Recently I figured that I'm not the best at creating hacks with Extra content like custom blocks or sprites etc. I'm pretty much only good at vanilla hacks. Which is why I made this. A test of my vanilla hacking skills. No custom sprites, blocks, music,ExGFX,ASM,etc. Other then some minor sprite edits, it's all original GFX. So I wanted to know if you (the community) would enjoy a classic vanilla hack. Now, it's only 1 world long. However, if you guys like it, please tell me, and I will continue with world 2+. The hack is titled, "Kuribo_Shoe the adventure" and mario wears the kuribo boot when he gets big. Due to the green of the boot however, mario's pants are now green. Small sacrafice. Actually I think he looks cool, but that's just me.

And here are some screenshots.

Yes, this place is escapable, there are invisible coin blocks leading you back up.

Some people on the IRC may recall my sudden urge to make this level. \

Blocky cookie dipping FTW.

So what do you think?

I think, wow.
Looks pretty great. I might have a chance to play it tomorrow, or sometime in the near future.
Nice work, yo.

Sweet. I'm a particular fan of vanilla hacks, since it shows a person can really make great things with what they have. Especially when they know HOW to do custom things, but choose to do it this way. Maybe it's because I'M making a vanilla hack(though I do know how to insert custom stuff) to really master Lunar Magic. When people don't make vanilla hacks, they can slap together terrible level design and dress it up with custom blocks and sprites and people find it great. The very most important thing I look for in ANY game is LEVEL DESIGN, and you can really focus on THAT when making a vanilla hack. Games without good level design get extremely boring, even if they have great coding. Once master level designing and making amazing things with what I have(Map16!!!), I'll continue my chocolate hack and focus on level design and making cool things with what I have, and have custom sprites, blocks, and music as a little extra. Good work on this, I'd say you should finish it, and maybe afterwards you'll find chocolate hacking fun.

Yes, I would definitely enjoy another vanilla hack; it's good for the central, and good for me because I could have someone to compete against. So far, your level design looks great and creative, especially the milk and cookies; I never would've thought of that!

Based on the screenshots, this actually looks really nice, and as others have mentioned, the cookies and cream level is really cool, with nicely executed palettes.
The only gripe I have is the lack of a background in that forest screenshot. I think it'd look a bit better if you used the general forest BG instead. Then again, it's fine as it is if there's some layer 2 setting for the level or something.

Hrm, my only criticism is that I wouldn't think the "milk" in the cookies level would be milk at first. I'd think it'd be lava with a bad palette.
Maybe if you used water tiles instead? Though that would probably require you to remake the parts of the level where the lava was a significant obstacle.

The hack really looks nice. I also find the overworld quite interesting as well. =)

I can't play this (due to me stupidly updating my DSi firmware and sucking at keyboard controls), but I love vanilla hacks. They truly show how powerful of a program Lunar Magic is. Please do make worlds 2+, you have yourself a supporter right here. The screen shots look promising to me and by the remarks of the other users, I can't wait to play this once my usb controller comes in the mail

I've just finished the demo and I had pretty much fun playing this, even though this demo only offers a very limited amount of playtime.
A few words of advice:
- The level that you "need Yoshi for" uses bushes on layer 2, but Yoshi can't eat the berries on those bushes, which was a bit weird.
- The cookie/milk level has a spot you can get stuck in (beneath the purple throw blocks, if you pick the block far away from the vine and then fall through, you cannot jump out).
- Also at the cookie/milk level, the small tunnel the Key is in can push you through the wall and kill you. Simple solution would be to make the tunnel one block higher.
- Again the cookie/milk level, if the player spinjumps all the enemies away, he can no longer hit the turn block to creature the vine, disallowing the player to continue. I think this is possible in a few others levels too, but I only had trouble with it in the cookie level. Might wanna look into that too ;)
Good luck with this!

Wow, my opinion is based off the screenshots, the first sub-map looks incredible. Can't wait to see what the other overworlds looks like. Also the fact that Mario gets to use the Kuribo Shoe is really cool, I've never seen that in a hack before (if its been put in a hack before I most likely wouldn't know). Nice job Zildjian.

This is a good hack, but the only gripe I have is that when mario jumps at full speed, I can see his hands and feet out of his shoe. Also, when he is going up a wall, I can see his hands. Otherwise, This is a good hack, And I hope you finish it.

BUMP because I can.
Today I uploaded this demo to the site for further experimentation. I have just began high school and won't be as active as I was during the summer, so I won't constantly check to see if if got accepted or not. Still, with 25 other hacks waiting to be moderated, this will take a while anyways. So please help support this, and any other vanilla hack by downloading
"Kuribo_Shoe The adventure."
Thank you.
World 2 is half way done btw.
