boss Sequence ran at, yeah it would be a problem. But we can.

If it's for curiosity's sake, go for it, but I still don't think there's much of a reason to worry about something that's actually behooving us... v_v

If the level is vertical or a boss level Mario doesn't move at the end.

We already knew all that stuff about the level ender activating the castle end thingies.
