Looking for a game to keep you busy for a while? Trying to find a gift for someone? Want to share a hidden gem with others who may be interested? Just want to share all your favorites with everyone else? Feel free to post all the of the above here! (read: stop making new threads for listing games like this, especially if you're not going into detail about each one)

Looking for a game:
Don't forget to list the system and genre you're looking for. List all the obvious ones that you've already played (if you're looking for a Wii adventure game, you should mention if you've already played Zelda for example). You should also look through the thread for existing suggestions that you might be interested in.

Recommending a game:
Try and give information about the games you're recommending rather than just listing them. Don't be a fanboy and recommend the same game to everyone unless it actually matches the system and genre they want.

To start off with, does anyone know any good XBox 360 games that might interest a long-time Nintendo fan? I prefer adventure/rpg games to fighting/fps ones. I already have Blue Dragon, pretty great so far.

I just got Tales of Vesperia today and it's pretty awesome. I'd recommend that. I can't really say too much right now since I just got it, but I really like it so far. The characters are pretty cool, and the combat, although it takes some time to get used to, is really fun as well.

You may also want to look into some of Rare's stuff, being that they were originally with Nintendo. Kameo is a bit short, but it's an epic Zelda-like adventure. There are plenty of puzzles, but they're mainly combat based, forcing you to use or attack enemies in certain ways. For example, tossing enemies into a fan until it blows up. They never really resort to block pushing and this game is fun the whole way through.

Nuts and Bolts is pretty underrated, and the gameplay is nothing like the originals, but they did a good job at making it feel like a Banjo game and it's really fun once you get into it. If you're not a creative person, though, I'd avoid this one.
I've really never played Genesis, and I've been wanting to try some games for it. Anyone know some good games besides the Sonic series?

Cool spot is good from what I heard.

I need a masochistic puzzle game.

Yay.

Well if you want adventure/fighting, I suggest Assassin's Creed II. The story is deep on two different levels. There is lots of action and some RPG elements like upgrading armor, getting better weapons, learning new moves. Watch some trailers; if you're not impressed, you're the first.

Assassin's Creed II:
Xbox 360
PS3
PC (Coming Soon)

Another recommendation I have is Far Cry 2. It's an open world first person shooter. It takes place in Africa, and you're trying to assassinate an arms dealer fueling both factions at war. Besides, there is the most ridiculously custom map maker you will ever use on a console. Lot of adventure, a good variety of weapons, and some neat upgrades. The map maker is the best part. You can also download other peoples maps and play with them online. Again, you should watch a trailer if this strikes your attention.

Far Cry 2:
Xbox 360
PS3
PC

(Yes, I'm an Ubisoft fan.)
If you're looking for a sm64-style 3d platformer, I recommend Rocket: Robot on Wheels for the n64. It is the first game made by sucker punch, now famous for the Sly series and inFamous. Unlike Banjo and SM64 though, it's more puzzle based and has a physics engine that rivals the source engine. You play as a one-wheeled robot named rocket in a theme park. Each level also has at least one vehicle, some of which are quite unique, and they all handle quite well.

Sounds good! I'm looking for something brutal though. Something which you need a guide to figure out one peace of the sail boat. One where you will end up throwing it against a wall, loses your sanity and drives you nuts.

So something like the hichikers guide to the galaxy Text adventure.
I'm not familiar with that game, but if you want something difficult to figure out, maybe give Dwarf Fortress a try? It's a city-constructing game with ascii graphics that is absolutely insanely detailed and complicated, it features realistic weather patterns, water physics, and a randomly generated world that has a history and that builds on itself as you play, everything you did in one game will still be there in the next one.
Well I need a good flash game, if you can request those here. I like games where you play, make money, and upgrade things. Tower defenses not so much. Like a Zelda feel? An RPG preferably.
I recently acquired the ability to play roms with emulators at school. Because of this, I'm looking for good games. I will accept anything below N64, because I just prefer earlier games. (GBA games are okay, though) I'm also avoiding NES games, because I found a site that lets you play them free.
Games I have so far:
Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Super Mario Land 2
Digimon World 4. One of the best games for PS2. If you liked the other DW, you should get this game. Altough you start with one out of four Digimon, you can evolve into more by completing side-quests. The weapons are pretty cool and, you can level your Digi's up to 999! This game is a must have!

Chocobo's Dungeon is quite a good RPG for the Wii. It's quite challening too, and I haven't beaten it yet. But still, its quite nice, you should try it if you like RPGs.
And of course Twilight Princess. I don't think I need to tell you why.

That game is really hard...anyone looking for a challenge should get it xP
Here's a few underrated games that need more attention:
Meteos for DS
It looks like tetris, bu tit's really kind of like Puzzle league, only 100 times better. The characters(aliens that all look like lines and stickmen) and stuff are very cool. The gameplay is even better, and it's almost 5 years old but I still play it.

Dragon quest heroes Rocket slime for DS
In some RPG's...slimes are common enemies. In this game theyre the hero though, it's platforming but there's battles that are in tank kind of things.

Klonoa for PS/Wii remake
Everything about this game is awesome, except difficulty and length :C
Can't say that much other than read reviews.(i'd say too much)

Klonoa 2 for PS2/ If Klonoa wii remake gets enough sales they will remake this, too
It has what its prequel didn't have. My favourite game. (Can't say much, reason above)

Not a single one of those games is underrated, I guess Klonoa is a little bit, but no dragon quest game is underrated, and meteos was a hit.

