General art forum rules:

  1. You must put genuine effort and hard work into creating your art!
Anything that looks too simplistic and/or looks like if it was made in a few minutes will be nuked on sight.

  2. If you are going to write a multi-part story, keep everything related to your story in one thread.
Be it a series or even just Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc., don't create separate threads for every part/chapter. Not only is it better organized, it also keeps the forum from getting cluttered.

  3. Don’t post your own art in other’s threads.
Art threads are personal. Don't post your own (or other's) stuff in art threads that aren't yours unless the OP has invited you to!

A word on criticism

When you decide to post something here--be it a drawing, music, or what-have-you--you need to keep in mind that people will comment and give you feedback. They might praise you, but they will more likely criticize your work for one reason or another. Here are a few basic things to keep in mind in regards to criticism:
  1. Don't assume you have the final say or the best opinion!
Your voice is just one of many. Feel free to defend your art if people criticize you, but constantly attacking people's opinions will end up looking bad on your part. Similarly, if you have something you'd like to say about someone's art, remember that everyone has different opinions of equal value.

  2. Being critical does not give you the right to be mean!
Give your opinions with tact, and others will do you the same favour. Do not try to hide flaming behind criticism, and do not outright insult people. If you are caught flaming or being needlessly mean, you'll be out of here before you can say, "forum baned."

  3. If you honestly cannot accept criticism, don't bother posting your art!
Seriously, when you put something on display, you have to be prepared for people to criticize you. Don't take it as a personal attack--take it as a means of improving your skills. If you simply cannot do that, then don't put something on display.

Allowed Material

Here is a list of allowed material. You can expect anything you post that is not on this list to be deleted. However, we might have missed a spot. Please PM an art forum moderator before you post if you are in doubt.
  1. Original music (i.e. your own compositions)
  2. Reconstructed music (i.e. you did your best to copy a piece of music without using any special tools)
  3. Remixed music (i.e. you reconstructed parts of a piece of music and arranged in your own unique way)
  4. Original drawn art (may depict characters not created by you)
  5. Original pixel art (no copying, except if used for a sprite comic)
  6. Redesigned pixel art (this includes pokemon splices)
  7. Original stories (must have a decent length before you post it)
  8. Original poems
  9. Original animations
  10. Original short films
  11. Original comics (must have at least 5 strips before you post it)
  12. Original artistic photography (sceneries, objects, photos telling a certain story, etc)

Guys, I would really appreciate it if, from now on, you would link to your images rather than putting them right in your posts. This will make it easier for people on older computers or with poor connections to browse the various threads.

Thank you.
Updated to accommodate the new Splicing thread.
New update. There really isn't anything new this time, I just merged this thread with a few other stickies that were floating around this forum.
