Which style is this? Are you talking about shell jumps again? If you are, then I will tell you that that is my only level that will even have shell jumps, all the other levels will be much different. For instance, the next level I'm working on places you as a rocket ship flying through a level dodging objects. Then you run out of fuel. If you hit any object, you explode. Yeah, that's going to be fun :)

Yup, I was talking about shelljumps. The fuel idea seems quite nice, I believe something similar can be found in Super Mario for the Gameboy Colour. That level had one awesome boss fight :)
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

More insane kaizo stuff :D

Now I just need some inspiration for the third part of the level. xD

@Patgangster, FTW. That was amazing, but I somehow think you could use the "unstep a P-Switch" glitch with the Yoshi... I don't know how that would be of use, or do I...?

But, yeah. Try using TRIPLE SHELL JUMPS. Don't use the quadruple shell jumps, though, because I'm still running tests. *shifty eyes*
Either that, or use double key jumps. Think about it: You find a pit with two keys, you would only pick up one, and you find that at the end of the level, you needed BOTH of them (example, you make a machine that you kick the keys into it, the key cannot come out, by using clouds, ropes, etc. and dispenses items like mushrooms, that you need two of to pass).

Hm, that would be possible, yes. You'd have to carry multiple P-switches to the end then though, and it was hard enough to get one across that. xD

That's actually one of the things I'm not going for in this hack. Nice idea though. :P

I guess I could abuse this, or something close to it :D

you are still able to get the key at 0:56. after you press that p-switch at 1:07 the brown block turns into a coin. So you could make the player have to use ALL 3 KEYS at the end :D
(by the way, to get up there you keyjump)

I might put some sort of signature here once. I guess.

...How the heck didn't I see THAT?
Meh, instead of rebuilding the last part of the level to require all three keys, I went for the very simple fix:

Clouds FTW.

@Patgangster, amazing! That work was more acute than that of the Mona Lisa. I have concerns to improve it moreover (hooray, I sound super fancy).
You can maybe make a mushroom maze-esque trap around the yellow switch blocks, to improve difficulty. I have no clue how, but still.

I'm truly amazed at your work, Pat. I'm thinking about possibly making a Collab-hack with select users, to make the hardest hack ever :D
May my dream become a reality, we may never know.

Meh, after thinking, this doesn't work anyway. You can still get the key. That's what happens when I try to fix my kaizo hack at 1AM. xD
Minor change made, and you now need the third key to finish the level :D

That was my problem too, I couldn't think of a good way to make a mushroom maze there. Thanks for the suggestion though. ^^

I already played the first up to the end of world 3. I really should try and play/TAS more of that, it's a great hack. ^^

Oooh, can I join? :)

@Pat: It looks really nice, but I'm going to be a critic (sorry for that). Even though this is quite hard (damn you keyjumps) the level is quite straightforward; you hit a block, get a blue Pow and recollect your keys. You added some nice touches with the star and the springboard, but it still seems quite obvious what to do...

Your first video Pat: DARN YOU! I was planning on using the Double Yoshi glitch in my final level, and now you beat me to it! Dammit.

@Mapsking: In your level a grinder didn't spawn making a jump impossible... I edited your level so the entrance is right after that jump, and I broke it just a bit more. But now I'm stuck at the section with the shell and blue solid block, I can hit those moving coins without problems but I don't have a Pow, were you supposed to bring one from the start?
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Sadistic Designer - testing Pit without tools.
Hi,I'm starting a new kaizo hack, designed to be as tough as possible without requiring tools. It will be a long 1 level hack. I'm also trying to make it break-proof, since some of the greatest kaizo hacks out there can be bypassed in some ways. I will only show screenshots of what I have personally tested for possibility.

Here is the intro:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2hfj4pc.jpg

Here is the first part of the level:
http://i45.tinypic.com/2zh05ls.jpg

It's trickier than it looks!

Notice that I'm trying to minimize cutoff and muncher spam to make a polished kaizo hack. Keep an eye out for more pics!
(No current projects, lost them all.....)

