Tip: Try not to place secret exits at the very end of levels-- the player will basically have to go through the same level twice.

Does anyone know why this is happening:

I know for sure my ROM isn't corrupted, and I also know it has nothing to do with hex editing.

What could be wrong?
Wow, strange.

Is it possible to select 2-1?
You can try, but it goes to 2-2's icon, then if you move back it takes you a place outside the map screen then to 2-3 if you enter the level.
Does 2-1 appear just fine after you beat 1-8?

This may indeed have something to do with hex editing.

Did you edit the starting coordinate data of 1-8? If so, there's a possibility you accidentally changed the fourth byte, which determines the level unlocked after finishing 1-8. Make sure that BF690 is set to 0C.

If not, the only other possibility I can think of is that your SRAM file has somehow been corrupted.

I just checked, and BF690 is set to 0C.

It seems like I'll have to start my hack again. It had quite a few incomplete levels, so it's for the best, really.
Have you tried playing through the hack from the beginning, to see if this happens again? (As Mattrizzle said, it may be the save file. Or if you loaded from a savestate, it could be that.)
