"Why, hello there. I'm Demo, and I seem to have somehow ended up here while on my way to the grocery store... Has anyone seen any vegetables nearby?"

"That guy? He's one of the Charlies, the ones who rule this land. Due to an unfortunate incident involving gravity, they don't seem to like me very much."

"So there seems to be some veggies around here, after all. I'd better collect them."

"Building bridges is almost as fun as watching paint dry. I'd know, I've been doing that all the time ever since winter hit and the grass stopped growing."

"That creature is a Yoshi. Most of them are pretty friendly, but this particular one seems to have joined the ranks of the Charlies. Stupid freakin' horse.

"Nice hat. Mind giving it to me?"

"Building a fortress out of ropes and mushroom stems? Remind me to never hire those Charlies as construction workers."

"I guess this is what you would call a chocolate level?"

"Just slidin' down some hills, killin' some dudes."

"Hey! Who stole all the colours?"

"PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC"

"Hmm... To press, or not to press..."

"...you'd better work on that disguise a bit more, ghost guy. You won't get me off guard that easily."

"Brr... This is getting kind of cold. I wish I'd brought some more clothes than this dress..."

"This thing'd better not sink..."

"I smell a puzzle."

"That, as the old proverb says, was a demo."

A Super Mario Thing is a collaboration hack, organized by me and worked on by various members of the raocow.com forums. It started out as a simple "ohey let's all create something for raocow to play", but is now aspiring to the title of a counterpart to the VIP series. And that, in turn, means going all out with allowing custom stuff and general ASMwork *coughASMWCPcough*, as well as creating as many global graphics swaps as possible.

As for release date, we are aiming for the project to be finished before the end of the year. We only have four more normal levels and the final castle left to finish before the testing phase. However, the hack won't be released to the public until raocow have finished the original playthrough of it, to make sure that it will be done completely blind.
Awesome XD Defenitely gonna try this one out.

Well, it's not too late yet. The signups for the final castle just started, and you're free to sign up for a room if you want to.

Yep, this thing was insanely fun to work on.
Too bad I was still an inexperienced hacker, and had to hand the project over to YCZ.

...even though he did an awesome job with it, not going to lie.

This hack is a definite on my "must play" list.
I've been following Demo for a while now, and I want a demo so bad.
I know someone was bound to make a thread about this. I absolutely loved working on this thing!
Isn't this Raocow's "What the hell" hack? err what?? I'm confused. ]:

No. This is a collab hack, which is also another project Raocow is included in.

The topic: How? Now? RAOCOW! :D
What the Hell is a hack Raocow is making all by himself (with some help of people finding bugs etc.)

A Super Mario Thing is a collab hack most people on his forums are working on for him to LP, and he's made a few sublevels and levels for it, but doesn't know most of how it's going to be.

I also made some too :)

Well, since I now know for a fact that raocow won't be reading this thread, might as well show off some of the more interesting stuff.

Firstly, the demo counter.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vc2oaCtbrVE&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vc2oaCtbrVE&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

The first patch I've ever coded, this is a counter that counts how many times you've died. However, it also saves to SRAM, and is stored separately for each save file.

Secondly, a boss I'm coding for the endgame.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OnRug_kHq7E&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OnRug_kHq7E&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

There is a good chance that I will release this when the hack is finished (actually, this goes for most of the things I've coded for this), since the bullet patterns are completely customizable. However, the version that appears in the hack will have a few special features:

(A big thanks to Roy for helping me get the layer 3 tile upload working.)

And thirdly, a level I made some while ago.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sDlyFVFvvDY&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sDlyFVFvvDY&hl=sv_SE&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

(Anyone else associated with the project, feel free to post screenshots and/or videos here as well. I know some of you have created some pretty impressive stuff.)
Here's some sound related stuff/easter eggs.

This took 5 hours to debug.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/nqn3r4ctgyA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/nqn3r4ctgyA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

People still haven't decided whether or not they want this.
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/c2sAXFywX5w&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/c2sAXFywX5w&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It sounds like water from 1994 (aka like a bunch of white noise)
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1rOkUHbsgJA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1rOkUHbsgJA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I really like my remix of Here We Go.
