I just hope that the level signups won't start while I'm asleep, so that all the spots for my planned levels haven't already been taken by the time I wake up and can log on again...

Even if the overworld is done, level signups will only begin once I've figured out the best method for allocating Levels, Secondary Exits and Map16 tiles. I'm thinking of signups for the latter two as well but I'm unsure how to organize them. Don't worry though, hopefully it won't take too long to figure this all out.

Maby ? Secondary Exits depending on what kind of level your making.
Map16 tiles - Evryone making levels decides what stuff they all want to use, we have a vote, and the best stuff will be the stuff we all use?
One question - Will there be any problems with the palates?

I talked to Hach. He's going to take care of the map16 tiles.
As for your question, palettes shouldn't be a problem ever.

What about level messages, for levels with NPCs and such?

Well, Secondary exits would depend on what extra levels someone uses. Like, secondary exit #025 for someone using levels 1 and 25.
But if we're talking in concept about secondary exits that lead to the same level they start in, well, don't. It's hard to think of a reason for this.

Like Caracc said, you should automatically receive one secondary entrance that uses the same number as the level you are making. Any excess (there aren't going to be 512 levels I assume) should be given out on a first come first served basis.
Just my idea.

Okay guys, we have a problem. Just something minor, but still a problem.
The hardcoded paths. You know, stuff like CI2's secret exit. See, Toad Town is set to Level 24, and when you buy a CERTAIN SOMETHING, an event activates, and to keep you from moving away, the direction is set to DOWN. Problem is...LEVEL 24. DOWN MEANS YOU FOLLOW THE HARDCODED PATH. I can't seem to disable them AT ALL. I need help figuring out where the code for them starts and ends so I can just jump right past it! D: ARGH. This is one of the LAST hurdles I have in the OW... Really, everything else is done!
Also, on that note, rejoice! I miscounted the levels, so I had one left over! I put it on Peach's Castle, BUT YOU HAVE TO UNLOCK IT! ;) (Guess how. Go on, guess.)

Would this happen to be what you are looking for?

Chocolate Island 3 - Chocolate Fortress (both directions)
Chocolate Island 2 - Pipe (only CI2 -> Pipe)
(Does not affect Front Door - Star Road path)

I said in the thread I posted in Advanced hacking that I won't use that method. All it does is it changes the level it checks to use the paths on to 0, which is used for pipes. D: Thus, WHY IN THE WORLD IS IT IN THE ROM MAP? THAT IS AN EXTREME SIDE-EFFECT THAT SHOULDN'T BE LEFT IN. :|
So no. I'm not looking for that method as it is utterly useless to me. It just shifts the problem from one level to another.

Oh this one is easy. You need to win all the levels in toad town sewers place.

Alright, so let mario move in a direction after buying the SECRET THING. It won't hurt Mario to move a little anyway.
Also, I would assume that the normal exit of toad town will take you to Peach's castle.

Do you have to use Level 24? Can you find another viable level number to use instead?
Or, since changing those bytes just alters what level gets checked for a hard-coded path, can you shift it to another level (like 1FF) and just not have anybody use it?

1: Okay, if you guys are fine with it doing that... (Also, said SECRET THING is the SECRET WORLD.)
2: Oh, and the level, too. Glad to see no one got it. My idea is simple: After getting the Special World palette activated, which is gained by clearing every single level in the Special World, but not the same way SMW did it, you can buy a NEW level from a shop in Toad Town- Peach's Castle. ;)
Also, a note about Special World... Every three levels, you open something new. 3 levels in, you unlock the new palettes. 6 levels in, the amount you see from the beginning, you unlock the new enemy graphics. However, the sixth level has a secret exit, which leads to a seventh level; clearing THAT is what gets you the special world palette. ;)
...Sorry for keeping ideas secret, guys. I just...hate spoiling my grand ideas to EVERYONE, and this forum IS public... I'm really worried that people won't play through half this stuff 'cause they already know the plans...
EDIT: chainfire: Well, I can't put it on 1FF, because it only applies to OW levels- 0 through 24, 101 through 13B. So, in all, FF, because from 25 on, DC is added to get the right level...
As for your other idea, WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?! I COULD EASILY SWAP PEACH'S CASTLE AND TOAD TOWN! GREAT! *does so*
EDIT2: The overworld is done, I just have to wait until tomorrow to get it to FirePhoenix! In the meantime, here is what the overworld currently looks like:
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/763/overworld.png
(Linked to it due to the fact that the image is big vertically.)
Note that I added more forts, ghost houses, and cave tiles. ...Well, one more fort, but still... (I couldn't find any good places to put them. I don't believe that putting one at the start or end is a good idea... Heck, nearly all the ones in the original SMW were secret levels, anyway...)

Oh man, I like the way that oceam world turned out, it's pretty neat and mixed. The desert is pretty damn cool too.
But say, can we get a glimpse of what it looks like with all the paths revealed?

That overworld looks really nice, probs to you.
Though I dislike the castles and the pipes colors. Perhaps you could use palette 2 and 3 for those and re-color them? (Layer 1 tiles can use palette 0-3 without any bad sideeffects)