Anyways, I just sort of realized the the turbografx didn't actually suck, so if anybody knows any good (non-cd) games, that would be sweet. And if anybody could find a working turbocd/pc engine cd emulator for linux (Hu-go! didn't work) I'd really appreciate it. I really want to try out rondo of blood, gate of thunder, ys book I & II (if you can't tell I try to play the best version of any multiplatform game).

Thanks Aqualakitu, I try Chocobo's Dungeon out.
And I know of Twilight Princess, I've heard it's very good. Those two are on my list.
Any one here played
System shock 2?

it's a RPG-FPS hybrid

-----info-----
For obvious reasons, the whole storyline isn’t written here. The plot of this game is something that is designed to unfold & be discovered as you play the game. As you start out, the less you know about what’s going to happen, the better your experience will be. Knowing the back-story, of course, never hurts, since this has already been semi-largely publicized. So we begin: (we owe this plot synopsis to the preview at PC Paradox)
The near destruction of Earth by SHODAN sends shockwaves throughout the world. The events on Citadel station lead to a general rebellion against the government by a mega-conglomerate. TriOptimum, the corporation that created SHODAN falls nearly into ruin. The Unified National Nominate (The UNN), a paramilitary Junta, steps in to fill the power vacuum.

Thirty five years later, Nobel Laureate Marie Delacroix, working under a grant from the dwindling resources of the skeletal TriOptimum corporation, publishes preliminary research findings on a faster than light mechanism. Hungry to get their hands on this technology, the UNN allows TriOp to develop a prototype. The unit performs successfully and work begins on the first FTL starship, the "Von Braun."

The UNN will not allow TriOp to undertake a mission, however, unless an element of the military is attached. To that end, the UNN "Rickenbacker", a heavy destroyer, is literally tethered to the Von Braun. The mission is launched in early 2114.

A few months into its historical journey, the situation is deteriorating. Tension is growing between the civilian elements of the Von Braun and their military counterparts on the Rickenbacker. Things are almost coming to a head when something remarkable happens: The ship receives a distress beacon from the surface of Canopus 5, hundreds of millions of miles outside of colonized space.

A team is sent to investigate the beacon. However, when they return, William Bedford Diego, Captain of the Rickenbacker (and son of Edward Diego) orders an entire deck of the Von Braun cleared of all personnel.

A week later, the players awake from cryogenic sleep to discover that they've been implanted with military grade cybernetic implants. The surgery has destroyed their memory of recent events…They remember neither going in for the surgery, nor what has happened since. They soon realize, however, that something terrible has happened aboard the Von Braun.. They find guidance in both the helpful voice of a surviving crewmember and the logs and emails from those who were not so lucky.

Shadows envelop the decks of the Von Braun, and strange shapes lurk in the darkness. The ships' defenses act as executioner to their former masters for the crime of humanity. And behind it all is the cold voice of a virtual nightmare thought long dead….
Cool plot, eh? Here’s what else we can tell you:

SHODAN, the same computer from System Shock 1 will have a strong presence in the game. How she survived Citadel, and what she’s up to this time around is something that you must play the game to find out. Up front, the key villain in this game appears to be "The Many" (note the classic sci-fi name), a race of worm-like creatures that form a collective sentient consciousness. This is sort of like a cross between the Zerg (StarCraft) and the Borg (Star Trek).

It seems that SHODAN, who controls all things robotic & cybernetic, and The Many, who control all things organic, are at war. When they entered the ships, they immediately cannibalized the crews into their armies of mutants & cyborgs.

There is also Xerxes, the computer aboard the Von Braun, who serves an unknown purpose. Dr. Polito is the only other human, as far as we know, who is still alive on the ships, and seems to be your only ally. She will communicate with you over a com-link, giving you vital instructions. The communications will be one-way only.

The story will unfold via emails from SHODAN, The Many, and Polito, logs from the dead crew, and flashback-like visions called "apparitions," where the player uses a piece of hardware known as a Psi-Amp to view events that have happened in the near-past in certain places.

All ‘cut-scenes’ (aside from the intro & endgame) will be rendered in the game engine.

Solitude is something the SS2 developers felt was very important to the success of SS1, so you can expect more of the same in that depertment.

System Shock 2 is not mission-based. It has an overarching storyline broken down into organic "chapters" that often overlap each other. The game will have an overarching storyline, but sub-missions will organically appear throughout the game. Some threads will block other avenues of gameplay (for instance, a key to a door that must be passed to proceed further in the game) and some threads are presented simultaneously ("repair a shuttle" and "reboot the security network") with each thread leading to its own portion of gameplay. This allows us to allow a player who is stuck in one aspect of exploration to proceed in others (an analog version of multiple mission choices). The game is made to be as non-linear as possible, with many, many different ways to solve each problem, and though there is only one ending, there are almost infinite ways of getting there.

If anyone's looking for interesting older RPGs, I suggest the following:

Valkyrie Profile (PS1, psp port)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1, psp port)
Bahamut Lagoon (SNES, translation patch available)
Star Ocean 1 (SNES, translation patch available. A remake for the ps2 I believe is available too)
Star Ocean 2 (PS1, psp port)

None of these are entirely unheard of, but if you want an older RPG with good ideas, play these.

Well, I'm not sure if this fits, but a short game similar to Zelda II called Legend of Princess has been made, and is download-able. However, it isn't an RPG.

Huh, suprised nobody awnsered your request Rorshach, I suggest Iji, it's a sidescrolling shooter, and has a wide RPG build. There are, Health points, Attack, Assimilate (Ammo and rgeneration), and many more! It even has branching weapon paths, that you can fuse together to create othe weapons, and a wide variety of replayability.
