Super OMNOMNOM World, a project I've been working on for a few months, is pretty much like your generic two-level Kaizo/noob hack (filled with munchers and cutoffness), except that it contains some ASM codes too (running around in a Koopa shell isn't common in a Kaizo).
And it's made entirely in xkas. That's right, no LM/ips's/etc here. This gives me the ability to corrupt my ROM as much as I want (my batch file copies a clean rom and patches to the copy, so corruption won't stay for long (it stays until I comment it out)), and I can make as much screen jumps/etc as I want without risking LM screwing it up. All for the low price of dropping the WYSIWYG interface LM gives me.
Oh yeah, the screenshots/etc.
Slightly outdated (camera code has been changed, a random thing has been added at the end):
<embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src="http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid373.photobucket.com/albums/oo178/alcaroops/sow.flv"></embed>
(If it doesn't work, click here.)
I know that the Koopa area is pretty boring, but I'm not that good at getting ideas for stuff to make. My brothers made most of this.

This is pretty awesome. And I don't remember the last time I saw someone use wysiwyg.

Hint: WYSIWYG means What you see is what you get.
As soon as you open a ROM in LM, you see it.
...Maybe you're not using LM either?

It looks pretty neat :3
I think I'll give this one a try.

This proves its possible to make a good screwy hack!
Yep, that was fun.

Looks like I started on the first thing May 28 (assuming I'm not missing anything older), so about 5½ months. It wasn't my only project during that time, though.
And did anyone find the phrase "OVER 9000 RICKROLLS" yet?

I did... after the second game over. It's funny to see that the title screen changes after every game over.
Surprisingly, it was fun to play.

Made entirely in xkas? ...holy. Well I guess I'll let it being kaizo slide, then. XD
Pretty cool stuff.

I didn't read the Xkas part at first, and then thought "oh, Alcaro must be up to his muncher shenanigans again".
Boy, was I ever wrong.

C3 stop 9 - I remember when you first started this. I never expected that it would go anywhere, though! I wonder if it would be rejected if you submitted it... Oh, wait, don't you moderate hacks?
Do you think you could include an IPS patch? I know, it's an embarrassment for an almost-veteran hacker like myself to ask such a question, but I have never had any luck patching, as it corrupted half the time, though the patches required no freespace.

Originally posted by hack submission guidelines1. You must submit an IPS file, NOT a ROM of any kind! - ASM != IPS, but it's not ROM either.
2. Blatant level edits will not be accepted. - Many Yoshi coins and pits are at the same place in EI2 and YI1. Eaten/Yoshi's House are also similar.
3. No graphical glitches! - Filled with cutoffness and floating Munchers. Much of it is intentional.
4. Unless you intend to make your hack contain very long and very high quality levels, demos which are too short to provide any feedback on or be enjoyable will be subject to removal. - Only two levels.
5. The player should not be able to die in the title screen or intro! - I changed the ? block to a Muncher, which OMNOMNOMs Mario as soon as he gets nearby.
7a) Keep it fair, and keep the hack at a legitimate difficulty! - It's a Kaizo.
tl;dr: No, I don't think this would get anywhere.
I was considering submitting it to the hacks section (with the description "id liek thekings 2 moder8 diz" and the same screenshot 30 times), but that idea didn't get anywhere.
QuoteDo you think you could include an IPS patch?
I thought I already did that? There should be both a row of .asm's and a .ips there. main.asm should do the same thing as hax.ips.

Oh, I apologize. I guess I was having a hard time with my family while I was posting that. Dang, you would think that that post was all false (Because it was)!
I played this, and I have to say it was so tough, I will have to save it for a TAS later.
Oh, and when you said your brothers did it, you mean they designed the level, and you "wrote" it? I was really surprised when I found that the size of the ROM hadn't changed a bit; I thought the patching had failed!
Is there any chance that you may make a non-kaizo hack using this method?

Yes, that's correct. They don't know any ASM.
QuoteI was really surprised when I found that the size of the ROM hadn't changed a bit;
Yeah, I had to make a tool to find freespace for me. I thought this method was the best.

Depends on if me (or my brothers) get creative and make anything else. So I'd say "unlikely but possible".
