Hotel California was a side project that I was going to use for the Halloween level contest. However, due to my perfectionism, I've basically turned it into a full blown hack even though it's only one level. Many of you may find it "comparable" in size to a chapter in a Paper Mario game.
This game will have a few unique features that push the RPG elements even further
-First half of the game (to some degree) has no enemies whatsoever
-Completely overhauled GFX
-Inventory system that allows mario to pass further into the game by collecting different important items
-NPC sprites/blocks galore, coupled with interactive cutscenes
What is an interactive cutscene you may ask?
Well, interactive cutscenes use a block that performs different tasks based on button press to allow mario to interact within a cutscene. Whether it's furthering a conversation, reading a book, or picking what you want out of a vending machine, interactive cutscenes will appear in a lot of places.
Screenshots:

A somewhat generic, yet clean looking overworld.

(Status bar is intentionally disable on this pic for a better view)

The front desk. Also notable in this picture is the elevator partially in view on the right. Elevators act like doors, but pressing up makes you go up a floor, and pressing down makes you go down a floor.

The second floor. Note that each has it's own unique palette.

The third floor houses the Penthouse. Get enough money to rent it out and you never know what might happen.

The bar. Yes Mario's old enough to drink. Don't question it.

An interactive book on Hotel California's history. What secrets might it contain?
Okay, so that's about it, and you guys can probably expect a release sometime around Christmas.

Looks simple. But I like the idea!
Now all you need is the Eagles in your hack ;D

Aww, nice!
(Can I beta test?)
Seriously, that looks really good. Is it a haunted theme?

Wow, this is a really simple idea but looks amazing!
You should incorporate some Hotel mario aspects into it. (I wont blame you if you dont).

The graphical style is very nice, and the hack sounds like it will be very interesting and mysterious. My only suggestion would be to add a roof to the hotel in the second screenshot, more like how it is on the overworld. Really looking forward to this though.

The titular song as custom music, perhaps?

Wow this is so awesome that I'm speechless. This is definitely, by far, my 2nd favorite attraction at C3. (2nd only to Smallhacker's! Sorry Spigmike!) The graphics are amazing, especially the graphics at the entrance. Are they all self-made? Lemme guess... M16-7k? Anyways, the Cutscene blocks are really creative, are you thinking of releasing them? If you would, that would be awesome... although, they might be abused a bit. Lol at the bar, will Mario be able to get drunk? (Wavy HDMA effects?)
Incredible work, keep it up Spigmike. I can't wait to play this marvelous hack.