DeviantArt Account: http://artsyambassadorart.deviantart.com/
To everyone that wants to be in the collab, you can be part of it, so long you are good at
-Level design (GOOD LEVEL SCHEMES, no floating munchers, but I might just YY-CHR them all into blocks)
-Sadism (again, good level design, but insane, and knows how to use glitches and such techniques used to break hacks, test, etc. To the player's disadvantage)
And could someone please insert custom music into the ROM after a few levels are designed? I kinda want a few songs inserted into it, like Never Gonna Give You Up (Rick Astley), Chocolate Rain (Tay Zonday) and maybe a Lamb of God song or two (hey, what says HOLY CRAP, I'M SCREWED than epic heavy metal?).

But, yeah. There are a few problems about the Collab idea, though, like being able to send the levels to eachother and such... I don't know how to do that, unless people each make a ROM with a few crazy levels inserted that I can copy-paste into the Collab... Regardless, I'll still need the music :P

I'm looking forward to making an epic crazy collab with you all eventually!
We just save it as a MWL file, then we put it up in My Files and then you download it, and open it in your hack in lunar magic.
@Artsy3: It looks nice, a bit too easy in my opinion. Also why not move everything to left a few screens? This will prevent cutoff screen scrolling...
Also try creating some custom corner tiles with map16, all the 8x8 tiles are ready for use, you just need to add them properly.

@LegendaryMMAT: People can save levels to file and upload those files, you just need to avoid overlap of level numbers. So make a list of which person uses which level number and which secondary exit numbers (you don't need a lot of those, just use level entrances instead) and whenever somebody whishes to join appoint some free level and secondary entrance numbers.
Then there's only the OW to take care of (I looooove making overworlds, if only 1) I had more time and 2) I wouldn't waste so much space per level XD. In my hack I use 4 submaps for 4 levels and dump the other 7 levels on two more maps. In short: in a couple of weeks/months I could make you a neat overworld).
Ow and there will be stuff like intro screen, final level, first level etc. etc. to be arguing about, but all that can be solved. It looks like all we need is more people!

About the 'being good at level design', a lot of works I see are really straightforward. It's really hard to place useless objects/sprites in Kaizo hacks without giving away too much, but try to do so. Random decoration really makes a level harder, and more fun to play!!!

Edit: Ninji'd! (wait... there's no bar reading edited at...)

Speaking of which, I would love to be a part of this collab.

BTW: Could I make a very demanding request?
I was hoping the criteria for entering the collab would be really hard. This because a lot of the Kaizo Levels made contain very similar elements, making a hack that has these elements 'one among the many'. I would like a collab that is to be the 'hardest hack ever' (which will mean: 'hardest hack so far') to stand out a little.

Now I personally hate shelljumps and therefore think that they shouldn't be in the hack, unless combined with some crazy elements like
-Having to hit a block with the shell (still too easy!)
-Having a fixed landing spot for the shell, as you need it later. And not just 'one of these tiles' or even 'it has to land on this tile', I'm talking pixel-perfect.
-Some obscure glitch.

Ah, I'm not cutting edge here. My point is that I would like the collab to contain NOTHING that can be found in other hacks as well, I'm hopinh it to become a hard Kaizo hack consistiong of entirely new elements only. With 'select users' from this site that shouldn't be much of a problem; the only point is that you wouldn't be able to submit levels from other hacks (including your own).
As you might have noticed I'd really like to help in organising the thing, making rules, decisions etc., and also I'm quite pushy. So I'm going to back off for now, please keep everybody informed of developments =)
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Sadistic Designer - testing Pit without tools.
Sadistic Designer, you don't necessarily have to MAKE the hack, but you can still be part of the Collab, though! You can help pick out the best Kaizo hacks and their creators, and by testing to make sure it can only be broken where you WANT it to be broken! IT IS ALL WORK'D OUT :D

EDIT: HOLY CRAP, 80TH PAGE! Celebration dance party :)
