Looks really nice. All the GFX are in ONE good GFX/palette style, and that's good(I like the yellow Cave Story Critter :3), and the outlines are cool. I dislike the BG, eh. The FG looks great, along w/ enemy GFX. Different physics are always a plus for me, too :>

A few new questions:
Have you animated the water, and are you going to animate the lave in the castle? And are you rethinking the backgrounds? I've just noticed the palette's for the backgrounds is a bit too dull. Might be me though.
I do think this is a pretty awesome hack. And I'd like a few more to see it before C3 goes down.
/me thinks this hack shall have demo soon.
