For those who don't go to IRC, you may not have known this, but SMWC recently got a 'radio' of sorts. Kieran is hosting it on his server, and I am in charge of handling the stream and the music played on my laptop. We've got about 600 songs on there now (35 hours worth of music) with more coming in constantly.
-View the status of the radio here, including things such as the recent songs played, whether the radio is currently up or not, and more.
-If you want to tune in to the stream, click here. The preferred player is Winamp, but others use Windows Media Player, so that should be fine as well.
The radio also has an IRC channel on irc.caffie.net called #radio. From there, we have created a guide and given a link in the topic which shows you how and where to upload music. If you don't use IRC, you can simply PM me with a link to the song (or songs) that you want added, and I will put them up ASAP.
Enjoy, and tune in whenever you'd like.
(oh, I should also note that the radio has all different kinds of music, from video games, famous bands, etc, so if a song is on that you're not too fond of, just wait - something you like will come on soon.)

Er, no. That isn't the point of the radio. If you want to advertise something, use your sig.

Sounds interesting. But will there be like, podcasts, talking about upcoming events and such?
Also, will users be able to PM whoever is in charge of the radio thing to request songs? I know this a fuction on many popular radio station where I live.

With the exception of people uploading crappy SPC's and the like, the radio's pretty cool and it's certainly interesting to hear other peoples' tastes in music. I'd highly recommend people check this out and upload their own music to the mix.

I doubt this but are you going to have some SNES music on the radio?

Jorshamo:
If we do have a podcast or something, it would be announced, most likely in this thread. It's pretty unlikely we'll have live speakers on the radio though, as it is more or less for musical purposes only. Also, as I said, you can send me a PM with links to any songs you want added on the radio. We've actually got 15 more hours worth of music on there from requests and such, so yeah .. feel free to send me whatever you want added (you can always just request it without sending me a file, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to put it up then).
Link13: Yes - all kinds of music are on it. As I already said, video game music, "real" music (read: bands) and other kinds are on it. It's a big mix of everything.

It must be hard to keep up with quality control, is there some mechanism to request playlist deletions?

If you/me/anyone else hears a song that sucks, take down the name of it and send it to me. I'll take it out immediately. That's it, really.

I run OpenBSD, so I must use a different player. I am using XMMS (X MultiMedia System) by downloading your "play.m3u" file and opening the file as a playlist.
Until now, I used XMMS only to play local files. I am somewhat surprised to learn that XMMS can also play internet radio. I tried XMMS only because I remembered that XMMS opens *.m3u files.

I'm pretty lenient on what I put on the radio. I'll probably throw it on regardless of the quality, and then just skip if people request it.
In short, yes.

The radio is hosted on Kieran's server (caffie.net), but right now, I have full control over the stream (what goes on it, what is playing, etc.)
So yes, I am hosting it for now.
(in other news, we are up to nearly 60 hours of music, and 1000+ songs. Wewtz.)

Ooh! When it's the Christmas season, can you put on Christmas songs?

The IRC channel has a "Now Playing" feature in which the current song is announced.
Being able to individually choose which songs play kind of destroys the point of the radio. The songs themselves are chosen randomly, then broadcast for others to listen to. It isn't like a list where you just have the songs you want play.

Assuming it lasts that long, sure. I'll throw on whatever people decide to upload - that includes festive songs.
