This is a very important and majour update regarding Origin Metroid Saga, as a serie.
There will be an Origin Metroid Saga II, which will also use this thread.
Together, they complete the entire Metroid saga, storylinewise and characterwise.
Everything involving Samus, the Chozo, and the Metroid is shown within these games.
Also, I'd like to welcome Azure and Supertails to the credits.
They'll be working as advisors for updates as well as beta testing.
Just as well, I have completed the Origin Metroid Saga commercial video.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/H5U3-tDwv3o&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/H5U3-tDwv3o&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Finally, regarding the official release of Origin Metroid Saga as a serie.
Since there will be two Origin Metroid Sagas, I'm holding the release of both.
They will each be released at the same time in late May or early June.
I will, however, release the official demo during C3 as well as more updates.

Hello, my name is

So the author of this hack asked me in the most roundabout manner on IRC to moderate this thing before it goes public. Well here are some SUPER HOT UNOFFICIAL GAME SCREENSHOTS, presented in the familiar ROM Hack Removal format!
Roll that beautiful bean footage!
----------------

The logo doesn't really stand out too well on this background. And the background is a mish-mash of dark gray and black... (turn up the contrast!)

That... doesn't look very good at all It's like you tried to whip something up in MSPaint. Protip: Metroid 1's art style wasn't the best. ;)

After waiting for the intro music to play, the intro text from Zero Mission appears... now I have to wait the same amount of time before I can continue on. Wait wait, so you're just recreating Metroid 1 with SMW's engine? W... why?!

A swooper in Metroid?

And this is one of its flying animations.

Rather than be able to get items, you just have the same Maru Mari that refills health. But what's more important is that I was able to jump out of your item room, leaving me up here, with my only exit being death to the left. This will most likely get you declined.

This is what you get for not giving me a proper Maru Mari - breaking free of room 2: electric boogaloo.

...the heck is that thing on the left with jumping pirahna propeller leaves supposed to be?

I stepped on the Kraid statue and this happened!

Once again I was able to break free while searching for the Varia Suit. Thankfully I could easily return to where I entered (I smashed some blocks in the ceiling, strange enough).

Really couldn't capture it fast enough, but the vertical positioning of this level's enterance was off (camera was way up). Also, did you notice the blocks on the door aren't correctly flipped? You can fix this with the Map16 editor and changing the individual X/Y flip of each 8x8 tile.

Okay... unkillable Bullet Bill is not what this enemy is. Also, arbitrary spawn point means surprise attacks on you. Not cool.

Here I found a Ridley statue, not unlike the one that was with the Kraid statue, and it did the same thing!

ahahaha oh god this one
I grabbed the throw block, and got hit by the enemy juuust right so that I instantly sunk into the ground and started going to the left. When I touched the wall, I died. Yes I was able to duplicate it.
----------------
Suggestions? First, learn about screen boundaries and scrolling limits. The main reason Metroid has hatches was because it masked loading the next room. You should either do the same (each room is literally its own little level) or do away with hatches.
Second, look into working with more custom sprites, or sprite editing tools, to improve your enemies. Third, seriously consider a different sprite style. Even if you have to, heaven forbid, make your own sprites from scratch in your own, original style, and attract a lot more positive attention.
----------------
You are a balloon, soaring into the clouds; I am an anchor, bringing you back down to the Earth.
----------------
EDIT: Here are my rebuttals to the author's replies to my critique.
Quote<Sepharos> By the way, you really should read the storyline, otherwise this game will confuse you. Uhhh, you mean I have to read a wall of text to understand this game? That's not how Metroid works. Metroid starts you off with a simple, informationless backstory (Samus recieves a distress call from a derelect freighter, she goes to respond,) then through gameplay (the freighter was really a Space Pirace ship doing strange biological experiments, and Samus goes to find out what they are doing on the nearby planet) and exploration (the planet was the home of the Chozo, but was corrupted by a strange meteor, and this corrupting substance is also a powerful mutagenic substance Space Pirates have been using to produce supersoldiers,) the player learns the complete story.
You're doing it backwards.
Quote<Sepharos> I think you should play through K-2L and Norion. I got to Tourian, but the Metroids... really pissed me off something fierce, and I stopped playing.
Quote<Sepharos> By the way, each room is its own level. I meant don't show the other rooms, as in each room shows only its room and not any others.
Quote<Sepharos> Is there anything you disliked about the playing style? Super Mario World's engine does not make for a very good Metroid game, plain and simple.

Oh God, reading that last post really hits home how much of a craptastic designer I was.
I really need to put a lot more time and effort into this if I want it to be playable.
I've decided that I'm going to scale back a quite a bit, polish the ASM patches as well as create a few demo areas.
