Tip: Don't edit the 8x8 tile of the upper right hand corner of the sideways walking Koopa Troopa in GFX01 (unless you want your coin sparkles to look glitchy).

(I hope no one has made a thread like this.) How do you have decided to be a hacker? When I was 13 years old (it was in january 2004), I was surfing on internet, searching informations about SMW. Then I got a Lunar Magic page, then I was directly in love with this software. (fortunately I didn't have a girlfriend). Like many people, I was a crappy 105 editor and I have started a hack called Cyber mario world (this title is a proof of my hacking level). This hack stills unfinished, but I submitted it on another site, and of course no one enjoyed it. Then I was discouraged and I have stopped hacking in july 2004. In december 2006, I don't know why, but I wanted to start a completly new hack, different from my first crappy hack. I wanted to do a great hack, so I have read tutorials about ExGFX, custom blocks and sprites, and I have learned about overworld (my first hack has an unmodified one). And finally I got a hack with ripped ExGFX, a lot of custom blocks and custom sprites, and with (I hope) a correct level design.
Ever since I played Super Mario World, I wanted to make my own levels for it. So, I searched for a level editor, and lo and behold, there was Lunar Magic. Then, I was told I would need a ROM and an emulator. I found those too, and so I started hacking.
Yoshi's Island was the first game I played and to this day, is my favorite game.
I knew about rom hacking for awhile(Yet I was highly turned off due to youtube hacks) but when I found eggvine on zophars domain, my life changed and I entered rom hacking.
I never regret entering the world of rom hacking.
When did I start hacking SMW and Why?
Recently actually.About the beginning of last year, I started hacking SMW.I always wanted to make a platformer with an epic storyline and YI is too difficult to work with.
I was looking for glitches in Super Mario World on You Tube, instead found hacks, got interested, and started hacking myself.
I dont remember exactly but I was looking for SMW glitches, like above, then found Lunar Magic from a video. Then I got interested, and made crappy hacks (lol, I didnt release them on Youtube), until I found this site. Then I started to improve, use Ctrl+del and stuff lol. So in other words: I started hacking thanks to youtube. >_>
I was surfing on www.nintendo.de when I found a SMW video link. It leaded me to Youtube and then on youtube I searched more when I found about Lunar Magic and tried it out. I liked it. Then I saw a video of AtomicShroom (Yes...^^) where in his description sayed something about smwcentral. Then I found this site and there ya go. ^^
I'd rather forget my earliest hacking years. Anyone who asks me about them from now on will be banned.
Since I was 6, I wanted to make my own levels for this game. And now I can!
This is a bit like one of my threads, but who cares?

I always enjoyed creating custom levels, I used to draw them on paper. Then one fateful day, I was searching for Mario related things and came across a Youtube SMW hack. You know the rest :P

Yeah, me too. I drew them as large as it fitted on the paper, so it wouldn't fit in Lunar Magic. I don't even know where those pictures are... probably dead.
I once drew enemies on paper, saying, "These will be so cool if they are in a game"... so i go to youtube and a video being watched was a mario hack, not just any mario hack, atomicshrooms!
I originally started seriously hacking when I saw videos on Youtube of good levels. Then I found SMW central, and started (seriously) hacking.

And AtomicShroom, I used to draw them on paper too! I would always draw long ghost houses.
about 1997:me getting my first game Super mario world.
Some years later i wish to make my own games in draw levels on paper.
mars 2007:i rencently discovred youtube..
searched for mario and found some funny videos (including some of megaman765) searched more and found some (crappy) LM videos and was yust like `WOW´(lucky enough i hadn´t a youtube accout then) and Googled Lunar magic(me findig the ROM and coming here is another story).
i dont know how i found this website, but i saw SMW hacks on youtube too.
I had this idea for a game, called Captain awesomepants (sweet name eh?) and I drew the levels on paper. They reminded me of smb3. I downloaded a level editor for smb3 (I was already way into roms) and after realizing it sucked, seeked out a new mario game to edit, and seeing as smw was my second favourite I googled and found lunar magic. I got it (from this site actually) and my imagination bloomed.
